Almost everything IN the Mamanucas starts at Port Denarau and is sold as a day trip with transfers included. Published "from" fares currently run FJD 149 to FJD 285, the standard crossing to the nearest islands is about 30 minutes, and the three things worth building a day around are a floating day club, a sailing cruise, and the outer reef.

What is there actually to do IN the Mamanucas?

The Mamanucas are a cluster of small islands and sand cays west of Nadi, close enough that most of them are a day trip rather than a stay. Unlike the Yasawas, you do not need to commit a travel day each way.

The inventory sorts into five categories: floating day clubs, island day trips, sailing, diving and snorkelling, and surfing. There is no sixth category. There are no towns, no markets and no standalone restaurants — everything belongs to a resort, a day club, or a boat.

Which day trips can you book, and what do they cost?

These are the published "from" fares and inclusions for day trips departing Port Denarau. Prices are in FJD as published in October 2026 and will move; treat them as the floor rather than the quote.

Two useful mechanics. Coach transfers between Port Denarau and most hotels in Nadi, Wailoaloa and ON Denarau Island are complimentary when pre-booked, so the fare above is usually the whole cost of getting there and back. And the resort transfer catamarans carry air-conditioned lounges, outdoor decks and licensed bars — the crossing is part of the day rather than a chore.

Are the floating day clubs worth it?

They are the Mamanucas' signature experience and there are three, each with a different character.

Malamala Beach Club is the most structured of the three: an actual island beach club with a jetty, roughly 30 minutes out from Port Denarau. The daily vessel leaves Port Denarau at 9:30am and 12:00pm for Denarau guests and 10:00am for guests coming from ON the Coral Coast, returning at 4:45pm and 6:00pm. That timetable is the single most useful planning fact in this article — it tells you exactly how long your day is.

Cloud 9 is a two-level floating platform with a stocked cocktail bar, an Italian wood-fired pizzeria, a sun deck of day beds, surround sound, and a jump off the top level into open water. It books international chill-house DJs on published dates, and it is family-run and deliberately unpretentious. It does not publish capacity, pricing or opening hours, so check before you plan a group around it.

Seventh Heaven splits its week deliberately: chill-out days on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, party days on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On board there is an international bar and restaurant, wood-fired pizza, massages, freshwater showers and the "Leap of Faith" jump. Pick your day to match your group — a corporate incentive group on a Saturday is a different afternoon from the same group on a Wednesday.

Can you visit the island from Cast Away?

Yes. Monuriki, IN the Mamanucas, is where the 2000 film Cast Away was mainly shot, and it has become a destination in its own right with guided tours of the filming locations. It is uninhabited, so it is a landing-and-walk visit rather than a facility, and it is reached as part of a cruise or a chartered boat rather than on a scheduled service.

If you want it, say so when you book. It is not on every Mamanuca itinerary.

What is the diving like?

Good, close and well serviced. Subsurface Fiji runs two guided trips daily from Musket Cove Island Resort & Marina — a morning two-tank dive and an afternoon single dive — with night dives available on request for a minimum of two divers. The operator describes over 30 dive sites IN the Mamanucas, naming the outer Malolo Barrier Reef in particular.

The course range is unusually complete for a small island operation: PADI Bubble Maker, Discover Scuba, Open Water, Advanced Open Water and Rescue, plus freediving and mermaiding, with Junior Open Water available from age 10. Prices are not published — ask directly.

For snorkelling without a certification, most of the day trips above include gear, and Purple Turtle Fiji also operates IN the Mamanucas.

What about surfing?

The Mamanucas' outer reef carries Fiji's best-known surf, and it is reef-break surfing over coral rather than beach break — experienced surfers only, and access arrangements differ by break and by season. Tavarua Island Resort is the directory's surf-dedicated property IN the Mamanucas.

We are not going to publish break-by-break access rules that change. Confirm current arrangements with the resort or a licensed surf operator before you build a trip around a specific wave.

Which resorts are worth a day visit on their own?

Several Mamanuca resorts accept day visitors, which turns a boat ride into a pool, a beach and a lunch. Plantation Island Resort and Mana Island Resort & Spa are the two largest and the most used to visitors; Musket Cove has the marina, which gives it a working-harbour feel the others do not — Dick's Place Bar & Bistro overlooking the bay, The Trader Cafe at the marina edge, and the Island Bar where visiting yacht crews gather.

Day-visitor access is not guaranteed and is not published consistently. Call the resort, not a booking site.

How do you get around between islands?

Not easily, and this is the honest limitation of the Mamanucas. There is no island-hopping bus. You are choosing between the scheduled catamaran, which runs a resort circuit, and a charter.

Mamanuca Express and SeaFiji both operate transfer services from Denarau, and Manu Charters and Coral Cats Sailing handle private charter work. For a wedding party or an incentive group moving between two islands in one day, a charter is usually the only way the timings work.

A ranked plan, if you only have one day

  1. If you want the best single day: Malamala Beach Club, on the 9:30am departure, back at 6:00pm. Transfers included, structured, and the timetable is published.
  2. If you want to be on the water: the Sabre full-day sail, which trades the day club for a sand cay and open sailing.
  3. If you have children under ten: South Sea Island, where the semi-submersible coral viewer does the work that snorkelling cannot do for small kids.
  4. If you dive: stay a night at Musket Cove and do the morning two-tank. A day trip cannot fit two dives and a crossing.
  5. If you want the party: Seventh Heaven or Cloud 9, on a day that matches your group rather than whichever day you happen to be free.

The verdict

The Mamanucas are Fiji's easiest island experience and its least spontaneous. Everything is bookable, almost everything is excellent, and nothing happens without a boat and a timetable. Build one day club or cruise into the middle of a Nadi or Denarau stay and you get the whole archipelago for the price of a single fare.

What the Mamanucas will not give you is a wander. If that is what you want, read the Mamanucas versus the Yasawas before you book.
