Exactly one Fiji room publishes a single-space theatre capacity that comfortably clears 800: the Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, at 1,500 theatre and 1,000 banquet. A second, the Crown Convention Centre at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay, probably clears it but publishes four different numbers. Everything else in the country tops out around 650 indoors.

That makes 800 the delegate count where Fiji changes character. Below it, you are choosing a resort. At it, you are choosing a precinct.

Which Fiji venues seat 800 in one room?

Every figure is from the venue's own website unless noted. Where two sources disagree, both appear.

Japan-Pacific ICT Centre, USPMultipurpose Theatre307——No

Two findings in that table are new and worth pulling out.

Suva City Council publishes the New Town Hall auditorium at 727 seats and its Lower Hall at 500. That is the largest fixed-seat civic room in the capital outside Vodafone Arena, and at 727 it lands agonisingly short of 800 — close enough that an AGM of 750 has a Suva home nobody talks about, and an 800-delegate plenary does not.

And Novotel Suva's Entertainment Centre is the only indoor space outside Denarau that has ever published an 800 figure. Accor's booking site lists it at 1,248 m² with a maximum of 800. Accor's own events site, checked 6 October 2026, does not list the Entertainment Centre at all — it gives the property's total event space as 825 m² across five rooms, with the Novotel Convention Centre at 480 m² and 350 theatre as the largest. Those two Accor-owned channels cannot both be right. The room may well be large enough; it is not marketed as a conference venue and we will not state a capacity for it.

What if 800 only has to dine, not sit in rows?

This is the question that unlocks Fiji at this size, and the answer is much better.

So an 800-delegate conference in Fiji is entirely normal as long as the plenary is the only thing that needs 800 seats facing one direction. The gala dinner, the welcome reception and the awards night all have multiple homes — two of them indoors at 800 standing.

The discipline this imposes is simple and worth stating: cost the outdoor options with marquee hire, a power run and a named wet-weather room, not as free lawn. Fiji's largest published capacity in the country is grass.

The 800-delegate bed problem

Here is the constraint that actually decides your bid, and it has nothing to do with ballrooms.

No Fijian property has 800 rooms. At single occupancy, 800 delegates need roughly 800 keys; even at a generous share ratio you are past every single property in the country. An 800-delegate residential conference in Fiji is therefore a multi-property event by arithmetic, not by preference.

That is exactly why Denarau wins bids at this size. The convention centre, Sheraton Fiji, Hilton Fiji, Radisson Blu, Sofitel and Club Wyndham sit inside one precinct behind one causeway, so delegates walk or take a short shuttle to plenary rather than driving a highway. No other Fiji location replicates that. Multi-property conferences: running one event across four hotels covers the contracting, and moving 100, 300 and 800 delegates around Fiji covers the shuttle plan.

Shangri-La Yanuca Island is the best single-address ratio in the country — 443 rooms — but its plenary caps at 650, so it cannot be the one-site answer for 800 either.

The deductions nobody applies

A published theatre figure is a seating-plan maximum, not an operating capacity. Before you believe 800, deduct:

  • Stage, screens and wings. A main-stage set with LED and a presenter runway typically removes 10 to 15 per cent of a room's seats. LED walls, projection and screens in Fiji covers what those sets physically need.
  • Aisles and egress to the standard the venue is actually licensed to, not the standard that fits the most chairs.
  • Camera, audio and lighting positions, plus front-of-house mix, if you are streaming. See live streaming and hybrid delivery from Fiji.
  • Accessible seating and the companion seats beside it.
  • Catering turn space if the room flips to banquet.

An 800-seat requirement in a room sold at 900 is tight. In a room sold at 1,500 it is comfortable. That gap is the whole argument for the Denarau Island Convention Centre over the Crown Convention Centre at this size, and it is worth more than the price difference.

Also ask the kitchen question: 800 plated covers is a serious ask, and the banquet kitchen is the constraint nobody checks. Banquet kitchen capacity sets out how to put it.

Where the published figures conflict

Fiji venue data contradicts itself routinely, and at 800 delegates the contradictions are expensive. The live ones:

  • Crown Convention Centre: 900, "1,000+", or 1,450. The resort's convention-centre page carries 900 and "1,000+ guest events" on the same page; IHG's corporate site says 1,450. No floor area is published by the resort at all.
  • Sheraton's floor areas are square feet printed as square metres. Marriott's venues chart gives the convention centre as 18,890.8 in units labelled square metres, against 1,755 m² on its own meetings page — a factor of 10.76, which is the sq ft to m² ratio. The capacities are sound; the areas are not. Which Fiji venue is actually the largest? works that through.
  • Novotel Suva's Entertainment Centre appears on one Accor channel and not the other, as above.
  • Vodafone Arena: 5,000 or 4,000. Our directory holds 5,000 theatre; Wikipedia records 4,000. Neither is confirmed by a current Fiji Sports Council capacity statement we could retrieve.

Get your number in writing, with a floor plan and a seating diagram at your configuration, before it goes in a board paper.

The verdict

  • For 800 delegates facing one stage, with the beds to match: the Denarau Island Convention Centre, with the Denarau precinct carrying the room block. It is the only answer with headroom rather than a tight fit.
  • For 800 with a shorter airport transfer and a single host property: the Crown Convention Centre at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay, 324 rooms on site and minutes from Nadi International — on condition you get the single-room capacity confirmed in writing, because its published figures do not agree with each other.
  • For 800 at dinner rather than in rows: Hilton Fiji's Koro Lawn or Sheraton's Pro-Shop Lawn outdoors, or the Golden Ballroom or Sofitel's Grand Ballroom indoors at 800 standing.
  • For a single 800-person general session with delegates bedded elsewhere: Vodafone Arena in Suva, understanding you are building a conference inside a sports venue.
  • If the number is really 700: New Town Hall's 727-seat auditorium puts a large plenary in central Suva for the first time in this analysis. Worth a call.

Next step: pick the precinct before the property, then get three things in writing — single-room capacity at your set, the banquet kitchen's plated covers per hour, and the room block across every hotel in the precinct. We publish the same analysis at 500 delegates and 1,000 delegates; the full dataset is in Fiji conference venues and capacity chart, and you can browse by size at the capacity index.
