Suva's largest hotel conference room is the Grand Pacific Hotel's Britannia Ballroom, at 600 m² and up to 600 theatre-style according to the hotel's own fact sheet. Beyond the hotels, the Vodafone Arena seats 5,000. Novotel Suva Lami Bay, Holiday Inn Suva, Studio 6 Apartments and Tanoa Plaza Hotel fill out the 150-to-400 delegate band.

Suva is Fiji's capital, its government and diplomatic centre, and the home of the University of the South Pacific and the regional agencies. That makes it the natural host for association, public-sector, academic and Pacific regional conferences — the events where proximity to ministries and missions matters more than proximity to a beach.

It is also the least understood conference city in Fiji, partly because published capacity data is inconsistent. This roundup gives every meeting-capable venue we can verify, with the figures as published, and flags where sources disagree rather than picking a winner.

For the national picture, see Fiji conference venues and capacity chart. For the choice between the two cities, Suva or Nadi?.

Where two figures appear, the first is from the venue's own published material and the second from the MICE Fiji directory record. Both are shown because they conflict, and we would rather you knew that than trusted one silently.

Where do the capacity figures conflict, and why does it matter?

Two venues, and in both cases the gap is large enough to change a shortlist.

Grand Pacific Hotel Suva. The hotel's own conference and banquet fact sheet gives the Britannia Ballroom as 600 m² with theatre 600, classroom 250, banquet 400 and cocktail 550. The MICE Fiji directory record for the same 600 m² room gives theatre 400, banquet 280 and cocktail 500. The area agrees; the seating does not. A 600 m² room at 600 theatre is one person per square metre, which is achievable with close-packed chairs and no staging; 400 is the figure you would expect with a stage, aisles and an operating position. Both are probably true under different conditions.

Novotel Suva Lami Bay. The hotel states seven meeting rooms with a largest venue of 1,248 m² accommodating up to 800 for conferences and 400 for banquets. The directory records a Novotel Convention Centre of 480 m² at 350 theatre, plus a separate Novotel House of 246 m². The likeliest explanation is that 1,248 m² is a combined figure across the convention centre and adjoining spaces while 480 m² is a single room, but neither source says so.

The practical response is the same in both cases: get a floor plan with the staging, screen, aisles and operating position drawn on it, and a written capacity for that layout. A capacity number without a layout is marketing.

What does Suva offer above 500 delegates?

Three options, none of them a conventional hotel ballroom.

Vodafone Arena is the only genuinely large venue. Built in 2003 for the South Pacific Games and originally called The Dome, it publishes a 5,000 seated capacity — stated as 4,000 in the grandstand and 1,000 on the floor — with two bleacher sections seating 800 each. Alongside the Main Arena it has Hall A, Hall B and an Events Lounge, and it hosts conferences, graduations, concerts and exhibitions as well as sport. It is an arena, so everything a conference needs — staging, rigging, acoustics, catering, breakouts — is brought in. Budget for a full build.

Novotel Suva Lami Bay, on its own published figures, takes 800 for a conference in the largest configuration. It is about 15 minutes' drive from central Suva, which is a trade-off: a self-contained campus with gardens, but delegates are not walking to a ministry meeting.

Multi-property. Above about 400 delegates with accommodation, Suva realistically becomes a multi-property event using the Grand Pacific Hotel, Holiday Inn, Tanoa Plaza and Studio 6 together. That is a normal way to run a Suva conference, and multi-property conferences sets out how.

Which venues suit the 100 to 300 delegate range?

This is Suva's sweet spot, and there is real choice.

Grand Pacific Hotel Suva is the landmark. Its 113 rooms sit on Victoria Parade facing the harbour, and beyond the Britannia Ballroom it has Britannia Pre-Function at 297 m² for 250 cocktail, three Britannia sub-rooms of 200 m² each at 140 theatre, the Matua Function Room at 291 m² for 200 theatre or 140 banquet, two Matua sub-rooms of 145 m², and a 69 m² Cession Room for 15. Six dedicated meeting venues in total, which is enough to run a plenary and four breakouts under one roof.

Holiday Inn Suva at 501 Victoria Parade is the central-city workhorse. Its own material describes three glass-walled meeting rooms and a poolside pavilion for up to 350 delegates; the directory records the Lali Room at 215 m² for 250 theatre, Lali Room 2 at 65 m², the Banyan Room at 150 m² for 100 theatre or 150 cocktail, a Board Lounge for 10, and a Big Bure for 30. Usefully, it publishes prices: meeting packages from FJ$101 per person with a 25-guest minimum, and venue hire from FJ$650. Those are the hotel's own published figures as at September 2026 — confirm before budgeting, and note that FJ$101 converts to roughly NZ$79 or A$64 at the Reserve Bank of Fiji indicative rates of 25 September 2026.

Studio 6 Apartments is the underrated one: 89 rooms and a 307 m² conference room taking 300 theatre, 250 classroom, 150 banquet or 300 cocktail. For a training-format event with a high classroom requirement, that classroom figure is among the best in the city.

Tanoa Plaza Hotel runs three conference rooms — one at 150 theatre and two at 45 each — which is a clean plenary-plus-two-breakouts configuration for a 150-delegate association meeting.

What about non-hotel and academic venues?

Japan-Pacific ICT Centre at the University of the South Pacific's Laucala campus has a multipurpose theatre seating 307. For academic, research and regional development conferences it is the obvious host, with the university's own facilities around it.

New Town Hall, run by Suva City Council, offers a Lower Hall. Capacity is not published, so request it in writing.

Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort is small — a 25-theatre conference room, an 80-seat restaurant and a pool area — but it is the only rainforest setting within reach of the city, which makes it a strong choice for a board retreat or an offsite day rather than a conference.

De Vos on the Park and Peninsula International Hotel cover the 50-delegate boardroom and small-banquet end.

How do delegates actually get to Suva?

This is the honest weakness. Suva is served by Nausori International Airport, about 23 kilometres and roughly 45 minutes from the city, and Nausori carries almost no international traffic — can you fly directly into Suva? covers why. Most delegates land at Nadi and then either connect on a short domestic flight or drive the Queens Road, published at between 186 and 220 kilometres depending on the source and three to three and a half hours by car.

Budget an extra transfer leg each way for every delegate, and do not schedule a session on arrival morning. Coach operators including Pacific Transport Limited, based in Suva and running the Queens Road corridor, and Central Transport Company for shuttles within the city, handle group movements daily.

What Suva does well, and what it does not

Choose Suva if your delegates need ministries, missions, regional agencies or the university; if the event is an association or public-sector conference where the capital carries weight; if you want a walkable city with real restaurants rather than a resort strip; or if your programme is indoors and the wet season worries you.

Choose elsewhere if the programme depends on beach, island or outdoor set-pieces; if arrival-day logistics have to be simple; or if you need a single hotel ballroom above about 600 delegates with the accommodation attached.

Next step: compare the numbers side by side on the Fiji capacity charts, browse the full Suva listings, and read conference catering in Fiji for what the food actually costs once you have the room. Suva caterers such as My Kai and Paradiso handle off-site functions in the city.
