A micro-wedding in Fiji is 10 to 30 guests, and it is the band where the maths turns in your favour: big enough to have the people who matter, small enough that several resorts will let you buy the whole island. Published packages in this range run from around FJ$7,200 to FJ$15,500, and the step up at 30 guests is where costs jump sharply.

That 30-guest boundary is not soft. It is written into the packages.

What counts as a micro-wedding in Fiji?

The resorts have drawn the line for you, and the clearest example is Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort on the Coral Coast. Its Intimate package runs from a minimum of 10 people to a maximum of 29 guests. Its Dream package starts at a minimum of 30 and runs to 100.

Twenty-nine and thirty are different weddings, priced differently, in different rooms. If your list is hovering at 31, it is worth knowing that the two people tipping you over are costing more than their two heads.

What do micro-wedding packages actually cost?

These are the venues publishing a price against a guest number inside the band. Everything below comes from the venue's own website.

Read the accommodation column before the price column. Toberua's figure includes five nights and is quoted in New Zealand dollars; Outrigger's includes four nights for the couple only. These are not like-for-like numbers and no comparison table, including this one, makes them so. What the table does show reliably is the shape — a Coral Coast micro-wedding sits well below an island one, and Momi Bay prices at a different tier again.

Above the package headcount, published per-head rates are: Outrigger FJ$170 (Intimate) and FJ$180 (Dream), Yatule FJ$215 adult and FJ$99 child, InterContinental Fiji FJ$353 adult and FJ$204 child under 12.

Why does 10 to 30 guests work so well in Fiji?

Four reasons, and only one of them is money.

You can buy the island. This is the genuinely under-appreciated one. At 30 guests, whole-property exclusivity moves from fantasy to a line item at several small resorts. Toberua Island Resort publishes a buyout at NZ$19,800 per night covering up to 36 adults across 16 oceanfront bures, with full catering. Navutu Stars charters its whole 10-bure island for up to 25 guests, with a four-night minimum. Sau Bay Resort & Spa publishes that you can take the entire resort for a wedding party of up to 20. Tropica Island Resort offers full resort charters and caps weddings at 60.

Nobody at 80 guests gets this. At 25, you do — and a private island for two nights changes the day far more than an extra twenty guests would.

The transfer problem shrinks. Moving 100 people to an island is a logistics exercise. Moving 20 is a boat. Mamanuca Express and SeaFiji run private charters from Port Denarau around the clock, and at this size a private transfer is affordable rather than aspirational.

Venue choice widens, not narrows. The Fiji properties with the best settings are mostly small. Taveuni Palms Resort has two villas. The Remote Resort has eight. Navutu Stars has ten. Matangi Private Island Resort has twelve. None of them can host 80 people; all of them can host 20 beautifully.

Everyone actually gets a conversation. The thing couples say afterwards, almost without exception.

Two published policies worth catching early. Matamanoa Island Resort is adults-only and states that children under 16 are not permitted as wedding guests unless there is an island buyout — which, at micro-wedding scale, is an achievable workaround rather than a wall. And Nanuku Resort at Pacific Harbour publishes a range of 6 to 120 guests, the lowest published minimum we found at a full-service resort, plus a two-acre private island of its own.

What does a micro-wedding actually buy you?

Compared with a full wedding, the savings are not proportional — they are better than proportional in some lines and worse in others.

Better than proportional: catering, beverages, venue hire, and anything charged per head. Exclusivity, which becomes reachable. Transfers, which become a charter rather than an operation.

Not proportional: the ceremony itself. A celebrant, a licence, a photographer and flowers cost roughly the same for 20 guests as for 80. That is why the per-guest cost of a micro-wedding looks high — the fixed costs are spread across fewer people.

Actively more expensive: any guest who has to be accommodated on a small island at resort rates, and any outside supplier who has to stay the night. Plantation Island Resort publishes FJ$350 per person for an outside photographer staying for extended coverage; on a small island there is no cheaper bed.

Three things to settle before you commit

Where does the reception happen if it rains? Micro-weddings are often set up somewhere lovely and small with no obvious indoor twin. Get the alternative named in the contract. The Remote Resort publishes that it can move the date with 24 hours' notice or set up on the covered Main Pavilion deck — that is the standard to ask for.

Does the package require all guests to stay on site? Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa publishes that all guests must be staying at the resort for its Paradise package to be valid. At 30 guests that is an accommodation commitment, not a detail.

What happens at 31? Ask now, in writing. The jump from Outrigger's Intimate to its Dream package is not a per-head increment — it is a different package with a different price and a different room.

The verdict

If your list is naturally 10 to 30, do not treat it as a compromise between an elopement and a "real" wedding. It is the band Fiji is best set up for, and the only one where a private island is a realistic line in the budget.

If you are below 10, look at Fiji Wedding Venues for Just The Two Of You and Fiji Elopement Packages Compared. If you are above 30, Fiji Wedding Venues for 100 Guests and the Fiji Wedding Venue Capacity Chart are the next reads. And Elopement vs Micro-Wedding vs Full Wedding in Fiji compares all three head to head.
