Fiji's best garden ceremony sites are not the famous ones. The gardens that actually publish a guest number are Yatu Lau Lagoon at Pacific Harbour, at up to 250 guests, and the Sheraton Fiji's lawns and golf-club gardens ON Denarau Island. Everywhere else, the garden is real and the capacity is a conversation.

Why choose a garden over a beach?

Shade, wind and footing. Mature tropical planting drops the felt temperature of a midday ceremony noticeably, keeps a veil from behaving like a sail, and gives you level ground that chairs and heels can stand on. For guests in suits, for grandparents, and for anyone marrying between October and April, that combination is worth more than the open horizon.

What you give up is the photograph everyone expects. A Fijian garden reads as lush rather than iconic — frangipani, palms, heliconia, orchids — so the setting works hardest when the reception is in it too.

How we ranked these venues

No venue pays for placement. Four tests, in order:

  1. Is a garden capacity published — a number you can plan a list against?
  2. Is the garden coordinated, with a wedding coordinator on site rather than a venue you have to assemble?
  3. Is there a named wet-weather alternative with a seated figure?
  4. How easy is the guest journey — sealed road, boat or domestic flight?

Venues publishing numbers rank above venues that do not, even where the unpublished garden is the prettier one.

Sheraton Fiji: the garden precinct with real numbers

If your list runs past 100, the Sheraton Fiji is where Fiji's published garden and lawn capacity actually lives. The resort documents a Wedding Lawn at 70 banquet, a Croquet Lawn at 300 reception and 200 banquet, and the lawns and gardens of the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, whose Proshop lawn is listed at 2,000 reception and 800 banquet. Its Oceanside Wedding Chapel at Sandy Point takes up to 30.

Its three named wedding packages are written small — Love Is In The Air and Paradise for up to 30 guests, Fairytale for up to 10 — so a large garden reception is a tailored quote rather than a package.

Two honest caveats. First, the resort's own documents disagree with themselves in places: the Golden Ballroom reads as 300 banquet in the text and 400 in the capacity chart, and the Denarau Island Convention Centre appears as 1,600 guests in text, 1,150 banquet / 1,700 reception in the chart, and 2,000 in the space summary. Second, the catering rates shown — for example dinner at $220.00 per person — carry no currency code, so do not assume FJD. Get both confirmed in writing for your set-up and your date.

Yatu Lau Lagoon: the biggest published garden number in Fiji

Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort at Pacific Harbour publishes four distinctive venues, from a garden wedding to intimate private receptions, and a single overall figure: accommodating up to 250 guests. It does not break that figure down by space, and it publishes no package names or FJD prices, directing enquiries to its reservations team.

For a large Indo-Fijian or extended-family wedding where the whole party is driving down from Suva or over from Nadi, a 250-guest garden on a sealed road is a genuinely scarce thing in this country. Ask for the per-venue split before you commit — 250 across four spaces is not the same as 250 in the garden.

Garden of the Sleeping Giant: the only true garden venue, with the biggest asterisk

Every other entry on this list is a resort with a garden. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant, in the hills behind Nadi, is a garden full stop — an orchid collection where couples exchange vows "amidst blooming orchids and towering trees" with the Sleeping Giant range behind them, and which describes itself as suiting both intimate ceremonies and grand receptions.

It publishes no capacity, no hire fee and no vendor policy. Our directory record shows no wedding coordinator on site, and lists elopements and vow renewals as supported. Read that plainly: this is a setting, not a service. You will be bringing a planner, a caterer, chairs, a PA, a wet-weather plan and a transport plan, and the hire terms need to come out of a phone call.

That is not a criticism. It is the only way to get a Fijian wedding that looks nothing like a resort wedding, and for some couples that is the entire point. Start with the outside-vendor-friendly venues roundup and plan the supply chain first.

The small gardens: 30 guests and under

Three worth a shortlist.

  • The Terraces Fiji, ON Denarau Island, lists garden and poolside ceremony settings and a 30-guest maximum across 30 rooms. The shortest guest journey in the country, at a scale that stays manageable.
  • Lomani Island Resort & Spa, IN the Mamanucas, lists beach and garden settings, a coordinator on site, a buyout option and a wedding range of 2 to 67 guests — one of very few Fiji resorts publishing both ends of that range.
  • Wellesley Resort, ON the Coral Coast, offers vows on the pool deck or barefoot on the beach, with gardens listed as a third option, across 15 rooms with a coordinator on site. The resort also offers a Fijian choir with the ceremony, which should be booked and paid as the professional engagement it is — see booking Fijian performers respectfully.

Further afield, Namale Resort & Spa and Garden Island Resort both list garden ceremonies on Vanua Levu and Taveuni, and Toberua Island Resort lists beach and garden with a whole-island buyout across 17 rooms. All three need a domestic flight, which is a real imposition on a guest list and should be planned as a travel day, not a transfer.

So which garden should you choose?

The question to put to every one of them: what is the capacity of the garden itself, seated, with an aisle — and what is the named indoor space we move to at 4pm if it rains? A venue that can answer both in one email is a venue that has run this before.

Next: compare settings in the best deck wedding venues in Fiji and the best beach wedding venues in Fiji, pressure-test the rain plan in Fiji wedding venues with a wet-weather backup, and start from the hub at Fiji wedding venues. The precinct with the deepest garden inventory is Denarau Island.
