Fiji's largest single conference room is the Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort — 1,755 square metres, published at 1,500 theatre. Below that, five properties sit in the 600-700 theatre band. Above 1,500 delegates in one room, Fiji needs a marquee, a split plenary, or another destination.
What is the full Fiji conference venue capacity chart?
One row per property, largest published space, sorted by theatre descending. Blank means not published, not zero. Conflicting figures are split by a slash; "Directory" is MICE Fiji's own data.

Crowne Plaza's Grand Ballroom is 925 m² with no published capacity — the second-largest function room in Fiji by floor area, yet no seating figure for it exists anywhere. Ask the property directly.
Fiji's biggest resorts do not have its biggest meeting rooms. The Westin and Hilton Fiji both lean on outdoor space for plenary, which is why Fiji group accommodation separates beds from plenary.
Outdoor space holds the biggest numbers. Hilton's Koro Lawn is published at 1,500 banquet, Sheraton's Pro-Shop Lawn at 1,500 reception, Shangri-La's Rara at 1,000 — but that is grass: marquee, floor, power, wet-weather plan.
Which Fiji venues can genuinely take my delegate number?
| Delegates | Venues that genuinely work | The caveat |
|---|---|---|
| 20 | Any boardroom: Westin Senibua, Novotel Suva Bose Vata, Holiday Inn Big Bure, Yatu Lau | A room-hire decision, not a venue decision. Pick for beds and food. |
| 50 | Westin Senijale (60), De Vos (50), Cathay (60), Belo Vula (60), Shangri-La Davui Hall C (50) | Fifty theatre is comfortable; fifty cabaret needs a bigger room. |
| 100 | Tokatoka Talei (100), DoubleTree (100), Tanoa Skylodge A (120), Radisson Blu (120), Outrigger Reef 1+2 (160) | The rig starts eating floor. Ask what it seats with a screen and lectern in. |
| 200 | Westin Senirosi (200), Tanoa Tagimoucia (200), Southern Cross Gordons (200), Hilton Vision (220), Holiday Inn Lali (250), First Landing (250) | The most competitive band, and where sites and listings diverge most. |
| 300 | Novotel Suva Convention Centre (350), Crowne Plaza Baravi 1 (370), Shangri-La Davui Hall (400), Warwick CCCC (400) | A produced 300-delegate plenary wants 400+ published theatre. |
| 500 | Sofitel Grand Ballroom (700), Sheraton Golden Ballroom (600), GPH Britannia (600), InterContinental Natadola (600), Shangri-La Ratu Makutu (650) | The last band with real choice. Above it, a shortlist of one. |
| 800+ | Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji (1,500 theatre) — then marquee or split plenary only | Check its availability before anything else. |
What do theatre, banquet, cabaret and classroom actually mean?
Every number above is a maximum for an empty room; layout decides how many actually fit.
| Setup | What it is | What it costs in floor | When to use it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theatre | Chairs in rows, no tables | Baseline: 0.8-1.0 m² per person before aisles | Plenary, keynotes, AGMs under 90 minutes |
| Classroom | Trestle rows facing front | About double theatre; lose 45-55% of the figure | Training, workshops, anything with laptops |
| Cabaret | Rounds, front arc left empty | 55-65% of banquet, ~40% of theatre | Conferences with table discussion; the AU/NZ default |
| Banquet | Full rounds of 8-10 | Roughly 1.4-1.8 m² per person | Gala dinners and awards nights |
| U-shape | Tables around the perimeter | Very expensive — a 200 m² room may seat 40-50 | Boards and ministerials |
| Boardroom | One table | The most expensive layout per head | Under 20, full stop |
| Cocktail | Standing, some high tables | Cheapest per head, 0.6-0.8 m² | Welcomes, receptions, exhibition floors |
Why does "1,200 theatre" often mean about 700 in practice?
Because the figure assumes nothing in the room but chairs. An 8m × 4m stage with steps and lectern takes 40-50 m² plus front clearance; side screens create dead zones down each wall; fire egress needs two aisles and usually a cross-aisle; a streamed event needs a camera riser and front-of-house another.
So a 1,200-theatre ballroom typically seats 650-800 delegates with usable sightlines. Our rule: multiply published theatre by 0.6 for a produced plenary, 0.45 for cabaret — then check it against what AV and production Fiji has in country, because the local rig changes the answer.
What about ceiling height and pillars?
Ceiling height decides whether you can fly a screen or hang truss, and Fiji's heights vary enormously. Shangri-La's Ratu Makutu Events Centre publishes 10.4 m; Sofitel's Grand Ballroom about 6.0 m, Marriott Momi Bay's Grand Salon 5.9 m, Sheraton's Golden Ballroom 5.0 m — all fine for a full rig.
Then the drop: the Denarau Island Convention Centre at about 3.6 m, InterContinental's Natadola Ballroom 3.5 m, Grand Pacific Hotel's Britannia Ballroom about 3.0 m. Six hundred theatre in 600 m² at three metres is one person per square metre in a room you cannot fly anything in — a paper maximum.
Pillars are rarely published. Sofitel markets its Grand Ballroom as pillarless; InterContinental describes Natadola the same way. Everywhere else, ask for a floor plan with columns marked — one column in the wrong place removes sixty seats.
Where do the published numbers actually disagree?
Constantly. This is the table we would want as planner.
| Venue / figure | Figure A | Figure B | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sheraton — DICC theatre / banquet | 1,500 / 1,000 (Marriott) | 1,700 / 1,150 (Cvent) | Marriott: it states 1,755 m² for 1,500 guests; Cvent's higher figures have no supporting area. |
| Sheraton — all room areas | "1,614.6 sq m" and "18,890.8 sq m" on the Marriott venues page | 1,614.6 sq ft and 18,890.7 sq ft (Cvent) | Cvent. Marriott's venues page prints square-foot values under a square-metre heading, so every area there is 10× too large. Its meetings page gives DICC as 1,755 m². |
| Sofitel — Grand Ballroom banquet | 550 (Sofitel) and 640 (Accor) | 450 (Cvent) | A three-way split. Plan on 550, the property's own site; get 640 in writing if needed. |
| Sofitel — Grand Ballroom cocktail | 800 (Sofitel and Accor) | 360 reception (Cvent) | 800. Two operator channels agree; Cvent's 360 looks like a partitioned section. |
| Sofitel — Walu Room theatre | 60 (Sofitel) | 50 (Cvent) | Minor; plan on 50. |
| Warwick — Talanoa Hall | 510 m², 400 theatre, 500 cocktail (Warwick) | 679 m², 600 theatre, 450 banquet, 650 reception (Cvent) | They disagree on room size, not just seating — 169 m² apart. Use Warwick's figures. |
| Warwick — Coral Coast Conference Centre | 312 m², 200 banquet, 400 cocktail (Warwick) | 293 m², 400 theatre, 200 banquet, 650 reception (Cvent) | Banquet agrees at 200; cocktail is 400 vs 650. Use 400; the theatre figure exists only on Cvent. |
| Shangri-La — "Pavilion" | Not listed on Shangri-La's event spaces page | 810 m², 850 theatre, 650 banquet (Cvent) | Do not plan on it. An 850-theatre room would be Fiji's second largest, and the operator lists none. |
| Shangri-La — Davui Hall A | 132 m², reception 75, theatre 180, classroom 180 (Shangri-La) | — | Inconsistent within one page: 132 m² cannot hold 180 classroom. Treat it as an error. |
| Hilton Fiji — outdoor spaces | Cvent lists a "3,278 ft" ceiling for five outdoor spaces, and total space of 2,626 sq ft against a largest room of 71,961 sq ft | Hilton gives the same areas in m² | Hilton. Cvent's metadata is corrupted; the capacities match. |
| Plantation Island | "Conferences of 200 people" (Plantation Island) | Cvent: a "Convention Centre" of 8,611 sq ft, total space 800 sq ft, standing capacity 30 | The resort's "up to 200". The Cvent record contradicts itself. |
| Mana Island Resort | "Large functions up to 150" (Mana) | One meeting room, 120 people (trade listing) | 150 standing, 120 seated. No room-by-room chart published. |
| "Largest in Fiji" claims | Shangri-La: "Fiji's largest MICE facility". Marriott's venues page: "largest convention space in the South Pacific" | Marriott's meetings page: "largest fully air-conditioned convention center in Nadi" | On published square metres, DICC at 1,755 m² is the largest enclosed function space we can verify in Fiji. Shangri-La's largest enclosed room is 648 m²; its 1,305 m² Rara is open ground. |
The rule that falls out: where a hotel's own site and a trade listing disagree, the hotel is usually right about the room and the listing right about the units. Trade databases store square feet; hotel pages sometimes relabel them as square metres.
Where is Fiji's practical ceiling, and what if my group is bigger?
The largest plenary space we can verify from published data is the Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji. Apply the 0.6 rule to its published theatre figure and that is a 900-1,000 delegate produced conference, or about 1,200 for a light-touch AGM.
Second tier, all 576-800 m² and 600-700 theatre: Sofitel, Shangri-La Yanuca, Grand Pacific, InterContinental Natadola, Sheraton's Golden Ballroom. Realistic plenary: 350-420.
Bigger than that, three moves:
- Split plenary. One room live, one on relay — workable on Denarau Island across the Sheraton and Westin precinct, and at Crowne Plaza in Nadi with three matched Event Centre rooms. It costs a second rig and a lot of energy.
- Marquee. The outdoor numbers are real. Budget flooring, generators, air handling and wet-weather cover — see Fiji event infrastructure.
- A different destination. If 2,000 delegates must sit facing one screen, Fiji is not it. Say so early.
Which venue should you shortlist?
- Under 200: almost everything in the chart works, so choose for bedrooms and food. Suva for government proximity, Nadi for airport turnaround, Denarau Island for a walkable precinct, the Coral Coast for resort feel.
- 200-400: Novotel Suva, Crowne Plaza Baravi, Shangri-La Davui Hall, Warwick Coral Coast Conference Centre — get the theatre figure in writing; this band has the most source disagreement.
- 400-700: Sofitel, Sheraton Golden Ballroom, Shangri-La Ratu Makutu, InterContinental Natadola, Grand Pacific. Choose on ceiling height and pillars, not the theatre number.
- 700+: Denarau Island Convention Centre, or a marquee. No third option.
Cross-check the shortlist against what a Fiji conference costs, the conference hotels comparison and when to hold it — a 600-person room in February is a different proposition to July. Still deciding on Fiji? Start with 12 reasons and Fiji conference sectors.
What is the next step?
Take your delegate number, multiply by 1.6 for cabaret rounds, and use that as your minimum published theatre figure. Run it through the MICE Fiji capacity search, which filters every property here by layout and headcount, then browse all venues.
If a venue quotes a capacity that does not match this page, tell us. And confirm any figure in writing before you contract.
