Fiji's single biggest addition of event space in a decade opened on 1 March 2025: the Crown Convention Centre at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay. What nobody can tell you with confidence is how big it is. Four published figures are in circulation, two of them from the operator's own websites, and they do not reconcile.

What new event space has actually opened in Fiji?

The Crown Convention Centre, Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay. Opened 1 March 2025 on the beachfront at Wailoaloa, it is the country's newest purpose-built conference facility. General manager Sudhir Yadav said the centre "sets a new benchmark for MICE venues in the Pacific", and then Acting Prime Minister Filimoni Vosarogo called the investment "a clear vote of confidence in Fiji's economy and tourism future".

The published capacities are where it falls apart.

Those are not rounding differences. The 493 and 925 figures differ by a factor of nearly two, the 16,576 figure by a factor of eighteen, and the asterisk after "1,000+ guest events" has no matching footnote. The resort's own capacity chart also labels its area column "Sq. Ft." while carrying the numbers its website publishes as square metres, and prints "00 x 00" placeholder dimensions for five of its nine rooms.

The arithmetic offers one clue without settling anything: 37.6 × 24.3 = 913.7, close to 925, which is consistent with the figures being square metres. Three event meeting rooms at 305 each total 915, also close to 925. And 332 + 161 = 493, which is exactly the Baravi Ballroom as the sum of Baravi 1 and 2 — suggesting the 493 figure may have been mis-copied onto the Convention Centre. That is inference, not a published statement.

If you are costing a Fiji conference against this room, ask the resort to confirm the area and the theatre capacity in writing, and get it from the groups team rather than the website. Which other Fiji properties are adding event space?

Only one of the confirmed new builds is reported to include conference facilities, and it is the smallest.

All three Nadi and Denarau projects sit under Yavu Collective, backed by BSP Life and Fiji Airways and managed by Accor, which already runs Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa on Denarau. The group has said the three hotels add 370 rooms and over 600 jobs within nine months, with five resorts across Viti Levu by 2027.

That is the real story in this quarter's numbers: Fiji is adding rooms considerably faster than it is adding event space. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka put the national pipeline at 16 hotel projects under construction adding more than 2,200 rooms, against a national target of 1.25 million visitors and $4 billion in tourism earnings by 2027. Of the four new builds above, 410 rooms arrive with 200 delegates' worth of meeting space between them.

What refurbishments affect existing conference facilities?

The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa is the one to watch. Finance Minister Esrom Immanuel said upgrade works were expected to finish in March 2026 with a soft opening then and a full opening in June. Note that published room counts disagree — 255 guestrooms in the 2022 refurbishment announcement, 282 in a Ministry of Finance account — and that the resort's event listing still shows modest numbers (Senirosi Ballroom at 200 theatre or reception, total meeting space 401 sqm) that may predate reopening. Treat anything on The Westin Denarau event pages as pre-refurbishment until confirmed.

Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa, Denarau completed a US$50 million, three-year programme, its first full renovation since opening in 2005. Its own 2026 conference kit gives the Grand Ballroom as 800 sqm, 758 theatre, 550 banquet, 360 cabaret, with 6 m ceilings in the ballrooms, alongside Walu rooms and an executive boardroom. The 2022 announcement's claim of the "second-largest conference space in Fiji" and "more than 8,500 sq ft of total meeting space" appears on neither of the resort's current pages, and the 8,500 sq ft figure cannot be squared with an 800 sqm ballroom.

Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa announced upgrades in September 2026 — a new lobby, guest rooms, restaurants and villas — through Vision Group board chairman Navin Patel. No conference or event facilities were mentioned, and no investment value or timeline was given. Hilton Fiji is also worth a capacity check: its own events page states total event space of 385 sqm while listing an individual space of 6,685 sqm, and "3 Meeting Rooms" against eight listed.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa at Natadola put a quarter-million-dollar upgrade through its audio-visual services, delivered by in-house provider Encore — 4K projectors, 75-inch screens, rewired event spaces, 24 ceiling speakers, a Video over IP system and an air filtration upgrade to the pillarless ballroom. No new capacity figures came with it; the ballroom still seats up to 600.

Beachcomber Island is under new ownership and being upgraded "into a four-star destination", per Gavoka. No room count, investment value or event space has been confirmed.

Is Fiji building a national convention centre?

No announcement exists. We searched Fiji government, Investment Fiji and Ministry of Tourism sources and found nothing proposing a national or state-built convention centre. Every convention-centre announcement on the record is private-sector.

The closest thing to publicly funded large-event capacity remains Vodafone Arena in Suva, redeveloped for $16.8 million and reopened in 2019 with 8,000 arena seats and extended event halls accommodating up to 3,000 people, a new roof, floors, sound system, lighting and ventilation.

What should a planner take from this quarter?

Three things.

Fiji's published venue capacities are not reliable. Of thirteen major event venues checked against their operators' own websites, nine contradict themselves or another page on the same site. Sheraton Fiji describes the Denarau Island Convention Centre at a maximum of 1,600 in its text and 1,700 theatre in its chart, and gives total event space as both 3,551 sqm and "25,000 square feet". Grand Pacific Hotel Suva publishes a landing-page total of 2,361 m² that cannot be reconciled with its own fact sheet, and calls its ballroom "Britannia" on one page and "Grand Britannia" on another. Holiday Inn Suva lists its Banyan Room at both 150 and 100 people on the same page.

Get the number from the venue, in writing, for your set-up. A theatre figure is not a banquet figure, a chart total is not the sum of bookable rooms, and a cocktail capacity on a lawn is weather-dependent.

Watch the TRIBE Na Tomba opening. A 200-delegate facility on Denarau in Q4 2026 is genuinely useful new mid-size capacity in the busiest resort precinct in the country — and at present it is the only new conference space in the national pipeline.
