Poolside is the most underrated ceremony setting in Fiji, and the reason is unglamorous: the ground is hard, level and dry. Two resorts confirm a poolside ceremony in their own words — Likuliku Lagoon Resort beside its horizon-edge pool and Wellesley Resort on its pool deck above the Pacific. Five more are recorded with the setting.
How we ranked these
- Does the resort confirm a poolside ceremony in its own published material, or is it only recorded in our directory?
- What capacity is published for the pool deck?
- Is the pool deck a defined event space, or a working swimming pool with chairs put out?
- How short is the wet-weather move from the deck to a roof?
- Is the pool adults-only or family? This changes the day more than anything else on the list.
No ranking here reflects advertising, promotion tier or commercial relationship. Where nothing is published, we say so.

1. Likuliku Lagoon Resort — the horizon-edge pool
The only Fijian resort that names a specific pool as a ceremony setting rather than just "poolside." Its weddings page offers four options: the beach at sunset, beside the magnificent horizon-edge pool, the deck of an over-water bure, and its own Mociu private island.
Adults-only, 45 bures on Malolo Island, ten of them over water. Two published facts to plan around: weddings are free between November and March, subject to conditions, and ceremonies are not held on Sundays — a vow renewal can be, with a celebrant only.
A horizon-edge pool is the one case where the pool genuinely improves the photograph rather than merely holding the chairs: the water line runs into the lagoon behind it. No capacity is published, and on a five-star adults-only island it will be a small number. Pricing comes from the coordinator at the resort rather than the website.
Choose it if the pool is the picture and your party is small and adult.
2. Wellesley Resort — the pool deck above the Pacific
Fifteen rooms on the Coral Coast, recorded as adults-only, and refreshingly specific about what it offers. The resort describes a ceremony on "our fabulous pool deck overlooking the Pacific Ocean," with a Fijian choir, and lists the alternatives as gardens, pool deck and beachside — the beach option being a barefoot sunset ceremony on "our white sandy beach."
It publishes no capacity, no package names and no prices, telling couples instead to "select the ceremony package and menu option that most suits your needs." With fifteen rooms and Pool Villas with private plunge pools, the scale answers itself: this is a small wedding venue, and the pool deck is a real deck with an ocean behind it rather than a courtyard.
Choose it if you want an intimate adults-only pool-deck ceremony on the mainland, within driving distance of Nadi rather than on a boat.
3–7. Recorded, not confirmed
Five properties carry a poolside setting in our directory without publishing the detail themselves.
Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa near Savusavu is the most capable: 50 rooms across 160 acres, with an adults' pool and a children's pool — which matters, because it means a poolside ceremony need not happen next to a kids' club. Recorded for weddings up to around 120 guests across the property, with poolside among five settings. Its own wedding pages publish no settings or prices, only that "our Fijian weddings are not only internationally recognized but also legally binding."
Malolo Island Resort has 46 rooms in the Mamanucas with beach, garden and poolside settings and an on-site coordinator. It is explicitly family-friendly with a kids' club — see the pool-traffic question below.
The Terraces Fiji is the outlier and the interesting one: a 30-apartment complex next to Port Denarau Marina, recorded as a wedding venue in its own right with poolside and garden settings and a published maximum of 30 guests. Its site confirms "two packages to choose from" but names neither and prices neither. A self-contained apartment complex beside the marina is a genuinely sensible base for a 30-person wedding where everyone wants their own kitchen — confirm the poolside setting directly, since the site does not state it.
Garden Island Resort has 30 rooms on Taveuni with beach, poolside and garden settings. Barefoot Kuata Island Resort has 25 rooms in the Yasawas with beach and poolside, and is family-friendly.
For all five, ask for a photograph of the pool deck set for a ceremony. That single request separates a genuine event space from a hopeful entry in a brochure.
The biggest poolside capacity in the country is in Suva
If you want numbers rather than a lagoon, the largest published poolside figure we hold is not at a resort at all.
Holiday Inn Suva on Victoria Parade publishes a poolside pavilion accommodating up to 350 delegates, alongside three glass-walled meeting rooms, waterfront Pizza Deck dining and wedding facilities. Treat 350 as a conference figure, not a seated-wedding one — but it is an order of magnitude above anything a Mamanuca pool deck will take, and it is in a city with a registry, an airport and hotels for the overflow.
Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island is the near-miss worth knowing about: four interconnecting lagoon swimming pools including an adults-only pool, a swim-up pool bar, 270 rooms and the Captain's Ballroom seating up to around 170. It is described as a popular setting for beachfront weddings, and no poolside ceremony is published — but four pools and an indoor ballroom 170 seats strong is an obvious conversation to have.
Why poolside beats the beach more often than people expect
The beach is the default and the pool deck is frequently the better room. Six reasons:
- Hard, level ground. Chairs do not sink, an aisle runner lies flat, heels work, and a wheelchair or a walking frame can actually get there. This is the single strongest argument, and it is covered further in bringing elderly or less mobile guests to Fiji.
- A shorter wet-weather move. Pool decks sit next to bars, restaurants and function rooms. Your contingency is thirty metres away, not across the resort. See your Fiji wedding wet-weather plan.
- Defined edges. A pool deck has a measurable footprint, so capacity conversations are concrete in a way "the beach in front of the resort" never is.
- Power and sound are already there. Beach ceremonies need cable runs or batteries. Pool decks usually have outlets and often a built-in system.
- Shade. Umbrellas, cabanas and roof overhangs are already in place for an afternoon ceremony.
- No tide. The water is exactly where it was when you looked at the photograph.
What you lose is sand underfoot and the uninterrupted horizon. That is a real loss. It is not always the bigger one.
The one question nobody publishes an answer to
Will there be other guests in the pool?
No Fijian resort publishes a policy on this, and at a family property the pool is the busiest and loudest place on site. A ceremony beside an open pool at four in the afternoon can mean children on inflatables twelve metres behind the celebrant.
Ask, in writing:
- Is the pool itself closed to other guests during the ceremony, or only the deck?
- For how long before and after?
- Does exclusive use of the pool area cost extra, and how much?
- Is the swim-up or pool bar closed, and where do its customers go?
- What is the fallback room, and what does it seat?
Adults-only properties sidestep most of this, which is part of why Likuliku and Wellesley rank first and second. Koro Sun's separate adults' and children's pools achieve much the same thing by design.
The verdict
For the best-looking poolside ceremony: Likuliku's horizon-edge pool, if you are two to a dozen adults.
For an intimate adults-only pool deck on the mainland: Wellesley Resort on the Coral Coast.
For 30 guests with self-contained accommodation: The Terraces Fiji at Port Denarau — confirm the poolside setting first.
For real numbers: Holiday Inn Suva's poolside pavilion, published at up to 350, with the usual caveat that it is a delegate figure.
For a family wedding: Koro Sun, because separate adults' and children's pools is the only published arrangement in Fiji that actually solves the pool-traffic problem.
