Peninsula International Hotel has one function space: the Mokosoi Conference Room on the third floor, fully air-conditioned. The hotel's own website states it holds up to 80 people. MICE Fiji's directory record and the hotel's space entry both carry a lower figure of 40 to 50. Those numbers conflict, and this guide publishes both rather than picking one.
The hotel sits on the corner of McGregor Road and Pender Street in Suva, in The Domain precinct, with 100 guest rooms across four categories. It is a mid-range city hotel with a single meeting room — which makes it a straightforward venue to brief, and a straightforward one to rule out.
What conference space does Peninsula International Hotel have?
One room, named and described on the hotel's own site:
| Space | Floor | Stated capacity | Air conditioning | Natural light |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mokosoi Conference Room | Third | Up to 80 (hotel website); 40–50 (MICE Fiji directory and space record) | Yes | Not published |
The hotel describes the room as suiting "small to medium size conferences," seminars, workshops, meetings, training programmes and private family gatherings. It does not publish a floor area, a ceiling height, set-up-specific capacities for theatre, classroom, U-shape or boardroom, a pre-function area, or a breakout room. There is no second space, so there is no breakout room to publish.
Why the capacity figures conflict, and what to do about it. An "up to 80" figure on a hotel website is usually a theatre-style maximum with no tables; a 40 to 50 figure is usually what the same room seats for a classroom, U-shape or banquet set-up. Both can be true of one room. Until the hotel publishes a set-up-by-set-up chart, treat 80 as a standing or theatre ceiling and 50 as the working number for any session where delegates need a writing surface. Ask for the chart in writing before you contract.
What audiovisual equipment is available?
The hotel lists equipment available for hire: overhead projector, carousel slide projector, screen, whiteboard, TV, video set, and multimedia projector.
That list reads as though it has not been revised in some years — a carousel slide projector is a 35mm transparency device. It does not mean the hotel lacks working AV; it means the published list is not a reliable guide to what is currently in the building. Confirm the current inventory directly, and for anything beyond a laptop and a screen, budget for an external supplier. Suva has a working AV base, including Stage Tech Fiji and Audio Visual Logistics. Confirm the room's power supply and rigging points with the hotel before the supplier quotes.
Bandwidth is not published. For any session with a live stream, a hybrid audience or a cloud-based presentation, test the connection in the room itself on a weekday at the hour your session runs, and have a cellular backup.
What about catering and accommodation?
Food and beverage runs through the hotel's own outlets rather than a dedicated banquet operation.
- Hillcrest Restaurant (ground floor): a la carte Western, Asian and local dishes. Breakfast 7:00–10:00, lunch 12:00–14:00, dinner 18:00–22:00. Room service 07:00–21:30.
- Baka Lounge (ground floor): wines, spirits, cocktails and bar snacks. Monday to Friday 14:00–22:00; Saturday and Sunday 16:00–22:00.
- A bar, with hours not published.
The hotel publishes no conference day-delegate package, no per-head catering rate and no banquet menu. For a plated dinner or a cocktail function at any scale, the practical route is an off-site venue or an external caterer such as Paradiso or My Kai, both of which run their own Suva kitchens and cater off-site.
On rooms: 100 guest rooms in Superior Deluxe, Deluxe, Suite and Standard categories, described by the hotel as recently renovated. That is a usable in-house block for a meeting of this size, and it is the hotel's strongest argument — a 50-delegate meeting can sleep, meet and eat in one building.
How does it compare to other Suva conference venues?
This is where the Mokosoi room's size becomes the deciding fact. Capacities below are the largest published figure for each venue's principal space, from MICE Fiji's verified records.
| Venue | Principal space | Theatre | Banquet | Cocktail | Area |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Peninsula International Hotel | Mokosoi Conference Room | Up to 80 (see conflict above) | Not published; 50 on directory record | Not published | Not published |
| Grand Pacific Hotel Suva | Grand Pacific Ballroom | 400 | 280 | 500 | 600 m², 6 m ceiling, no natural light |
| Holiday Inn Suva | Lali Room | 250 | 150 | 200 | 215 m² |
| Novotel Suva Lami Bay | Novotel Convention Centre | 350 | Not published | Not published | 480 m² |
| Tanoa Plaza Hotel | Tanoa Conference Room 3 | 150 | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Japan-Pacific ICT Centre | Multipurpose Theatre | 307 | Not applicable | Not applicable | Not published |
| De Vos on the Park | Meeting rooms | 50 | Not published | Not published | Not published |
| Vodafone Arena | Main Arena | 5,000 | Not published | Not published | Not published |
Read across that table and the position is clear. Peninsula is the smallest hotel meeting room on it, alongside De Vos on the Park. Anything above about 80 delegates belongs at Holiday Inn Suva, Tanoa Plaza, Novotel Suva Lami Bay or the Grand Pacific, and anything above 400 belongs at the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre's theatre or the Vodafone Arena.
How do delegates get there?
Suva is reached by road from Nadi International — a long drive, covered with real timings in Nadi to Denarau, Coral Coast, Suva and Pacific Harbour: Real Transfer Times — or by a domestic hop to Nausori, Suva's own airport, east of the city. The access question matters more for a Suva meeting than the room does, and it is the subject of Nausori Airport and the Suva Access Problem.
The hotel's location is its second real advantage: The Domain is walking distance from Victoria Parade, the capital's main commercial street, which puts government offices, banks and the business district within reach on foot. For a meeting whose delegates have appointments in town between sessions, that is worth more than a larger ballroom at Lami Bay.
What is not published, and must be asked
Four things this hotel does not state anywhere, and that you should get in writing before contracting:
- Set-up-specific capacities for the Mokosoi room — theatre, classroom, U-shape, boardroom and banquet, with the chart that resolves the 50-versus-80 question.
- Any room hire rate, day-delegate rate or minimum spend, in FJD, and whether quoted figures include VAT and the 5% Tourism Services Tax that commenced on 1 September 2026 for tourism businesses above the FJ$2 million threshold.
- Current AV inventory and in-room bandwidth, plus whether an external AV supplier may load in and on what terms.
- Load-in access to the third floor — lift dimensions and weight limit. A third-floor room with no service lift of a usable size constrains staging, screens and exhibition kit more than capacity ever will.
Verdict: who should book it?
Book Peninsula International Hotel for a single-room meeting of up to about 50 delegates seated at tables, where you want the meeting, the rooms and the meals in one central Suva building and the delegates have business in town. A board meeting, a training course, a government working group or a two-day departmental workshop fits it well.
Look elsewhere if you need a breakout room, a plated dinner for the whole group, exhibition space, a published day-delegate package, or a confirmed capacity above 80. Start with Holiday Inn Suva for a mid-size meeting with multiple rooms, or the Grand Pacific Hotel when the dinner matters as much as the session.
