From Nadi International Airport your guests have five realistic ways to reach the wedding: shared coach, private car, boat from Port Denarau, seaplane or helicopter. Denarau is about 10 kilometres and 15 to 20 minutes away. The islands are a boat or an aircraft, and the last departure of the day is the thing that ruins arrival plans.

Wedding guests are not delegates. They arrive on different flights over three days, some with children, some elderly, some who have never been to the Pacific and will not read the transfer instructions you send them. The job is to make the trip from the arrivals hall to the resort impossible to get wrong.

This is the mode-by-mode version. For the wider guest picture, start at the Fiji wedding guest playbook.

Coach, shuttle and private car

Airport Shuttle Fiji, operated by Tourist Transport Fiji, runs a 24-hour service meeting all international arrivals and departures at Nadi, covering Nadi, Denarau Island, Port Denarau Marina, the Coral Coast, Natadola Bay and Lautoka. It states the Denarau resorts are around ten kilometres from the airport.

Fiji VIP Transfers, powered by Rosie Holidays, publishes three tiers: a private premium service in four-seat electric vehicles with WiFi, a private standard service in air-conditioned vehicles seating four to fifteen, and a shared 37-seat coach. Vehicles are kept no older than four years.

TEWAKA Fiji has a meet-and-greet arrivals lounge at the airport, runs sedans through to 53-seat deluxe coaches, and handles wedding transport and charters for groups of fifteen or more.

Tourist Transport Fiji is the largest of the ground handlers, with more than 35 years of operation, 17 and 30-seat vehicles, private cars and — importantly for some guest lists — wheelchair-accessible transport.

Pehicle Tours Fiji runs sedans to 49-seat coaches, all with seatbelts, and offers child fares and baby seats. Xplore Fiji provides complimentary baby seats on request. Go Local Fiji runs everything from Alphard and Prado vehicles to 15, 22 and 35-seat buses across Nadi, the Coral Coast, Lautoka and Suva.

For a wedding, the practical rule is: book private cars for anyone travelling with small children, anyone with mobility needs, and anyone arriving after dark. Put everyone else on a scheduled shuttle and tell them the resort name, not the wedding name.

Boats to the Mamanucas and Yasawas

Most island resort transfers leave from Port Denarau Marina, which is itself a 20-minute drive from the airport. Budget the road leg and the boat leg separately — guests consistently forget the first one.

Scheduled ferry. The Yasawa Flyer, run by Yasawa Adventures in conjunction with South Sea Cruises, is a high-speed catamaran departing Port Denarau daily and running through the Mamanuca and Yasawa chains via South Sea Island, with numbered transfer routes connecting a long list of island resorts. It is the cheapest way to move a guest list to the islands. Departure and arrival times change with the published timetable, so take the current one from the operator rather than from any guide.

Fast water taxi. Mamanuca Express operates a fleet of eight vessels around the clock from Port Denarau with scheduled transfers and private charters. SeaFiji runs its Link and Direct services from Denarau to resort islands including Mana, Beachcomber, Yasawa and Likuliku, plus private charters and airport pickups.

Private charter. Rare Fiji Adventures runs private speedboat transfers from Naisoso Jetty near Nadi to Mamanuca resorts, taking up to eight passengers per boat with flexible departure times and coordinated ground transfers. Manu Charters operates a yacht carrying up to nine guests from Denarau Marina for one-way or return island transfers. Both suit a bridal party or a small family group rather than a whole guest list.

The last-boat problem

This is the single biggest cause of wedding arrival disasters in Fiji, and it is entirely avoidable.

Scheduled island transfers run on a daily timetable with a final departure. A guest whose flight lands at Nadi in the late afternoon, clears immigration and baggage, and then drives to Port Denarau may arrive at the marina after the last boat has gone. They then need an overnight in Nadi and a morning transfer, which means they miss the welcome dinner and possibly the rehearsal.

Three defences:

  1. Publish a cut-off arrival time in your guest information: any flight landing after X should book a Nadi overnight. Get X from the transfer operator, in writing, for your actual dates.
  2. Hold a contingency room block in Nadi. Fiji Gateway Hotel, Tanoa International Hotel and Tokatoka Resort Hotel all sit close to the airport for exactly this purpose.
  3. Know the private-charter number. A private boat can run later than the scheduled service. It costs more, and on the night before a wedding that is usually the right trade.

Seaplane and helicopter

Air transfers turn a long boat day into twenty minutes, which is why couples put the bridal party on them and why the budget then becomes interesting.

Island Hoppers Fiji publishes helicopter transfer pricing in three distance bands each for the Mamanucas, the Coral Coast and the Yasawas, plus Pacific Harbour and Rakiraki. Published one-way fares range from FJ$400 for Nadi to Denarau up to FJ$2,388 for the mainland to remote Viwa, with returns typically about double the one-way fare. A minimum of two persons is required to confirm a booking, single bookings are available on request, and the baggage allowance is 15 kg per passenger. Air-conditioned courtesy transport is provided to and from the Denarau hotels. Prices as published by the operator, September 2026 — FJ$400 is roughly NZ$314 or A$253 at Reserve Bank of Fiji indicative rates of 25 September 2026.

Seaplanes serve the island resorts from Nadi through established operators including Turtle Airways and Pacific Island Air. Fares and schedules are not consistently published, so get a quote directly and confirm the last flight of the day.

The 15 kg baggage limit is the detail that trips people up. Guests flying long-haul with a 30 kg allowance cannot simply transfer it to a helicopter. Either warn them in advance or arrange for excess luggage to follow by boat.

Air transfers are weather-dependent and, as a practical matter, daylight operations. Island Hoppers does not publish operating hours, so confirm the last departure for your dates rather than assuming a late arrival can be rescued by air.

What to put in the guest pack

  • The resort's full name and the marina or airport counter to look for.
  • The transfer operator's name, booking reference and a phone number that works from a Fijian SIM.
  • The cut-off arrival time after which a Nadi overnight is required.
  • The baggage limit if any leg is by air.
  • A single named contact on your side for anyone who gets stuck.

A copy-and-paste version of all of this is in a guest FAQ you can put straight onto your wedding website, and the cost side for guests is in the Fiji wedding guest cost sheet you can forward.

The verdict

For a mainland wedding on Denarau Island or the Coral Coast, book a shared shuttle for most guests and private cars for the families and the elderly, and stop thinking about it. For an island wedding, the transfer is a genuine part of the programme: publish a cut-off time, hold contingency rooms in Nadi, and put only the people who need to be on time on an aircraft.
