Novotel Suva Lami Bay is one of the largest conference hotels in Fiji's capital region: 108 guest rooms, seven to eight event spaces, and a published total of roughly 2,183 m² of meeting space. Its largest room is quoted at up to 800 delegates theatre-style. Published capacity figures for this hotel conflict, and this guide gives both sets.

Where is Novotel Suva Lami Bay, and how long is the transfer?

The hotel sits on Queens Road at Lami Bay, in tropical gardens on the waterfront about 15 minutes from central Suva. Nausori International Airport is Suva's own airport; most delegates arriving internationally land at Nadi (NAN) and connect.

The Nadi–Suva road transfer is the one planners underestimate. Published drive times put Nadi to Suva at about 186 km and roughly 3 hours 10 minutes via Queens Road (Fiji Pocket Guide), and that assumes a clean run with no village slow zones backing up and no roadworks. Budget four hours for a coach carrying 40 people with a comfort stop, and read roads, traffic and realistic drive times before you promise an arrival window.

For a conference of any size, the practical choices are a domestic connection into Nausori or a staged road transfer with a lunch stop built in — not a 3 a.m. departure from Nadi on day one.

What meeting rooms does Novotel Suva Lami Bay have?

Seven rooms appear consistently across published sources: an Entertainment Centre, a Convention Centre, Novotel House, the Wai Maravu Room and three Bose Vata boardrooms. One listing states eight event rooms while tabling only seven.

The figures below are Accor's own event listing for the property (Accor Meetings & Events).

Why do the published capacities for this hotel conflict?

Because two sources that both derive from the hotel disagree, and the hotel's own page disagrees with itself in places. This matters: if you contract a 400-person gala on the wrong figure, you find out on the day.

Here is every conflict we found, with both figures.

The spread on the Convention Centre banquet figure — 175 versus 300 — is the one that would break a programme. The likeliest explanation is that one figure assumes rounds of eight with a dance floor and staging, and the other assumes rounds packed wall to wall. Neither source states its assumptions.

What to do about it: ask the hotel for a CAD floor plan with your actual set-up drawn on it, including stage, screen, dance floor and buffet positions, and get the seated number confirmed in the contract against that drawing. Do not accept a bare number.

What are the realistic set-ups at Novotel Suva Lami Bay?

Taking the more conservative published figure in each case, the hotel supports:

  • A plenary of up to 350 theatre-style in the Convention Centre, or up to 800 in the Entertainment Centre if that figure holds.
  • A gala of 175 to 400 depending on which banquet figure applies and what staging you need.
  • Three to four concurrent breakouts — Novotel House, Wai Maravu and two Bose Vata boardrooms — which is the hotel's real strength for a 150–250 delegate association meeting.
  • Boardroom meetings of 12 in each Bose Vata room, which is genuinely useful for committee days bolted onto a conference.

The constraint is beds, not rooms. 108 guest rooms, including two suites, means a 300-delegate conference is housing most of its delegates elsewhere in Suva. Build the accommodation plan across Holiday Inn Suva (130 rooms), Peninsula International Hotel (100 rooms) and Tanoa Plaza Hotel (60 rooms), and read Fiji group accommodation on how to contract across multiple properties without double-paying attrition.

What is on site, and what has to come in?

Rooms are 27–32 m² with ocean or garden views. Dining is Husk Restaurant for à la carte and the waterfront Tonique Gin Lounge & Bar. The hotel has an outdoor pool, gym, spa, business centre and wheelchair-accessible facilities, and lists WiFi, laundry and room service.

Two things are worth checking rather than assuming.

Bandwidth. Neither published source states committed bandwidth or whether a dedicated event circuit is available. For a hybrid or streamed session, that is a contract item, not an amenity. See internet and bandwidth at Fiji venues.

Production. No in-house AV inventory is published. Suva has genuine capability — Stage Tech Fiji and Audio Visual Logistics are both verified Suva records in our directory — but confirm whether the hotel mandates an in-house or preferred supplier before you quote the job out.

Loading access, ceiling heights and banquet kitchen capacity are not published for any space here. For a gala above 200 covers, all three are site-visit questions.

What does a conference at Novotel Suva Lami Bay cost?

The hotel does not publish day-delegate rates, room hire or banquet pricing, and we will not invent them. What we can publish is the tax and levy structure that sits on top of whatever you are quoted, because that is where overseas planners get caught.

ChargeRateApplies fromSource
Value Added Tax (VAT)12.5%1 August 2025, reduced from 15%FRCS
Tourism Services Tax (TST)5%1 September 2026, on qualifying tourism services from businesses over FJD 2m turnoverFRCS

A hotel of this scale will sit above the FJD 2 million threshold, so assume TST applies. When you compare a Fiji quote against an Auckland or Brisbane one, confirm in writing whether the figure is VAT and TST inclusive or exclusive — a 17.5% swing decides the venue.

For reference at the Reserve Bank of Fiji's rates of 23 October 2026, FJD 1 bought NZD 0.7813 and AUD 0.6327 (RBF). So FJD 10,000 of room hire was about NZD 7,813 or AUD 6,327 on that date. Rates move; take your own on the day you budget. Our Fiji conference cost hub breaks down the rest of the line items.

Tax rates and thresholds are a guideline only — confirm current rates and your own liability with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) before contracting.

Who should book it, and who shouldn't?

Book it if you need a four-star conference hotel in the capital with real breakout depth, your plenary is under 350, and your delegates have business in Suva — government, the University of the South Pacific, regional organisations, or the diplomatic community. The garden and waterfront setting also makes it a credible gala venue in a city where options are limited.

Look elsewhere if your delegates are arriving internationally and leaving within 48 hours; the Nadi transfer costs you most of a day each way. A Nadi or Denarau property will serve you better — compare conference facilities at Novotel Nadi. And if you need 500+ in one room in Suva, test the Vodafone Arena, the Japan-Pacific ICT Centre and the New Town Hall against the hotel's Entertainment Centre before committing.

Your next step is a floor plan with your set-up drawn on it and a written seated number. Start from the Fiji conference hotels hub, see what else Suva holds, or filter the whole directory by venue capacity.
