Auckland to Nadi is a non-stop flight of about three hours and ten minutes, flown by Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand, with roughly two to three departures a day between them. Groups of 10 or more go through an airline group desk rather than retail booking. Fiji is one hour behind Auckland during New Zealand daylight time.
That combination — short sector, daily frequency, small time shift — is the practical reason Fiji beats most of its competitors for a New Zealand conference. It is also the reason planners get day one wrong, because a three-hour flight feels like something you can schedule around casually. You cannot.
Who flies Auckland to Nadi, and how often?
Published schedule data for a sample week in late 2026 showed the following. Treat it as a shape, not a timetable — frequencies move with season and demand.
| Carrier | Services in the sample week | Flight numbers | Aircraft on the route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiji Airways | 13 | FJ410 daily; FJ412 six days a week, not Friday | Boeing 737 MAX 8, Airbus A330-200, A330-300 |
| Air New Zealand | 11 | NZ952 daily; NZ954 Friday to Sunday; NZ950 Wednesday only | Airbus A321neo, Boeing 777-300ER, Boeing 787-9 |
One honesty note on the source: the same schedule page headlines "30 flights per week" while its own day-by-day tables add to 24. We are quoting the tables, because they are the more specific figure, and flagging the discrepancy rather than picking the bigger number. Verify current frequency with the carriers before you build a programme on it.
The useful planning takeaways:
- There is a daily service on both carriers. You are never dependent on a twice-weekly flight, which is the problem with several competing Pacific destinations.
- Capacity per service varies enormously. A 737 MAX 8 and a 777-300ER are not the same seat count. If your group needs 120 seats on one flight, the aircraft type on your date matters more than the frequency does.
- Friday and the weekend are the thin and thick days. Fiji Airways' second daily does not operate on Friday; Air New Zealand adds services Friday to Sunday. Build around it.
How does a group booking actually work?
Fiji Airways operates its group bookings channel for 10 or more passengers travelling together. Below that threshold you are buying retail fares, with all the flexibility and none of the leverage. At or above it, you submit a group quote request and the airline comes back with held space.
What the airline does not publish on its public group page — and what you therefore have to extract in writing — is the commercial frame:
- Deposit amount and when it is due.
- Name list deadline. The date by which every traveller must be named.
- Name change rules and fees after that date. This is the clause that costs money when a delegate drops out.
- Final payment deadline, and what happens to the allocation if you miss it.
- Baggage allowance on the group fare, which is not always the same as the published retail allowance.
- Whether seats are assigned or allocated at check-in. For a group travelling together this matters.
Diary every one of those dates the day you receive them. A released group allocation three weeks before a conference is the single most expensive avoidable failure in this part of the job.
What does the time change do to your agenda?
Fiji sits on UTC+12 and does not observe daylight saving. It skipped the expected change in November 2022 and repealed its Daylight Saving Act in January 2024, so the offset is now stable year-round.
New Zealand moves to UTC+13 for daylight time from late September to early April. The consequence:
| Period | Auckland | Fiji | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Late Sep - early Apr (NZDT) | UTC+13 | UTC+12 | Fiji 1 hour behind |
| Apr - late Sep (NZST) | UTC+12 | UTC+12 | Same time |
So across the busiest conference months, a delegate leaving Auckland gains an hour on arrival. Combined with a three-hour-ten-minute sector, that makes a morning departure land in Fiji while the day is still fully usable — which is the structural advantage worth designing into your programme.
Exact departure and arrival times shift seasonally, so build your day-one run sheet off the actual flight times on your dates, not off a general rule.
How should you structure day one?
The mistake is treating a short flight as a non-event. A group of 200 arriving on two or three different services across an afternoon is still a group arriving across several hours, and the airport, immigration and your coaches do not care that the flight was short.
Three workable patterns:
- Single-flight arrival. Block one service, land everyone together, run one transfer wave, and schedule a welcome function that evening. Cleanest option; needs the aircraft type to carry your numbers.
- Two-flight arrival, one wave. Land both services within a couple of hours, hold the earlier arrivals in a lounge or a meet-and-greet area, and move everyone in one coach wave. Costs you some delegate patience; saves coach movements.
- Rolling arrival, free afternoon. Let delegates arrive across the day, run continuous transfers, and put nothing in the programme before dinner. The honest option when flights cannot be consolidated.
Whichever you choose, the arrival-side mechanics are the part that actually determines whether day one works. When is a charter worth pricing?
Roughly once you are moving more than about 150 travellers on the same day, or once consolidating the arrival is worth real money to the programme. The comparison is not airfare against airfare — it is airfare plus four coach waves plus two hours of delegate waiting against a single landing and a single wave.
Do not treat it as exotic. Ask your DMC or PCO to price both, and make the decision on the total day-one cost rather than the ticket line. Our DMC and PCO directory has the partners who quote this routinely.
