A vow renewal in Fiji has no legal effect — you are already married, so there is no licence, no registry office and no residency clock. What you book is a ceremony: a celebrant or minister, a setting, flowers, music and usually a dinner. Published packages for two start around FJ$1,950 and run to about FJ$2,400.
That absence of paperwork is the whole appeal. Everything that makes a Fiji wedding a logistical exercise — the 28-day licence window, the document gathering, the registry appointment — simply does not apply.
Do you need a marriage licence to renew your vows in Fiji?
No. A vow renewal does not create, alter or dissolve a marriage, so Fiji's marriage licensing process is not engaged. None of the resort vow renewal packages we reviewed lists a marriage licence, a certificate of no impediment, or registry documents among their requirements — unlike the same resorts' wedding packages, which all do.
What you will still be asked for is a booking, a date, and in most cases a minimum stay at the property.
Guideline only. If your renewal is intended to have any legal consequence — for example if you were married in a ceremony that was never registered — confirm your position with the Fiji Registrar-General's Office before travelling, because that is a marriage question, not a renewal question.
What does a Fiji vow renewal actually cost?
Three properties publish a price. All figures retrieved 25 September 2026 and quoted in Fiji dollars.
| Resort | Package | Published price (FJD) | Guests included |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa | Renewal of Vows | FJ$1,950 | 2 |
| Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort | Renewal of Vows | FJ$2,000 (inclusive of Fiji Government Tax) | Not specified |
| Castaway Island Resort | Vow Renewal | FJ$2,362.50 | 2 |

At the Reserve Bank of Fiji's rates on 25 September 2026 — NZD 1 ≈ FJ$1.275, AUD 1 ≈ FJ$1.580 — FJ$2,000 is roughly NZ$1,570 or A$1,265. Re-check the rate before you budget; the Fiji dollar is pegged to a currency basket and moves.
Note what these prices do and do not cover. They are the ceremony. Accommodation, flights, transfers and anything for guests beyond the two of you sit on top. A renewal is inexpensive as a ceremony; it is a holiday with a ceremony in it as a trip.
What is in a package?
Outrigger publishes the most detailed inclusions of the three, and it is a fair template for what the category looks like: a dedicated wedding coordinator, an ordained church minister or an official representative from the Registrar to officiate, a bridal bouquet and tiara, a buttonhole, tropical floral arrangements, a trio of guitar serenaders, sparkling wine for the toast, and a romantic dinner for two at the IVI restaurant. Special wording can be arranged with the officiant on prior request.
Two practical details from the same page worth copying into your own questions. The package is unavailable 24–26 December, 30–31 December and 1 January — renewals are often planned around anniversaries, and a Christmas or New Year anniversary may not be bookable. And the officiant may be a Registrar representative rather than a church minister, which matters if you want a particular religious form.
Where can you hold it?
Because there is no legal venue requirement, the setting is genuinely open. Resorts publish these:
- Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort — Sunset Lawn (beachside), the Beach itself (white sand, sunset views), or the Garden Lawn. The resort also has the hilltop Bure Ni Loloma Chapel, capacity up to 120, and the air-conditioned Reef Ballroom, also to 120.
- Castaway Island Resort — Monkey Rock Beach, the Water's Edge Jetty, or the thatched Mokimokiti Cabana, described by the resort as "the perfect location regardless of weather conditions".
- Musket Cove Island Resort — the colonial-style Island Chapel (up to 80), Coral Cay Island (up to 100), or the beach (up to 100), with the air-conditioned Marama Room (up to 100) as the covered option (Musket Cove).
- Malolo Island Resort — beach at sunset, the arrival jetty, the gardens or poolside. Malolo publishes a free-ceremony offer for 1 November to 31 March (Malolo Island).
For a renewal with no guests, the smallest and most private properties come into their own — Tropica Island Resort, Matamanoa Island Resort and Likuliku Lagoon Resort are all adults-only. None publishes ceremony capacities, so ask.
How does a renewal differ from an elopement or a small wedding?
This is the question most couples are really asking, and the answer is about paperwork and about guests.
| Vow renewal | Elopement | Micro-wedding | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Legal marriage created | No | Yes | Yes |
| Fiji marriage licence needed | No | Yes — valid 28 days from issue | Yes |
| Registry office visit | No | Yes | Yes |
| Typical guest count | 0–2, occasionally family | 0–2 plus witnesses | 10–30 |
| Published package cost for two | FJ$1,950–2,362 | Higher — legal fees and documents included | Higher again |
Fiji requires two witnesses with valid photo ID for a legal marriage, and the licence is issued by registry offices in Suva, Lautoka and Labasa and district offices including Nadi, Sigatoka, Navua, Ba and Savusavu (Bula Bride legal guide). None of that applies to a renewal.
If you want the full comparison, elopement vs micro-wedding vs full wedding in Fiji sets out the trade-offs, and Fiji elopement packages compared prices the legal route.
What about anniversaries, family and children?
Renewals bring a different guest mix from weddings. Often it is the couple plus adult children, or a small group of friends already on the trip. Two things follow.
First, check whether the property is adults-only before you plan around children. Several of the most romantic Mamanuca resorts are.
Second, if you want more than a handful of people, you are back in venue-capacity territory and should treat it like a small wedding. Micro-weddings in Fiji: 10 to 30 guests is the right starting point, and the capacity chart will tell you which properties can take the number you have in mind.
Who officiates, and can you bring your own?
Resort packages supply an officiant. Because there is no legal requirement, you are also free to have the ceremony led by a friend, a family member, or a Fijian minister of your choosing — but ask the resort first, since some package prices are built around an in-house officiant and removing them may not reduce the price.
Independent celebrants listed in our directory include Celebrant Fiji, which serves Nadi, Denarau, Lautoka, the Mamanucas and the Coral Coast. If you want Fijian cultural elements included — a meke, a choir, a sevusevu — book them through a named performer or group and pay them properly; Fijian warriors, meke and choirs explains how that is done respectfully.
The verdict
Choose a renewal if you want the ceremony without the process. It is the cheapest formal ceremony Fiji offers, the least constrained by season and paperwork, and the only one where you can decide on the setting a week out.
Choose an elopement instead if you actually want the marriage to be legal in Fiji — the licence, witnesses and registry visit are real work, and doing them by accident is not possible.
Start with the elopement and vow renewal guide for the whole category, then shortlist by setting using Fiji wedding venues or browse resorts by region from Denarau and the Coral Coast.
