Fifty delegates is the size most Fiji hotels claim to handle and fewer actually do, because the test is two-sided: one room that genuinely seats 50 in the layout you need, and enough guest rooms on site to sleep them. Below are the properties that pass both on the figures we hold, with the recorded capacities so you can check the set-up before you enquire.

What does 50 delegates actually require?

Two numbers, and the second is the one that gets missed.

One room, in your layout. Fifty in theatre rows is a very different space from fifty at classroom tables. Our recorded figures make the ratio visible: the Westin Denarau's Senijale at 67.2 m² takes 60 theatre but 48 classroom; Holiday Inn Suva's Banyan Room at 150 m² takes 100 theatre but 50 classroom; Tokatoka's Duavata at 122 m² takes 70 theatre and 50 classroom. If your programme needs tables and laptops, assume you need close to double the room a theatre layout would.

Thirty-five to fifty guest rooms. Fifty delegates means roughly 35 rooms at generous twin-share and up to 50 if everyone has their own. A hotel with a 200-seat function room and 29 bedrooms is not a 50-delegate residential venue.

Nadi and Denarau

The default choice for an internationally arriving group, because the airport is 25 to 30 minutes away rather than several hours.

The pick for a workshop-format 50. Tokatoka's Talei Meeting Room at 262 m² records 80 classroom, which means a genuine table set-up for 50 with room to move - and 108 rooms on site. Hexagon's Lakomai at 113 m² records 60 classroom, which is the tightest honest fit on this list; ask to see it before committing.

The pick for plenary plus breakouts. Tanoa International records four separate spaces from 70 to 200 theatre plus a 100-theatre convention centre, so you can run a main room and two breakouts without hiring a second venue.

The pick for a resort experience at 50. The Westin's Senijale is sized almost exactly for this group - 60 theatre in 67.2 m² - inside a 246-room resort ON Denarau Island. You are not paying for a ballroom you cannot fill.

Suva

Suva suits a conference whose delegates are already in Fiji, or one with a government or institutional agenda. For an internationally arriving group, add the road transfer from Nadi to your programme.

The outlier worth noting. Studio 6 Apartments records 250 classroom in a 307 m² room with 89 apartments on site - the strongest classroom figure relative to floor area in our Suva data. For a training-format 50 that is a serious option, and it is not a hotel most planners have on their list.

Novotel Suva Lami Bay also records three separate boardrooms at 21 to 24 m² alongside its two large rooms, which makes it the Suva property best set up for plenary-plus-syndicate at this size.

Lautoka and the rest

Tanoa Waterfront Hotel records 92 rooms with a Conference Room Two at 60 theatre and an Old Mill Room at 170 theatre, plus a Sunset Lawn recorded at 200 reception. That is the clearest 50-delegate match outside Nadi, Denarau and Suva.

Three Lautoka and Pacific Harbour properties have the room but not the beds: Lautoka Hotel records a 150-theatre room with 39 guest rooms, Cathay Hotel a 60-theatre room with 38, and Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort at Pacific Harbour records both a 200-theatre and a 250-theatre space with 23 rooms. They work as day venues or with accommodation nearby, not as self-contained residential conferences for 50.

ON the Coral Coast, several large resorts have substantial inventories - Shangri-La Yanuca Island at 443 rooms, InterContinental Fiji at 266, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort at 254, Warwick Fiji at 247 - but our directory does not currently hold recorded meeting-room capacities for them. We are not going to publish numbers we have not verified: request the square metres and the capacity by set-up directly, and cross-check Conference Venues on the Coral Coast.

Which should you choose?

  • A board or executive retreat for 50: the Westin Denarau's Senijale or Senirosi Dua - resort setting, right-sized room, 246 rooms behind it.
  • A training or workshop format for 50: Tokatoka's Talei Meeting Room at 262 m², or Studio 6 in Suva at 307 m² and 250 classroom.
  • Plenary plus two breakouts: Tanoa International in Nadi, or Novotel Suva Lami Bay.
  • Lowest transfer friction from the airport: Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay or Tanoa Skylodge.
  • Outside the three main precincts: Tanoa Waterfront in Lautoka.

Before you sign

Ask for four things in writing: the square metres and capacity in your exact set-up, the number of guest rooms held and the release date, the breakout adjacency, and whether the quote includes Fiji's VAT, service turnover tax and environment levy. The last one moves a quote by double digits - see VAT, Service Charge and Levies on a Fiji Event Invoice.

If your numbers grow, step up through Fiji Venues That Can Hold 100 Delegates and 200 Delegates. By precinct, see Conference Venues in Nadi, Conference Venues in Suva and Conference Venues on Denarau Island. The hub is Fiji Conference Venues & Capacity Chart, and every recorded space is filterable on the capacity charts.
