A Fiji wedding guest is buying five things: flights, transfers, accommodation, food and activities, and the money costs that sit on top — tax, card surcharge and the exchange rate. Three of those five are publicly priced in Fiji. This page collects every figure we could verify from a named source, so the sheet you forward is sourced rather than guessed.
Currency conversions throughout use Reserve Bank of Fiji indicative rates for 11 September 2026: FJ$1 = NZ$0.7752 = A$0.6278 = US$0.4493. In the other direction, NZ$1 is about FJ$1.29 and A$1 is about FJ$1.59. The Reserve Bank states its published rates are indicative only; your bank's rate will differ.
What belongs on a guest cost sheet?
Eleven lines. The middle column is the one that matters, because it tells your guests which figures they can look up themselves and which they will have to request.
| Line | Who charges it | Publicly priced? |
|---|---|---|
| International airfare | Airline | No — search-dependent |
| Airport departure tax | Statutory, collected in the ticket | Yes |
| Airport transfer to the resort | Coach, shuttle or taxi operator | Yes, for several operators |
| Boat or air transfer to an island | Ferry, catamaran, seaplane, helicopter | Yes, for several operators |
| Accommodation, per night | Resort | Rarely |
| Meal plan, where one is compulsory | Resort | Rarely |
| Meals and drinks not on a plan | Resort and restaurants | Rarely |
| Activities on the free days | Tour operators | Yes, for many |
| Gift | You | n/a |
| Travel insurance | Insurer | Yes, per quote |
| Tax, card surcharge and FX spread | Statutory and merchant | Yes |
Two things follow from that column. Transfers and activities are where you can hand guests exact numbers, which is disproportionately reassuring. Accommodation is where you cannot, which is why a wedding invitation should carry two or three named properties at different price points rather than a single "from" figure.
What will the flights cost?
No airline flying to Nadi publishes a fixed fare for these routes, so any per-seat number in your covering note has to come from a live search on the day you write it. What is fixed is the shape of the market.
Auckland is served non-stop by both Fiji Airways and Air New Zealand; Air New Zealand puts the flight at "around three hours". Wellington and Christchurch are served non-stop by Fiji Airways only, and both are a little under four hours. Sydney has the widest choice — Fiji Airways, Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin Australia — at roughly four and a quarter hours. Melbourne is served by Fiji Airways, Jetstar and Virgin Australia, and Brisbane by Fiji Airways and Virgin Australia. Durations other than Auckland's are from published schedule data rather than an airline statement, so treat them as indicative.
If more than ten guests are travelling on the same service, ask about a group booking. Fiji Airways' group booking page is titled for "10 or more passengers", which is a far lower threshold than most couples assume — a family contingent can qualify. The deposit terms, name-change rules and payment deadlines are not published; you have to ask the group desk.
Departure tax is FJ$140 per departing passenger, increased from FJ$125 with effect from 1 January 2024 by the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service. It is collected through the airline ticket rather than paid at the airport, and the regulations require it to be shown on the ticket. Transit passengers departing within 96 hours of arrival, and children under 12, are exempt. Note that the consolidated Airport Departure Tax Act still published online shows FJ$100; that figure is superseded.
On baggage, Fiji Airways announced an increase in economy checked allowance from 23kg to 30kg for tickets bought on or after 5 March 2020. That release is now some years old and we could not confirm it against the airline's current site, so tell guests to check their own booking rather than quoting a number at them — particularly anyone bringing a dress.
What do transfers actually cost?
This is the block where Fiji is unusually transparent, and where your sheet can be exact.
By road from Nadi International
| Operator | Basis | Destination | Published price (FJD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 1–4 people | Denarau Island | 50 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 5–9 | Denarau Island | 95 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 14–22 | Denarau Island | 220 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 1–4 | Coral Coast (Warwick, Naviti, Wellesley, Mango Bay zone) | 190 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 14–22 | Coral Coast (same zone) | 800 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 1–4 | Pacific Harbour | 250 |
| Xplore Fiji | Per vehicle, 1–4 | Suva | 320 |
| Airport Shuttle Fiji | Per person, one way | Denarau Island | 34 |
| Airport Shuttle Fiji | Per person, one way | Coral Coast hotels | 70 |
| Airport Shuttle Fiji | Per person, one way | Sigatoka hotels | 66 |
| South Sea Cruises coach | Per adult, one way | Port Denarau | 11 |
Airport Shuttle Fiji charges children 15 and under at 75 per cent of the adult rate, carries infants under two free, and adds FJ$20 per baby seat and FJ$20 per surfboard per transfer. Xplore Fiji's per-vehicle basis is the one to model for a wedding party: twenty-two guests to the Coral Coast is a single published number rather than twenty-two fares.
Tourism Fiji states that metered taxis on LT plates carry a base rate of FJ$2.50 and that fares start around FJ$7.00 for short trips around Nadi, Denarau and Lautoka, and that the Queen's Highway buses cost up to about FJ$20 one way. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant publishes indicative private taxi costs of FJ$13–16 from Nadi Airport and FJ$50–65 from Denarau Island, which is one of the few operator-published taxi benchmarks in the country.
On drive times, Tourism Fiji gives Denarau Island as "a short 20-minute drive from Nadi Airport" and Pacific Harbour as "two and a half hours' drive from Nadi". It publishes no drive time for the Coral Coast or Suva that we could verify, and no kilometre distances at all, so phrase those two as approximate and let the resort confirm.
By boat or air
| Operator | Route | Published price |
|---|---|---|
| South Sea Cats | Nadi Airport to Mana Island Resort | FJ$278 adult / FJ$181 child |
| South Sea Cats | Port Denarau to Mana Island Resort | FJ$229 adult / FJ$149 child |
| South Sea Cats | Nadi Airport to Tokoriki and Matamanoa | FJ$299 adult / FJ$194 child |
| Island Hoppers | Nadi to Denarau, helicopter | FJ$400 one way / FJ$800 return |
| Island Hoppers | Nadi to the nearer Mamanucas, helicopter | FJ$685 one way / FJ$1,365 return |
| Island Hoppers | Nadi to the nearer Yasawas, helicopter | FJ$885 one way / FJ$1,600 return |
| Yasawa Flyer "Bula Pass" | Port Denarau coach plus vessel transfers, 5 days | US$294 per person |
| Yasawa Flyer "Bula Pass" | Same, 10 days | US$350 per person |
South Sea Cats rates are published as valid until 31 March 2027; the Bula Pass table is published for travel from 1 September 2026 to 31 March 2027. Island Hoppers requires a minimum of two passengers and allows 15kg per person, and individual resorts sometimes add a fuel surcharge on top — Likuliku Lagoon Resort publishes FJ$25 per person each way on helicopter transfers and FJ$10 per adult per sector on catamaran transfers. Pacific Island Air ceased operations on 31 January 2025 and should be removed from any older list you are working from.
The honest line for your guests: an island wedding adds a per-person, per-leg transfer cost that a mainland wedding does not. For a couple travelling to the Mamanucas that is a few hundred Fiji dollars; IN the Yasawas it becomes a travel day in each direction as well.
What will a room cost?
Almost no Fiji resort publishes a nightly rate in plain text on its own website. That is a commercial choice, not an oversight, and it means you cannot build a guest accommodation estimate from public information for most of the market.
The clearest exception we found is Mantaray Island Resort IN the Yasawas, which publishes a full rate card: from FJ$73 per night for a dorm bed, FJ$207 for a tree house bure, FJ$428 for a seaside bure, FJ$537 for a beachfront villa and FJ$788 for a sunrise beachfront villa, alongside a 3.5 per cent card surcharge and a policy of full payment 30 days before arrival. It does not publish meal plan prices, which matters on an island where eating elsewhere is not an option.
At the other end, Toberua Island Resort publishes whole-island rental "from NZ$19,800 per night, including full meal catering for up to 36 adults" — one of the very few buyout figures published anywhere in Fiji, and quoted in New Zealand dollars, which makes it directly useful to a New Zealand wedding party doing the arithmetic on exclusivity.
Everywhere else, ask the property for a guest rate with a code, and ask whether a meal plan is compulsory. On an island it usually is, and it is the line guests most often forget.
What do tax, cards and the exchange rate add?
More than most guests expect, and the position changed very recently.
| Charge | Rate | Effective |
|---|---|---|
| VAT | 12.5% | Reduced from 15% on 1 August 2025 |
| Tourism Services Tax | 5% | 1 September 2026 to 31 August 2027, operators above FJ$2m turnover |
| Card surcharge | Commonly 2.5%–3.5% | Merchant-set; no official guidance published |
| Airport departure tax | FJ$140 | From 1 January 2024, collected in the airfare |
The Tourism Services Tax is the new one, and it has a transition rule worth passing on verbatim. The Ministry of Finance confirmed on 25 August 2026 that bookings made before 1 September 2026 are not subject to the tax, even where the service is delivered after that date. A guest who booked in August pays VAT only; a guest who books this week may pay both. If your guests are booking in waves, that is a real difference between them, and worth saying out loud rather than letting them discover it on a folio.
On cards, no Fijian government or tourism authority publishes guidance on surcharging. What operators publish for themselves is consistent enough to be useful: Mantaray Island Resort 3.5 per cent, Likuliku Lagoon Resort 2.5 per cent, the Yasawa Flyer passes 2.5 to 3 per cent on international cards. Tell guests to expect a surcharge of roughly that order and to carry an alternative.
The Tourist VAT Refund Scheme exists but will not help most wedding guests: it requires FJ$500 of cumulative spend at approved retailers on non-consumable goods, and explicitly excludes accommodation, food, meals and car rental.
What should guests budget for the free days?
The activity operators are far better at publishing prices than the resorts are, which makes this the easiest block to hand over complete.
| Activity | Published price |
|---|---|
| Malamala Beach Club, day pass | FJ$215 full day, FJ$185 half day |
| Cloud 9, return boat transfer | FJ$239, including FJ$60 of food and drink credit |
| ZIP Fiji, Nadi or Pacific Harbour zipline | FJ$245 per person |
| Garden of the Sleeping Giant | FJ$35 adult, FJ$15 child 6–15, FJ$85 family, VAT included |
| Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park | FJ$10 adult, FJ$7 international student |
| Fiji Museum, Suva | FJ$20 overseas adult, FJ$30 with a guided tour |
| Sabeto hot springs and mud pool, entry | FJ$30 |
| Lavena Coastal Walk, Taveuni | FJ$35 per person, cash only |
Malamala's rates are published as valid until 31 March 2027. Kula Wild Adventure Park publishes opening hours but no admission price on its own site, which is a useful reminder that "we couldn't find a price" and "there isn't one" are different statements.
Does a guest need travel insurance?
Both governments your guests are most likely to be travelling from say yes, in unusually direct language.
New Zealand's SafeTravel advises New Zealanders in Fiji "to have a comprehensive travel insurance policy in place that includes provision for medical evacuation by air", and to check that it covers planned activities such as boating and diving. Australia's Smartraveller is blunter: "Get comprehensive travel insurance before you leave. It must cover all medical costs overseas, including evacuation", and "If you can't afford travel insurance, you shouldn't travel." It adds that the Australian Government will not pay those costs and that travellers without insurance "might have to pay thousands of dollars up front for medical care".
Neither government publishes a dollar figure for a medical evacuation from Fiji, so do not put one in your note. Say that evacuation is the reason the cover exists and let guests get their own quote.
Guideline only. Tax rates, statutory charges and published fares change. Confirm current figures with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service, the operator and your own airline before you send anything. Last reviewed 11 September 2026.
The sheet itself
Send it as a short table with a per-person total at the bottom and the date you built it. Something like this, with your own figures in the blank column:
| Line | Source | Your figure |
|---|---|---|
| Return airfare from [city] | Live search, dated | |
| Airport transfer, return | Operator rate card | |
| Island transfer, return, if applicable | Operator rate card | |
| Accommodation, [n] nights | Property, quoted rate | |
| Meal plan, if compulsory | Property | |
| Meals and drinks, [n] days | Estimate | |
| One activity day | Operator price | |
| Travel insurance | Own quote | |
| Gift | Guest's choice | |
| Per person total |
Three rules make it land well. Give a range, not a number — two accommodation tiers at least. Date every figure, including the exchange rate. And say plainly that nothing on the optional list is expected, because the single most common regret in destination wedding planning is guests who felt obliged to buy the activity day.
The verdict
- Transfers and activities are exactly knowable. Put real published figures in, with the operator named.
- Airfares and room rates are not. Give guests the search, the dates and two named properties rather than a false average.
- Tax has changed this month. Anyone booking from 1 September 2026 may carry a 5 per cent Tourism Services Tax that earlier bookers do not.
- Send it early. The cost of a destination wedding falls mostly on the guests, and long notice is the only thing that makes that fair.
Next step: settle the property and the dates, then build the sheet from the operator rate cards above. The Fiji wedding guest playbook covers the rest of what guests need to know, what a Fiji wedding actually costs covers your side of the same budget, Fiji's islands and regions explains how long each transfer really takes, and practical Fiji covers money, health and connectivity on the ground.
