Fiji has a real wedding supply base — celebrants, photographers, florists, stylists, hire companies, hair and makeup artists, bakers, caterers, musicians and transport operators — concentrated in Nadi and Suva, with working suppliers in Lautoka, on the Coral Coast and in the north. Nobody publishes a comparable list. This is that list, plus the contracting discipline that makes quotes comparable.

Why book Fijian suppliers rather than fly your own in?

Two reasons, and only one of them is cost.

The legal one. A Fiji Visitors Permit does not allow work or any form of employment. Paying a photographer, stylist, celebrant or musician to work at your Fiji wedding is paid work performed in Fiji, whoever raises the invoice and wherever the money moves. That is a question for the Ministry of Immigration, not for a resort coordinator. See the Fiji wedding visa guide.

The practical one. A supplier who works in Fiji already knows what the trade winds do to a veil, what humidity does to buttercream, how long the boat actually takes, and which resorts charge an outside-vendor fee. That knowledge is most of what you are buying.

One caveat worth stating plainly: check the resort's outside-vendor policy before you book anyone. Some properties charge a fee for external suppliers and some do not permit them at all. It is question four of the five in Fiji wedding resorts A-Z.

Celebrants

Only a Fijian celebrant may solemnise a marriage and sign the certificate. An overseas officiant can share vows and blessings by arrangement, but cannot be the officiant of record. The registered pool is not large, so book early.

Celebrant Fiji (Nadi) · Satya Nand (Suva) · Anup Kumar (Lautoka) · Apisai Wavere Vasu (Mamanucas) · Daniel Kenneth Dimmock (Taveuni and Vanua Levu)

Planners and coordinators

The people who run the registry visit, hold the supplier chain together and make the wet-weather call. Worth it in proportion to how far away you live and how many outside suppliers you are using.

How do you make supplier quotes comparable?

The same discipline that works on venues works here. Send every supplier in a category the same eight questions, in one email, and compare the replies rather than the websites.

  1. What exactly is included, itemised?
  2. What is the coverage or service window, and the overtime rate?
  3. Are travel and transfers included, and is an overnight stay required?
  4. Is VAT included in the figure quoted?
  5. What is the deposit, the balance date and the cancellation policy?
  6. What happens if it rains — do you still set up, and is there a cost?
  7. Have you worked at this property before, and do they charge you an outside-vendor fee?
  8. Who is the named person actually attending on the day?

Question three is what separates a mainland quote from an island quote. Question seven is the one that saves money. Question eight is the one that saves the day.

Contract basics worth insisting on

  • A named individual, not just a company
  • Arrival and departure times, in writing
  • The wet-weather position stated explicitly
  • Payment schedule with a currency named — and if you are paying in FJD from abroad, ask what date's rate applies
  • What happens if the supplier cannot attend: is there a substitute, and who approves them

The verdict

  • Book Fijian. It is the right answer legally and practically.
  • Check the resort's outside-vendor policy first. It can rule suppliers out before you start.
  • Marquees have the longest lead time. Celebrants have the smallest pool. Book both early.
  • Compare on eight questions, not on websites. Every supplier looks good on a website.

Next step: fix the venue and the month, because both constrain who you can use — Fiji wedding resorts A-Z and the best time to get married in Fiji. Then work through the booking order in the planning timeline and price it against what a Fiji wedding actually costs. Copy-and-paste enquiry wording is collected in Fiji wedding tools and templates.
