Below are 25 questions your guests will ask, already answered, ready to paste into your wedding website. Every factual answer is sourced from a Fiji government department, Tourism Fiji or a national travel-health authority. Edit the bracketed bits, delete what does not apply, and stop answering the same email eleven times.

How do you use this?

Copy the questions and answers below into your wedding website's FAQ page. Replace anything in [square brackets] with your own detail. Two rules: keep the sources, because guests trust a linked answer more than a confident one, and re-check the immigration and tax answers before you publish, because those are the two that change.

Getting there and getting in

Do I need a visa for Fiji?

Most likely not. Citizens of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan and much of Europe are visa-exempt and are issued a visitor permit on arrival. The Fiji Immigration Department states the permit "may vary from several days up to a maximum of four months", and that all countries not on its exemption list must apply for a visa in advance. Check the current list at immigration.gov.fj — do not rely on what a friend was told last year.

How long does my passport need to be valid?

Fiji Immigration requires a passport "valid for more than six months". Check yours now, not the week before.

Do I need a return ticket?

Yes. Fiji Immigration lists a confirmed return ticket and proof of funds among the visitor permit requirements. A booking reference is not the same as a confirmed ticket.

Is there an arrival form?

Yes, and it is still paper. Fiji Revenue and Customs guidance describes a Fiji Passenger Arrival Card handed out by your airline, to be completed on both sides before you land. Fill it in on the plane; the queue is not the place.

Is there a departure tax?

Fiji charges an Airport Departure Tax, reported at FJ$200 since 1 August 2025, and it is normally included in the airfare rather than paid at the airport. Children under 12 are exempt under the Airport Departure Tax Act. Check your ticket breakdown if you want to be certain.

What can I bring in?

Fiji Revenue and Customs allows arriving passengers aged 18 and over spirits not exceeding 3 litres, or wine not exceeding 4.5 litres, or beer not exceeding 4.5 litres — combinable, not cumulative — plus tobacco products not exceeding 200 g. Other goods up to F$2,000 in value. Cash of FJ$10,000 or more must be declared. Chewing tobacco is prohibited. Declare all food, plant and animal products: every bag is X-rayed by biosecurity.

How long does it take to get from the airport to [venue]?

Airline and Tourism Fiji published guidance puts Denarau at about 14 km from Nadi International, roughly 20 to 30 minutes by car; Nadi town at about 10 km, around 20 minutes; the Coral Coast at about 100 km, two to two and a half hours; Pacific Harbour around two and a half hours; and Suva three to four hours by road. [We have arranged transfers / please book your own.]

How do I get to [venue] from the airport?

Yellow metered taxis wait outside the arrivals hall with a FJ$7.50 flag-fall, per Tourism Fiji. Private and shared transfers need to be booked at least 24 hours ahead. Rosie Holidays, Tourist Transport Fiji and Airport Shuttle Fiji all run scheduled airport work; the full list is in the transport directory. [Our transfer leaves at XX:XX.]

Money

Should I bring cash?

Some. Australian Government travel advice notes that not all retail outlets accept credit cards and those that do may charge a 2–5% fee, and that ATMs are common in urban areas and large resorts but scarce in villages and remote areas. Bring enough cash for the first day and for anywhere outside the resort.

Do I need to tip?

No. Tipping is not expected in Fiji. Many resorts run a staff Christmas fund box near reception, shared among all staff at year end — that is the local convention if you want to give something.

Can I claim tax back on purchases?

Possibly. Fiji operates a Tourist VAT Refund Scheme for non-residents on goods bought from approved retailers and taken out through Nadi, Nausori, Lautoka wharf or Suva wharf, with a minimum cumulative spend (FJ$500 in the guidance we could find). Goods must be unused and presented to Customs before departure; accommodation, meals, car hire, liquor and cigarettes are excluded. The published refund rate has not kept pace with Fiji's VAT changes, so confirm the current terms with Fiji Revenue and Customs at the airport rather than relying on older material.

How expensive is Fiji?

Depends entirely on where you eat. A resort dinner costs what a resort dinner costs anywhere; local restaurants and roadside food are considerably cheaper. Tourism Fiji notes that travel by bus anywhere between Nadi and Suva costs less than FJ$25. [We have put a rough cost sheet at (link).]

Health and safety

Do I need vaccinations?

No vaccination is a condition of entry for travellers arriving from most countries. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required for travellers over one year of age arriving from countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission. Routine travel vaccinations are a conversation to have with your doctor or a travel clinic — this is general information, not medical advice.

Can I drink the tap water?

Tourism Fiji's own answer is the honest one: in Nadi, Suva and Savusavu and at big resorts on the larger islands, tap water is treated and generally considered safe — but most resorts advise guests not to drink it, because visitors have not built up local immunity. Outer islands often rely on filtered rainwater or bore water, fine for showering but not always for drinking. Bottled water is the simple answer. After severe weather, boil for 5–10 minutes.

Are there mosquitoes?

Yes, and Fiji has periodic outbreaks of dengue, Zika and chikungunya. Bring repellent, use it around dawn and dusk, and see a doctor if you develop fever, rash, muscle pain or a severe headache. Fiji's Ministry of Health has previously advised avoiding aspirin and ibuprofen without medical advice during a dengue outbreak.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, and specifically insurance that covers medical evacuation by air. There is no reciprocal healthcare agreement between Fiji and the UK, Australia or New Zealand; hospitals usually ask for immediate payment, and serious cases are often evacuated. [We are not able to cover anyone's medical costs, so please do not travel uninsured.]

Practicalities

Will my phone work?

Fiji's two main networks are Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji. Fiji Airports states that both sell SIM cards from kiosks in the Nadi arrivals hall, that you need your passport to buy one, and that free wi-fi runs throughout the airport. Check roaming charges with your own provider before you leave.

Do I need a power adaptor?

Not if you are coming from Australia or New Zealand — Fiji uses 240V, 50Hz and the same Type I three-pin plug. Everyone else needs an adaptor.

Can I drive?

Fiji drives on the left. Australian travel advice states that an Australian licence is valid for the first six months after arrival, and UK guidance says a UK licence can be used. Roads outside towns are variable and driving at night outside urban areas is not recommended. Only use licensed taxis, identifiable by yellow registration plates.

What is the weather like in [month]?

Fiji's dry season runs May to October, with an average around 23–24°C and most days between 19 and 28°C. The wet season is November to April, warmer at 25–26°C average, with short afternoon downpours. The western side of the main island, where Nadi and the Coral Coast are, is meaningfully drier than Suva. Cyclone season officially runs November to April, with peak activity January to March.

When does it get dark?

Earlier than you think, and fast. Nadi's sunset ranges from about 5:44pm in June to about 6:44pm in December, and tropical twilight is short — roughly 22 minutes of usable light after sunset year-round. [Our ceremony starts at XX:XX for exactly this reason.]

What should I wear?

Resort casual for everything except the wedding itself. For any village visit, cover shoulders and knees, remove hats and sunglasses, and follow your host's lead — Fijian protocol and etiquette for visitors has the detail. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and something with sleeves for the evening.

The wedding

What is the dress code?

[Your answer. Be specific: "beach formal" means different things to different people. Mention footwear if the ceremony is on sand.]

Do I need to book the resort you are staying at?

[Your answer. If your package requires all guests to stay on property — several Fiji resorts do — say so here, in bold, at the top. Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa, for example, requires all wedding guests to be staying at the resort for its package to apply.]

Are children welcome?

[Your answer. Note that some Fiji resorts are adults-only, which may decide this for you.]

What is the plan if it rains?

[Your answer — and get one from your venue in writing before you publish this. "We'll see" is not a plan your guests will accept after a nine-hour flight.]

What else should I do while I am there?

[Your answer. Two or three suggestions beat twenty.]

What to change before you paste this

Three things. Replace every bracket. Delete the tax refund and departure tax answers if your guests are unlikely to care. And add one line at the top with a name and a mobile number that works in Fiji — the single most useful thing on any wedding website.
