Lautoka has one purpose-built conference hotel, two small meeting hotels, and two resort sites at Vuda Point that handle groups outdoors. The largest published room holds 170 theatre-style. If your plenary needs more than that under one roof, the answer is Nadi or Denarau — but for 40 to 170 delegates, Lautoka is genuinely competitive and 35 minutes closer than you think.

Fiji's second city sits about 33 kilometres north of Nadi International Airport, which is nearer than most planners assume. What it lacks is a large pillarless ballroom. What it has is a working port city with an honest cost base, a hotel that actually publishes its delegate rate, and two waterfront resort options a few minutes further on at Vuda Point.

What meeting space does Lautoka actually have?

Every published figure we could find is in the table below. Where a venue publishes nothing, we have used our own verified directory record and labelled it, because several Lautoka properties have no usable website.

The Conference Room Two conflict, in full

Tanoa publishes two different theatre figures for the same room on its own domain. The meetings page gives 60. The downloadable conference package PDF gives 70, alongside classroom 40, banquet 40 and u-shape 35. The PDF also renames the Old Mill Room as "Old Mill Road", which looks like a typo rather than a second space, since the 170 theatre figure matches.

We are publishing both numbers because we cannot tell which is current, and because a planner building a 65-person workshop needs to know the question exists. Ask for the room in writing with the setup you intend.

Which venue should anchor the conference?

Tanoa Waterfront Hotel is the only property in the precinct built around conferences. Ninety-two rooms, three indoor rooms plus the Sunset Lawn, and a published inclusions list that is unusually specific: conference pads and pens, flipcharts, whiteboards, a video-compatible sound system, wireless and lectern microphones, a projector screen and capped Wi-Fi. Zoom and hybrid capability is available at additional cost, with the amount not published.

It also publishes value-adds worth negotiating against: one complimentary room per 20 booked, and on bookings of four days or more, 15% off food and beverage at Fins restaurant for in-house delegates, plus laundry and a cocktail service.

Lautoka Hotel publishes a single conference room for up to 150 delegates and 39 rooms. It does not publish a setup breakdown or a capacity chart, so confirm whether 150 is theatre or cocktail before you plan around it.

First Landing Beach Resort & Villas at Vuda Point is the strongest option for a group that wants water rather than a city. It publishes flexible spaces for 10 to 300 guests, two multipurpose conference rooms, three separate villas for workshops and breakouts, Marks Deck and Coral Deck, and Foot Island for up to 300 with a marquee when required. Individual room capacities are not published — note that the resort's published space names differ from several third-party listings, so use the names above when you enquire.

Anchorage Beach Resort, also at Vuda Point, is a case where our directory holds more than the venue does. Its live website publishes no named function spaces and no capacities at all. The figures in our table above — a 120-seat Conference Centre, Delana House at 250 cocktail and 150 seated, Cupid's Point Bure at 300 cocktail and 100 for a ceremony, and a beach restaurant and deck at 140 cocktail — come from our own verified records. Treat them as a starting point for an enquiry, not as the venue's published position.

Cathay Hotel (38 rooms) and Belo Vula Resort, with its Bekana Island exclusive-use option, round out the precinct at the small end. Neither had a working site we could reach on 7 October 2026.

What does it cost, and what just changed?

Tanoa Waterfront publishes the only current day delegate rate we have found anywhere in Fiji:

PackageRate per personIncludes
Half dayFJD 100Morning or afternoon tea, plus lunch
Full dayFJD 115Morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea

The PDF states "all prices are inclusive of government taxes". It carries no version date, which matters more than usual right now: Fiji's VAT fell to 12.5% on 1 August 2025, and a new 5% Tourism Services Tax took effect on 1 September 2026 for operators above a FJD 2 million turnover threshold. Service Turnover Tax and the Environment and Climate Adaptation Levy have both been abolished and should not appear on any invoice.

So confirm two things in writing: that the FJD 115 is current, and whether it includes the TST. Published beverage add-ons give you some further line items — orange juice FJD 65 for six litres, tropical juice FJD 75, fresh kumquat juice FJD 85.

No venue in the precinct publishes a room hire fee or an accommodation rack rate.

How long is the transfer from Nadi?

Nadi International Airport to Lautoka: approximately 33 kilometres, around 35 minutes. That figure comes from the Fiji Pocket Guide driving-times table, an independent guidebook source rather than an official one, and it assumes a clear run in a car.

Build in more for a coach. Fiji's open-road speed limit is 80 km/h, the route passes through Nadi town and several villages with lower limits, and the sugar-cane crushing season puts heavy vehicles on the Queens Road. For a 120-delegate movement in two coaches, plan 50 minutes door to door and brief drivers on a single pickup point.

We could not find any published distance or drive time for Nadi to Vuda Point, so if First Landing or Anchorage is your venue, ask the resort directly rather than assuming it is the same as Lautoka city.

For marquees and furniture, Clyde Equipment Marquee Hire and Nand's Chair & Table Hire are both based in Lautoka, Total Audio Needs covers local AV, and Ramlus Catering Services handles offsite catering across Lautoka, Nadi and Denarau.

The verdict

Choose Lautoka if your plenary is 40 to 170 delegates, you want a cost base below the Denarau resort strip, and a 35-minute airport transfer is acceptable. Tanoa Waterfront is the only venue that can run a conventional conference end to end.

Choose Vuda Point if the programme is half conference and half outdoor function, and you want water and an island site without an island transfer. First Landing's 10-to-300 range and marquee option make it the most flexible space in the precinct.

Go elsewhere if you need a single seated room above 170, a published rack rate to budget against, or a venue with in-house hybrid broadcast. Conference venues in Nadi and on Denarau Island both go considerably larger.

Next step: compare Lautoka's ceiling against the whole country in the Fiji conference venue capacity chart, and read Lautoka: the complete guide for what delegates can actually do in the city after 5pm.
