Fiji offers roughly a dozen distinct wedding settings — beach, chapel, overwater deck, lawn, garden, hilltop, private island, poolside, pier and rainforest — spread across ten regions that range from a 20-minute drive to a five-hour boat ride from Nadi airport. Choosing well means picking the setting first, then the island that suits your guest count and travel tolerance.
This is the routing page for everything we publish on Fiji wedding venues. It sorts the decision the way it actually gets made: setting, then island, then guest count, then the things that quietly rule venues out.
What wedding settings does Fiji actually offer?
Fiji's settings are not interchangeable, and the differences are practical rather than aesthetic.
Beach. The default and the most widely offered. Almost every resort in the directory has one. What varies is whether the beach is private, whether the tide reaches your ceremony line, and whether the resort's other guests are on it at 4pm. Ask for a site inspection photo taken at your ceremony time, not a marketing shot.
Chapel. Fiji has more purpose-built wedding chapels than most Pacific destinations, and they solve the wet-weather and wind problems that beaches do not. Published examples include the Oceanside Wedding Chapel at Sheraton Fiji, the Bure Ni Loloma on Lomalagi Hill at Outrigger Fiji, the Seaside Chapel at Shangri-La Yanuca Island, the Island Chapel at Musket Cove, the Seaside Chapel at Mana Island, the Island Chapel at Vomo and the glass-walled pavilion at InterContinental Fiji. Chapels are small: where a capacity is published it sits between 30 and 80.
Lawn and garden. The compromise setting — outdoor, photogenic, but on grass rather than sand, which means heels work, chairs sit level and a marquee can go up. Denarau and the Coral Coast resorts are strongest here.
Overwater deck and pier. Rare and dramatic. Likuliku Lagoon Resort offers ceremonies on the deck of an overwater bure; Tropica names its pier. These settings hold very few people — often just the couple and a handful.
Hilltop. Elevated ceremony sites trade the beach for a view and a climb. Outrigger's chapel sits on a hill above the resort, which is worth knowing if guests have mobility needs.
Private island. Fiji's genuine differentiator. Musket Cove publishes Coral Cay Island at 100 guests. Nanuku has a two-acre private island. Warwick Fiji names Wicked Walu. Belo Vula offers Bekana Island on exclusive use for 50. Vomo sells private island hire outright.
Poolside and rainforest. Poolside works for evening receptions more than ceremonies. Rainforest settings exist inland — Colo-i-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort near Suva is the clearest example — and suit couples who want green rather than blue.
Which Fiji island should you get married on?
Work outward from Nadi airport, because travel time is the variable your guests will feel most.
Denarau Island — 20 to 30 minutes by road. The highest concentration of large-capacity resorts in the country, all on one causeway-linked island with a marina, golf course and restaurant strip. Choose it for guest counts above 100, for guests who want to walk between hotels, and for anyone nervous about boats. It is a built resort precinct, not a desert island, and the beach is not Fiji's best. Start with Sheraton Fiji, The Westin, Hilton Fiji and Radisson Blu, or browse the whole Denarau precinct.
Nadi and Momi Bay — 20 to 45 minutes by road. Convenient rather than scenic, but Momi Bay changes that: Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay publishes the largest ceremony capacity we found anywhere in Fiji, 500 on Vonu Beach, and states it hosts one wedding a day. Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay and DoubleTree by Hilton at Sonaisali are the other options; DoubleTree adds a three-minute boat crossing, which is a charming detail or a logistical wrinkle depending on your guests.
Lautoka and Vuda — 15 to 20 minutes by road. Underrated and cheaper. First Landing publishes reception capacity for 300 on its own Big Foot Island and sits "only 20 minutes from Nadi International airport". Anchorage Beach Resort publishes a 100-guest ceremony site. Belo Vula offers Bekana Island exclusively.
Coral Coast — roughly 50 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes by road. Fiji's classic resort coast, with the strongest mix of scale and setting. Shangri-La Yanuca Island sits on its own island reached by a short causeway and publishes reception spaces to 500. Outrigger Fiji is the most transparent venue in the country on capacity and wet weather. Warwick Fiji, The Naviti and InterContinental Fiji at Natadola complete the shortlist. Note the honest tradeoff: an hour or more each way for every airport transfer and every day trip.
Pacific Harbour — just over two to three hours by road. Green, quiet and close to Beqa Lagoon's diving. Nanuku publishes 6 to 120 guests and offers a 30-minute private air transfer that removes the drive entirely. The Pearl Resort and Uprising Beach Resort are the alternatives. Two published drive times conflict — "just over two hours" from Nanuku and "approximately 3 hours" from a neighbouring resort — so budget for three.
Mamanuca Islands — 30 minutes to 75 minutes by boat, or 10 to 15 minutes by helicopter. The postcard. Small resorts, clear water, genuine island feel, and capacities to match: Musket Cove publishes 100 on its beach and its private cay, Tropica offers a whole-resort takeover for 60, and Likuliku, Matamanoa, Tokoriki, Mana, Plantation Island and Vomo all sit within an hour or so of Port Denarau. The catch is real: every guest transfer is a boat, and boats are weather-dependent and time-tabled.
Yasawa Islands — two to five hours by catamaran, or about 30 minutes by seaplane. The most beautiful and the most committing. The Yasawa Flyer departs Port Denarau each morning and reaches the far northern resorts around 1.45pm; Nanuya Island Resort states the trip "takes around 5 hours". Yasawa Island Resort flies guests in by charter, departing Nadi at 2:00pm and arriving 2:30pm, and offers island buy-outs. Choose the Yasawas for a small group who will treat the journey as part of the holiday, and build a rest day around the transfer rather than pretending it does not exist.
Lomaiviti and the outer islands. Leleuvia publishes a 150-guest maximum and offers the entire island from 50 guests with a two-night minimum, in April, May, September and October — an unusually specific and unusually generous offer. It is reached from eastern Viti Levu rather than Nadi. Toberua and Royal Davui are the other options.
Taveuni and Vanua Levu. For couples who want rainforest, waterfalls and diving over resort infrastructure: Taveuni Palms, Namale, Matangi Private Island and The Remote Resort. Access is a domestic flight — Nadi to Savusavu is published at 55 minutes, Nadi to Taveuni's Matei airstrip at about an hour and 15.
How does your guest count narrow the field?
This is the fastest way to cut a long list down, and it works because room inventory rather than beach size is the real constraint on an island.
| Guest count | Where it works | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| 2 (elopement) | Anywhere, including overwater decks and hilltops | Two witnesses are still legally required |
| 10–20 | Any island resort; small chapels; private dining rooms | Minimum-spend and minimum-night rules bite hardest here |
| 30–50 | Chapels (30–80 published), most Mamanuca resorts, InterContinental packages | Chapel capacity, not beach capacity, is the ceiling |
| 60–80 | Tropica whole-resort (60), Musket Cove Island Chapel (80), Belo Vula's Bekana (50) | Whether the resort can sleep everyone |
| 100–120 | Musket Cove beach and cay (100), Outrigger (100–120), Nanuku (120), Anchorage (100) | Above 100, island resorts start running out of rooms before space |
| 150–250 | Denarau resorts, First Landing (250–300), Leleuvia (150), Coral Coast halls | Reception seating, not the ceremony, is the binding limit |
| 300–500+ | Fiji Marriott Momi Bay (500 on Vonu Beach), Shangri-La Yanuca (500), Sheraton Fiji Convention Centre | You are now planning an event, not a wedding — get a coordinator |
Where a resort publishes no capacity at all — and most do not — assume the ceiling is set by how many rooms it has. Our Fiji wedding venue capacity chart records every published figure and names the venues that publish nothing.
What quietly rules a Fiji venue out?
Five things, none of which appear in a brochure.
Minimum-night stays. Vomo requires four nights for the couple, three for group weddings, and that all wedding guests reside on the island. Plantation Island packages run to four nights, five for the premium upgrade. Leleuvia requires two nights for island exclusivity. Multiply that by your guest list before you compare package prices.
Outside-vendor policy. Mana requires the on-resort minister, with an $800 charge to bring in a Catholic priest, and prices in-house photography at $1,500. Matamanoa charges a FJ$250 location fee for an external photographer. Outrigger prohibits bring-your-own alcohol at private functions. Most resorts publish nothing, so ask before booking anyone from our supplier directory.
Wet-weather backup. Only two Fiji resorts name one publicly: Outrigger's Palm View Terrace and Musket Cove's Marama Room. Everyone else has indoor space but no written commitment. In the November-to-April wet season this is the question that matters most — see cyclone season and your Fiji wedding.
Transfer weight limits. If your ceremony is on an island reached by seaplane or helicopter, baggage is capped hard. Island Hoppers publishes 15kg per person by helicopter with excess at FJ$12 per kilo, and 23kg by fixed wing; Turtle Airways publishes a combined-weight maximum of 460kg outbound from Nadi. A wedding dress, suits and decor do not always fit. Talk to the transport operators about a boat for the freight.
Sundays. Likuliku does not hold ceremonies on Sundays. Fiji is a churchgoing country and this is not unusual — check before you set a date.
Beach, chapel or private island — how to decide
Choose a beach if the photographs matter most and you can accept that the weather decides your afternoon. Choose a chapel if you have older guests, a fixed start time, or a genuine aversion to risk — it is the only setting in Fiji that is weatherproof by design. Choose a private island or a buyout if the guest list is under 60 and the point of the trip is that nobody else is there.
Choose Denarau for scale and simplicity, the Coral Coast for the best balance of setting and capacity, the Mamanucas for the classic Fiji picture at 100 guests or fewer, and the Yasawas only if your group will genuinely enjoy the journey.
What does a Fiji wedding venue cost to hire?
Almost no Fiji resort publishes a venue-hire rate, and the ones that publish anything publish a fragment. Mana Island states F$2,500 including taxes as a room-hire fee for exclusive use of a restaurant. Matamanoa publishes a FJ$250 location fee for an external photographer. Beyond that, the model across the country is a wedding package — ceremony setup, celebrant, licence assistance, flowers, cake, sometimes photography — priced per couple with per-guest add-ons, and quoted on enquiry.
That matters for how you compare venues. Two resorts quoting similar package prices can differ by thousands once you add minimum nights, guest meal upgrades, a wet-weather marquee and transfers. Ask every shortlisted venue for the same five line items — ceremony site fee, package inclusions, per-guest reception cost, wet-weather cost and transfer cost per guest — and compare those, not the headline.
One cost to build in from the start: from 1 September 2026 Fiji applies a 5% Tourism Services Tax to hotels and tour operators with annual turnover above FJ$2 million, announced in the 2026–2027 National Budget on 26 June 2026 and stated to run for 12 months. That sits on top of existing taxes and applies to most of the resorts on this page. Our Fiji wedding cost guide carries the full tax and conversion detail.
Does the resort coordinate, or do you need your own planner?
Most of Fiji's larger resorts include a coordinator. Sheraton Fiji and Fiji Marriott Momi Bay offer Marriott Certified Wedding Planners. First Landing publishes a full-time wedding and functions coordinator. Nanuku says its on-site specialists will introduce local vendors for florals, decor, lighting, photography and videography. Wellesley goes further: "we will arrange the entire wedding for you."
A resort coordinator manages the resort. An independent planner manages everything the resort does not — off-site suppliers, guest logistics, the run sheet, the contingency call. If your wedding is under 30 guests at a resort with an in-house team, the resort coordinator is usually enough. Above about 60 guests, or if you are bringing in outside vendors, or if the ceremony is on a different island from the accommodation, an independent planner earns their fee. Fiji's planners are listed in our supplier guide and include Rosie Holidays and Paradise Bride.
What the venue cannot do for you
The venue books the setting. It does not make you married. Fiji's marriage licence is issued by the Registrar-General through a Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry office, and the venue's coordinator will help but cannot substitute for the paperwork — you both have to attend a BDM office in person, with a passport carrying a valid entry permit.
There are two routes. A Notice of Intention to Marry costs FJ$16.88 and requires the notice to stand for 21 consecutive days. A Special Licence costs FJ$56.25 and exists, in the Registrar's own words, for "foreign visitors who are in the country for a short period of time" — which is the route almost every destination couple uses. Two witnesses with photo ID are required either way. Fees are from the Registrar-General's schedule dated 1 August 2025.
This is guideline only — confirm current requirements with the Registrar-General's Office, Ministry of Justice, before you travel. Our document checklist sets out exactly what to carry.
Your practical next step
Pick two settings and two regions, not one of each — Fiji's weather and transfer times reward a shortlist. Then take the published figures from the capacity chart, sanity-check the budget against what a Fiji wedding actually costs, and read the best time to get married in Fiji before you fix a date.
When you are ready to compare specific properties side by side, the venue directory lists every resort we hold data on, and Fiji wedding resorts A–Z profiles them one by one.
