Denarau Island has four properties that publish a full meeting inventory, one that publishes ballroom capacities only, and two that are not conference venues at all despite appearing on island lists. The largest published space is the Denarau Island Convention Centre at 1,755 square metres for up to 1,500 guests. Below that, the island gets small quickly.
This guide uses only what each property publishes on its own site, with third-party directory figures named as such where they are the only source. Where two official sources disagree — and on Denarau they frequently do — both figures are given.
What does each property actually publish?
| Property | Event rooms | Total event space | Largest space and published capacities | Guest rooms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort | 10 | 3,551 m² | Denarau Island Convention Centre, 1,755 m² — theatre 1,500, banquet 1,000, reception 1,600, classroom 1,100 | 300 (third-party) |
| Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa | 4 published on own site; 8 per Accor Events; 11 per a third-party directory | Not published by Sofitel or Accor | Grand Ballroom — banquet 550 (own site) / 640 (Accor Events) / 450 (third-party); cocktail 800 | 296 (Accor Events) |
| Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island | 4 | 450 m² | Ballroom, 180 m² — theatre 120, banquet 100 | 270 (third-party) |
| The Westin | 3 | 401 m² | Senirosi Ballroom, 292.8 m² — theatre 200, banquet 150, reception 200, classroom 140 | 246 (third-party) |
| Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa | 3 indoor | 385 m² indoor | Vision Meeting Room, 252 m² — theatre 220, banquet 120, reception 200, classroom 100 | 356 |
| Club Wyndham Denarau Island | Not published | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| The Terraces Fiji | None — not a conference venue | — | — | Not published |
The shape of the island is in that table. One venue does 1,000-plus. One does 500 to 640. Everything else tops out between 100 and 220. A 300-delegate conference on Denarau is a Sheraton or Sofitel conversation, or it is a multi-property plan.
Sheraton Fiji and the Denarau Island Convention Centre
Marriott publishes the Denarau Island Convention Centre as "1,755 square meters of flexible space, perfect for accommodating up to 1,500 guests", with theatre 1,500, banquet 1,000, reception 1,600 and classroom 1,100. A third-party venue directory publishes its theatre capacity as 1,700. Both figures are in circulation; confirm which applies to your layout.
Below it sits the Golden Ballroom at theatre 600, banquet 400, reception 800 and classroom 400, then a set of smaller rooms — Orchid, Gardenia, Frangipani, Pacific Ballroom, Rewa, Sigatoka, Navua and Dreketi. Outdoors, Marriott publishes the Pro-Shop Lawn at 1,500 reception and 800 banquet, Sandy Point at 800 reception, the 15th hole of the golf course at 700 reception and 500 banquet, plus the Croquet Lawn and the main beach.
Two cautions worth carrying into a site inspection. First, Marriott's venue page prints a column headed "sq.m" whose values are actually square feet — it lists the Golden Ballroom at 6,458.4 "sq.m" alongside 69,500 sq ft, and both cannot be true. Use 1,755 m² for the convention centre from Marriott's meetings page and treat the other areas as unreliable. Second, ceiling heights are modest: the convention centre publishes 11.8 feet, roughly 3.6 metres, and the Golden Ballroom 16.4 feet, roughly 5.0 metres. For anything with a flown set, read staging, rigging and set build in Fiji first.
Sheraton Denarau Villas is marketed as a separate meetings product, and Marriott describes it as having "the largest convention space in the South Pacific Islands" with capacity up to 1,600 guests — but with shared access to the Sheraton Fiji venues. It is not a separate inventory. Do not add its numbers to Sheraton Fiji's.
Sofitel Fiji: the most contradicted property on the island
Sofitel Fiji publishes a Grand Ballroom seating "up to 550 banquet style and 800 cocktail style", a Walu Room at theatre 60 and banquet 50, an Executive Boardroom of 55 m² with a 3-metre ceiling for up to 18, and outdoor space at the Waitui Beach Club, Meke Lawn and Northside Lawn.
Accor Events publishes eight meeting rooms, describes "one of Fiji's largest pillarless ballrooms, seating up to 640 banquet-style or 800 cocktail-style", calls it "the largest ballroom on the island", and gives 296 guest rooms. A third-party venue directory publishes eleven meeting rooms, 800 m² of total event space, and a Grand Ballroom at theatre 700, banquet 450 and classroom 320.
So the Grand Ballroom's banquet capacity is published as 550, 640 or 450 depending on the source, and the room count as four, eight or eleven. The cocktail figure of 800 is the only number two sources agree on. This is not a small discrepancy for anyone contracting a gala dinner, and it should be resolved in writing with the hotel before a floor plan is drawn.
Who claims the largest space?
Two competing marketing claims, both from operators, and they are not reconcilable as written.
Marriott claims the Sheraton complex holds "the largest convention space in the South Pacific Islands", up to 1,600 guests, with the convention centre at 1,755 m² for up to 1,500. Accor claims Sofitel has "the largest ballroom on the island" and "one of Fiji's largest pillarless ballrooms".
On published square metres and headcount the convention centre is far larger. Sofitel's claim is defensible only if read as largest pillarless ballroom — and Marriott never states that the convention centre is pillarless. That distinction is the whole argument, and it matters practically: a pillarless room is what you want for a plenary with sightlines, and a large room with columns is what you want for an exhibition or a banquet. Our piece on which Fiji venue is actually the largest works through the national picture.
The two properties that are not conference venues
Worth saying plainly, because both appear on island accommodation lists and get shortlisted by mistake.
Club Wyndham Denarau Island publishes no meeting-room inventory. Its page carries only a meetings, events and groups block inviting a request for information about room-block rates. A third-party directory shows dashes for total meeting space, number of rooms, largest room and every capacity. It is accommodation for a group, not a conference product — useful for overflow rooms, not for sessions.
The Terraces Fiji publishes one-, two- and three-bedroom furnished apartments and two wedding packages. It publishes no meeting rooms, no capacities, no square metres and no meetings page. The official Denarau Island site's page for it is effectively an empty placeholder. It is a wedding and accommodation venue.
What about the outdoor spaces?
This is where Denarau is genuinely strong, and where the biggest numbers sit.
Hilton Fiji publishes Koro Lawn at 3,989 m² with banquet 1,500 and reception 2,000, and Nuku Poolside at 6,685 m² — though the poolside space publishes only banquet 70 and reception 100, which tells you the area figure describes grounds rather than a usable cover count. Hilton's own "largest room setup" figure of 6,685 m² refers to that outdoor ground, not a room; its largest indoor space is the 252 m² Vision Meeting Room.
Sheraton Fiji's outdoor list above is the other large-scale option. Treat all of these as area-derived maximums: a 1,500-cover lawn dinner needs power, a kitchen tent, lighting and a wet-weather decision, and no Denarau property publishes a wet-weather policy. Wet-weather contingency planning sets out how to contract that.
How long is the transfer, really?
Published sources disagree here too. Tourism Fiji describes Denarau as "a short 20-minute drive from Nadi Airport". Marriott publishes approximately 15.0 kilometres from Sheraton and "a scenic 30-minute commute", and the same 15.0 km distance for The Westin. Radisson Blu publishes 13.6 kilometres and a 30-minute drive via the Queens Road.
Plan 30 minutes. The safe published range is roughly 13.6 to 15 kilometres, 20 to 30 minutes, and for a coach group with luggage it will be the upper end of that.
Two things nobody publishes
A combined island capacity. Marriott's Fiji meetings portfolio lists properties individually and aggregates nothing. Tourism Fiji's Denarau page says the island has nine family-friendly resorts and publishes no conference figures. No Denarau-wide business-events capacity statement exists from any primary source, so a multi-property conference has to be built property by property — our guide to running one event across four hotels covers how.
Guest-room counts from the brand. Only Hilton publishes its own room count, at 356. Sheraton, Westin, Radisson Blu and Sofitel room figures above come from third-party directories or Accor Events, not from the property's own page. For a room block, ask.
One more status check before you shortlist: Marriott's property page for The Westin currently carries a closure alert alongside a refurbishment notice bearing a 2023 reopening date. The page content is inconsistent, so confirm the property's trading status with Marriott directly before you include it.
So which venue?
Up to 100 delegates: Radisson Blu or The Westin, both of which publish a clean small-conference inventory, or Hilton's Vision room at 220 theatre if you want a bigger plenary with small breakouts.
Around 200 to 500: Sofitel, on the ballroom figures — but settle the banquet number in writing first.
Above 500, and anything up to 1,500: the Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji is the only room on the island, and one of very few in the country.
Above 1,500: Denarau does not have it indoors. That becomes an outdoor build on Hilton's Koro Lawn or Sheraton's Pro-Shop Lawn, or a multi-property programme.
Next step
Compare the published numbers side by side in the capacities tool, and check each property's listing: Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island and Club Wyndham Denarau Island. The full island picture is in the Denarau city hub and Denarau Island: the complete guide, and the national comparison sits in Fiji conference venues and capacity chart.
