Fiji will host a conference dinner for 60 almost anywhere, for 150 in about a dozen places, and for 400-plus in very few. The honest picture is that only three venues in the country publish a seated-dinner figure at or above 400, and almost none publish a per-head price. Here is what is actually on the record.
Everything below comes from the venue's own website or its operator's published information kit. Where a venue publishes nothing, that is stated rather than filled in. This matters more in Fiji than in most destinations, because the gap between a venue's marketing language and its published numbers is unusually wide.
Which Fiji venues publish a dinner capacity at all?
| Venue | Location | Published dinner capacity | What money is published |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grand Pacific Hotel, Britannia Ballroom | Suva | Banquet 400, cocktail 550, theatre 600 | Nothing |
| Malamala Beach Club (island charter) | Off Denarau | Up to 350 (its MICE page says up to 400 — see below) | FJ$30,000 minimum F&B for up to 8 hours |
| South Sea Island | Off Denarau | Total island capacity 230 | Quote on request |
| Captain Cook Cruises — Tivua Island | Off Denarau | 200 on the island, 100 per vessel | Not published |
| Grand Pacific Hotel, Matua Function Room | Suva | Banquet 140, cocktail 200 | Nothing |
| Captain Cook Cruises — Reef Endeavour | Ex Denarau | 130 passengers | Not published |
| Grand Pacific Hotel, Britannia 1/2/3 | Suva | Banquet 70, cocktail 100 each | Nothing |
| Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay | Nadi | "Up to 900 delegates", "1,000+ guest events" — no room-by-room banquet figure | Nothing |
The Grand Pacific Hotel is the most usefully documented offsite venue in the country. It publishes a full chart: six venues totalling 2,361 square metres, with the Britannia Ballroom at 600 square metres seating 400 for dinner and 550 for cocktails, a 297-square-metre pre-function space at 250 cocktail, and the Matua Function Room at 291 square metres. It publishes no capacities for its lawn or outdoor spaces, which is the thing people actually want from a Suva waterfront property — so if the lawn is your plan, get it in writing.
What does an island buyout in Fiji actually involve?
Two operators publish the commercial structure, and they are the two to work with if you need certainty.
Malamala Beach Club publishes an exclusive island charter for up to 350 guests, with larger groups considered case by case. There is no venue hire fee; instead there is a minimum food and beverage spend of FJ$30,000 for up to eight hours. Groups under 150 people pay an additional exclusive charter fee of FJ$10,000, on top of transfers and landing fees. Note one thing before you quote it: Malamala's groups and events page says up to 350 while its meetings, incentives and events page says up to 400. The two official pages disagree, so confirm the number for your date.
South Sea Cruises publishes a total capacity of 230 guests for South Sea Island, and publishes the threshold that matters: groups of 100 or more are required to book exclusive use, with the exclusive-use base rate quoted at 120 passengers. A private dinner function on the island is offered by request. Rates are quote-only and valid 30 days.
The pattern is clear. In Fiji, island exclusivity is sold as a minimum spend or a mandatory buyout threshold rather than a room-hire fee — which is good news for a group that eats and drinks, and expensive for a group of 80 that wants an island to itself and a light supper.
What about a dinner on the water?
Captain Cook Cruises Fiji is the operator with published numbers, and the numbers cap lower than most planners expect. The published figure is 100 people per vessel for Tivua Island day cruises and sunset dinner cruises, with 200 guests on the island itself. Reef Endeavour carries 130 passengers. Spirit of the Pacific takes 2 to 100 and is available for private charter. The sunset dinner cruise is published from A$133 per adult for three hours from Denarau Marina, including a welcome drink, buffet dinner, cultural entertainment and transfers from selected hotels.
So a 150-delegate dinner cruise does not exist as a single-vessel product on published capacities. It is two boats, or it is the island rather than the vessel. Build it that way from the start rather than discovering it at contracting.
Which venues take 60 comfortably but publish nothing?
This is the largest group, and the most frustrating.
Cloud 9, the floating platform on the Ro Ro reef, publishes dedicated private functions and groups pages offering full venue hire, half- and full-day packages and an "inclusive spend" — but publishes no guest number and no minimum spend figure. Seventh Heaven publishes company function enquiry buttons and, unusually, its landing fees (FJ$50 per person for outer-island resort boats, FJ$100 for mainland commercial operators, FJ$50 for private boats up to ten guests) but no capacity and no package price; the Sofitel publishes a packaged day trip there at FJ$179 adult and FJ$99 child. Cardo's Steakhouse at Port Denarau publishes an a la carte menu with FJD prices and a weddings and events enquiry page, but describes group capacity only as "small, medium or large". Vasaqa in Nadi publishes corporate catering and a Chef's Table private experience, with no capacity or price. VOU Hub publishes full venue hire and firm per-head show prices (FJ$169 adult dinner and show) but no venue capacity. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant publishes entry at FJ$35 including VAT and hosts parties and corporate events, with no capacity published.
There is also a group of well-known names with no official website at all: Nadina Authentic Fijian Restaurant on Denarau, Sails @ Denarau, and Tiko's Floating Restaurant in Suva. All three are regularly recommended for group dinners and none can be verified from a primary source. Use them by all means — but verify capacity directly, and do not put an unverified number in a client proposal.
Can you do 400 outdoors?
On published figures, the biggest outdoor banquet numbers in Fiji are resort lawns rather than independent venues. Hilton Fiji publishes Koro Lawn at 3,989 square metres with a banquet capacity of 1,500 and a reception capacity of 2,000. Sheraton Fiji publishes its Pro-Shop Lawn at 1,500 reception and 800 banquet, Sandy Point at 800 reception, and the 15th hole of the golf course at 700 reception and 500 banquet.
Treat those as area-derived maximums, not operational ones. A 500-cover dinner on a golf hole is a generator, a kitchen tent, a lighting rig and a wet-weather decision, and none of those venues publishes rigging points, floor loading or a wet-weather policy. Our piece on wet-weather contingency planning sets out how to structure that call, and banquet kitchen capacity covers the constraint that actually limits large outdoor covers in Fiji.
Is a per-head price published anywhere?
Once. Shangri-La Yanuca Island publishes its Sacred Flame Show and Lovo Dinner at FJD 151 per adult and FJD 76 per child under 16, on Mondays and Fridays at 6pm at Marau Village. That is the only fixed per-person dinner price found on any Fiji venue site during this research.
Everything else is quote on request. That is not unusual for group F&B anywhere, but it does mean a Fiji offsite budget is built from your DMC's quotes rather than from anything you can check — which is exactly why briefing a DMC so the quotes are comparable is worth doing properly.
The decision, in one line each
Sixty people: Cardo's, Vasaqa, VOU Hub or a resort restaurant buyout. Everything at this size works; pick on food and on how far you want to drive.
One hundred and fifty: Malamala Beach Club is the standout, because at 150 or above you avoid the FJ$10,000 charter fee and the minimum spend becomes achievable. South Sea Island and the Grand Pacific's Matua room are the alternatives.
Three to four hundred: Grand Pacific Hotel's Britannia Ballroom if you are in Suva, Malamala if you are in the west and want the island, Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay if you need mainland scale — but get its banquet number in writing, because it publishes delegate capacity rather than covers.
