Fiji can build a serious stage set, but you cannot plan one from published data. Not one Fiji venue — resort, hotel, arena or theatre — publishes a rigging point, a rigging load rating, a floor loading, a loading-dock dimension or a door height. Three properties publish ceiling heights. Everything else is a site visit.
That sounds bleak. It is not, if you know it going in. Fiji's production suppliers are used to building from a site survey rather than a technical pack, and shows of real scale happen in Fiji every year. What it means is that your production timeline needs a site visit much earlier than it would in Auckland or Sydney, and your contract needs to carry what the venue's website does not.
What ceiling heights are actually published?
Three venues, and this is the complete published list in the country.
| Venue and space | Area | Published ceiling height |
|---|---|---|
| Shangri-La Yanuca Island — Ratu Makutu Events Centre (36 × 18 m) | 648 m² | 10.4 m |
| Shangri-La Yanuca Island — Ratu Makutu I and II (18 × 18 m each) | 324 m² each | 10.4 m |
| Sheraton Fiji — Golden Ballroom | approx. 600 m² | 16.4 ft (approx. 5.0 m) |
| Shangri-La Yanuca Island — Davui Hall (22 × 12 m) | 264 m² | 4.5 m |
| The Westin — Senibua | 40.5 m² | 15.1 ft (approx. 4.6 m) |
| Sheraton Fiji — Denarau Island Convention Centre | 1,755 m² | 11.8 ft (approx. 3.6 m) |
| Sheraton Fiji — Pacific Ballroom | — | 11.5 ft (approx. 3.5 m) |
| The Westin — Senirosi Ballroom | 292.8 m² | 11.2 ft (approx. 3.4 m) |
| Shangri-La Yanuca Island — Davui Hall C | 58 m² | 2.8 m |
| The Westin — Senirosi Dua / Rua | 146.4 m² each | 8.2 ft (approx. 2.5 m) |
Read the top and the sixth row together, because that is the design decision. Shangri-La Yanuca Island's Ratu Makutu at 10.4 metres is the only genuinely tall room published in Fiji. The Denarau Island Convention Centre is nearly three times the floor area but publishes 3.6 metres — enough for a screen and a modest stage, not enough for a flown set, a tall scenic element or a raked LED wall with a truss above it.
A caution on the Marriott figures: Sheraton's venue page carries a column headed "sq.m" whose values are in fact square feet, which produces absurd areas if read literally. The heights above are converted from its L × W × H feet column, and the Denarau Island Convention Centre's true metric area of 1,755 m² comes from Marriott's own meetings page.
One property should also be checked before it is planned around: Marriott's page for The Westin currently carries a closure alert alongside a refurbishment notice with a 2023 reopening date. Confirm its trading status directly.
Which venues publish no height at all?
Most of them. Confirmed as publishing areas or capacities but no ceiling height: Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, Radisson Blu Denarau, Warwick Fiji, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, InterContinental Fiji, Novotel Nadi, Tanoa International Nadi, Tanoa Plaza Suva, Holiday Inn Suva, Vodafone Arena, FMF Gymnasium and the USP Japan-Pacific ICT Centre theatre.
Outrigger Fiji publishes capacities only — no dimensions and no areas at all. Radisson Blu publishes areas (Ballroom 180 m², Cutter and Spinnaker 90 m² each) with neither dimensions nor heights.
One useful positive: Encore's venue microsite for InterContinental Fiji publishes "11 flexible and versatile meetings rooms… completely pillar-less spaces", and InterContinental's own page publishes a motorised LCD screen at 4 m × 2.5 m and an 8000-lumen laser projector. That is the closest thing to a published technical inventory at any Fiji resort.
What about the arenas?
Suva's two large sports venues are the only rooms in Fiji that will hold a stadium-scale audience, and both publish the same warning in passing. Vodafone Arena publishes 5,000 seated — 4,000 grandstand plus 1,000 on the floor — with two 800-seat bleacher banks, on a wooden spring court floor. FMF Gymnasium publishes 1,000 to 3,000 persons with an 1,800-seat grandstand, also on a wooden spring floor.
A sprung timber court is a point-load problem. Neither venue publishes a floor loading figure, so anything with a leg — a tower, a ballast bin, a forklift, a scissor lift — needs spreader boards and a conversation with the venue before it goes near the surface. Neither publishes a roof height or a rigging capability either.
The USP Japan-Pacific ICT Centre Multipurpose Theatre is the outlier and worth knowing about: 307 fixed folding seats plus four accessible spaces, theatrical velour curtains, theatrical lighting with a control room and presets — and, unusually for Fiji, published hire rates effective 1 January 2026: the hall at FJD $1,000 to $1,600 per hour, air conditioning at $300 to $500 per hour and full stage lighting at $300 to $400 per hour. It publishes no stage dimensions or rigging data.
Who actually builds a set in Fiji?
Encore Event Technologies Fiji is the largest in-country name, based at Denarau Business Park, publishing in-house venue partnerships with InterContinental Fiji, Grand Pacific Hotel, Sofitel Fiji, Crowne Plaza Nadi Bay and TRIBE Na Tomba. Its published capability is prose — staging to show calling, design and fabrication, microphones through to 3D projection and digital broadcast — with no equipment list, truss specification or load data.
RK Event Hire Fiji publishes the broadest hire list we found in Fiji: staging, marquees in various sizes, LED dance floor, disco and festoon lighting, sound systems, LED displays, flooring and fan cooling. No prices, no stage deck sizes, no load ratings.
Formscaff Fiji publishes scaffolding, falsework and propping alongside tent and marquee manufacture and hire — the nearest thing Fiji has to a structural contractor who also does events. Tents & Awnings Ltd publishes marquees, tents and tensioned membrane structures along with a downloadable catalogue and hire price list, and states it will design, analyse, fabricate, install and maintain — but publishes no spans, wind ratings or anchoring data on its site pages. Party & Events Fiji publishes furniture, catering equipment, linen and styling rather than staging or truss.
Two names to check before you brief them: Microhire publishes five warehouses across the Australia-Pacific region but no Fiji location, and stagetechfiji.com did not resolve at all during this research. SPR Audio Visual Fiji has no website beyond a social page.
The honest summary: no Fiji supplier publishes an equipment inventory, a truss stock list, a chain-hoist inventory, a stage deck load rating or a rigging plot. Zero. Ask for a spec sheet under NDA if you need one; it exists privately, it is simply not public.
How do you get your own equipment in?
Fiji's published route is the privileged goods procedure under Part XII of the Customs Regulations 1986, hosted on the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service site. Privileged goods expressly include "goods for display or use at exhibitions, fairs, meetings or similar events" and "goods which are imported solely for use in connection with some particular project or occasion".
The terms that matter: goods must be exported within three months from release from customs control, or within a further period not exceeding twelve months from the date of importation at the Comptroller's discretion. The proper officer may require security for the duty, or may require the duty to be deposited, refundable on re-export in the same condition, fair wear and tear excepted. VAT is 12.5% following the reduction from 15% on 1 August 2025.
On ATA Carnets: no FRCS page, notice or guide stating that Fiji honours ATA Carnets could be located. Do not assume one. Our piece on bringing event equipment into Fiji covers the paperwork in more depth, and the practical advice from the published guidance is consistent — contact FRCS or a Fiji customs agent before the goods arrive, not after.
What are the safety obligations?
Fiji's Health and Safety at Work Act 1996 imposes general duties at section 9 — every employer must ensure the health and safety of all workers, including plant and systems of work that are safe, a workplace kept safe with safe access and egress, and necessary information, instruction, training and supervision. Section 11 extends duties to a person in control of a workplace who provides plant for use by people who are not their own workers, which is the provision that reaches visiting crew and contractors.
What does not exist in published form is any Fiji-specific working-at-height, fall-arrest, scaffolding-ticket or rigging-competency regulation or code of practice. If your organisation requires a rigger to hold a ticket, that requirement has to come from your contract, because Fiji does not publish one.
And if the show is on an island?
Then the boat is the design constraint. South Sea Cruises publishes the sentence every island production should be built around: "most resorts do not have jetty access, so transfers from the vessel to land are made in smaller tenders." That means beach landing. Every case, every truss stick, every generator has to be liftable into a small boat and carried up sand.
For genuine tonnage, Fiji has a published barge option: a Fiji vessel serving Mamanuca and Yasawa resorts with a published capacity of 85 metric tonnes, carrying general cargo on scheduled delivery days. On the passenger ferries, Malolo Cat publishes excess baggage at F$2.00 per kilogram over 25kg and board freight from F$20 to F$100, and references a transport barge service without publishing freight rates. Mamanuca Express and SeaFiji publish passenger and charter services only, with no freight product.
The verdict
If your show needs height, there is one room in Fiji: Shangri-La Yanuca Island's Ratu Makutu at 10.4 metres. If it needs floor area, the Denarau Island Convention Centre at 1,755 square metres is the largest, at 3.6 metres to the ceiling. If it needs a theatre, the USP Japan-Pacific ICT Centre is the only purpose-built one with published lighting and rates.
For everything else, budget for an early site visit with your production supplier, get the rigging assessment in writing before you design, and treat the absence of published data as a scheduling cost rather than a quality signal.
