Fiji's lawn wedding venues are the only outdoor settings in the country with properly published capacities. The Sheraton Fiji alone documents a Wedding Lawn at 70 banquet, a Croquet Lawn at 300 reception, and a golf-club lawn at 800 banquet. If your list is large and you want a number before you enquire, the lawn is where to look.

Why a lawn, and why the marquee changes everything

A lawn does two things sand cannot. It gives chairs a flat base and heels somewhere to stand, and it takes a structure — a marquee, a stage, a dance floor, a lighting rig. That second point is what makes lawns the default for any Fijian wedding over about 60 guests, because the reception has to sit somewhere the ground can carry it.

The trade is that the picture is less distinctive. A lawn fringed with palms reads as a resort, not as Fiji. So the lawn tends to be the right answer when the ceremony is on the beach or in a chapel and the lawn is where the night happens.

How we ranked these venues

No venue pays for placement. Four tests, in order:

  1. Is a lawn capacity published — reception or banquet, by named space?
  2. Will the lawn take a marquee and a reception, not just a ceremony?
  3. Is there a named indoor alternative with a seated figure?
  4. How easy is the guest journey — road, boat or domestic flight?

Sheraton Fiji: three lawns, three very different weddings

Nowhere else in Fiji documents outdoor capacity like this, and the three lawns are not variations on a theme — they are three different events.

  • Wedding Lawn — 70 banquet. A beachfront lawn, and the one the resort's own packages are written around. Its Love Is In The Air and Paradise packages are both for up to 30 guests and offer a choice of the chapel or the beachfront lawn; Fairytale is for up to 10.
  • Croquet Lawn — 300 reception / 200 banquet. The step up, and the realistic ceiling for a large wedding inside the resort grounds.
  • Denarau Golf & Racquet Club, Proshop lawn — 2,000 reception / 800 banquet, with the 15th Hole Golf Course listed at 700 reception / 500 banquet. These are conference-scale spaces being made available for weddings, which is exactly why they are worth knowing about if you have an extended family of 300.

For comparison, the resort publishes Sandy Point at 1,500 reception / 600 banquet and its Oceanside Wedding Chapel at up to 30, with Sheraton Main Beach at 500 reception but only 60 banquet — a useful illustration of how much a seated dinner costs you in usable space.

Two honest flags. The Golden Ballroom is given as 300 banquet in the text and 400 in the capacity chart, and the Denarau Island Convention Centre appears variously as 1,600 guests, 1,150 banquet / 1,700 reception and 2,000. And the per-person catering figures published — for instance dinner at $220.00 — carry no currency code, so do not budget them as FJD until someone confirms it in writing.

Musket Cove: the only island lawn with a published number

Coral Cay Island is described by Musket Cove as "an open plan lawned area fringed with coconut trees" with ocean views, published at a maximum of 100 guests — the same figure as its beach, and above its hilltop Island Chapel at 80.

For a 100-guest wedding on a lawn on a Mamanuca island, with a capacity you can plan against before you enquire, there is currently no alternative in Fiji. The cost is the transfer: boat from Denarau, which for 100 guests is a logistics exercise in itself. See the Mamanuca and Yasawa ferry timetable problem before you set a ceremony time.

Radisson Blu: two named lawns and the clearest rain plan

The Radisson Blu publishes Vei Domoni Lawn and Waterfall Lawn as outdoor ceremony and reception sites, alongside its Ocean Deck at up to 60 banquet. Neither lawn carries a figure, which is the gap here.

What it does publish is the alternative: the Ballroom seats up to 100 and is named explicitly as the wet-weather venue for the outdoor spaces. Its packages — Blu Lomani for the couple, Blu Denarau for 20, Blu Fiji for 50 with additional guest charges — give you the scale the property is built for.

InterContinental Fiji, The Naviti, Yatule, Gecko's

  • InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa offers a manicured lawn above Natadola Bay, a glass-walled Loloma wedding pavilion, a beachfront wedding chapel and the Natadola Ballroom. Its published guest numbers sit on the packages rather than the spaces: Nuku Vulavula at 30 reception guests and Yalayala at 50, both set under the stars at Natadola, plus a Navo package taking exclusive use of the Navo Signature Restaurant. No prices are published.
  • The Naviti Resort lists beach, lawn, garden and deck settings with a 100-guest wedding maximum and a coordinator on site — one of the more useful mid-size options on a sealed road.
  • Yatule Resort & Spa lists beach, lawn and chapel with a 30-guest maximum, a chapel on site, and elopements and vow renewals supported across 36 rooms.
  • Gecko's Resort is the outlier: a lawn is its only listed ceremony setting, with a private buyout available across 28 rooms. If you want a small lawn wedding with the whole property to yourselves, that combination is unusual and worth a call.

Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort and Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa both list lawn settings in our directory records; Outrigger also has a chapel and a coordinator on site, and the Hilton publishes a ballroom maximum of 100 and garden or beachfront receptions. Neither publishes a lawn figure.

The marquee questions nobody publishes

If the lawn is carrying your reception, these four decide whether the quote you get is the quote you pay.

  1. Pegged or ballasted? Irrigation lines, services and turf warranties often mean no pegs, which means concrete or water ballast — a different hire item, a different price, and a different look.
  2. Where is the power? Ask for the distance to a usable supply and whether it is single or three-phase. A generator is a legitimate answer; discovering you need one on build day is not. See power reliability and generator backup.
  3. Can irrigation be switched off, and from when? A sprinkler cycle at 5am on build day has ruined more marquee floors than rain has.
  4. What is the access for the build? A truck needs a route to the lawn. If the only path is through the pool deck, the marquee is smaller than you think.

Add one more for Fiji specifically: who decides the weather call, and when? Get the cut-off hour in writing, because a lawn that is dry at 2pm can still be unusable at 4pm.

The verdict

Next: compare settings in the best garden wedding venues in Fiji, the best deck wedding venues in Fiji and the best hilltop wedding venues in Fiji; cross-check numbers in the Fiji wedding venue capacity chart; and start from the hub at Fiji wedding venues. The precinct with the deepest published lawn capacity is Denarau Island.
