The largest published seated capacity anywhere in Taveuni or Vanua Levu is 165, at a Savusavu conference centre that is not a resort. No resort in Fiji's northern islands publishes a conference capacity at all. For a 20 to 50 person executive retreat the north is one of the best things Fiji has. For a plenary, it is the wrong island.
That is an unusual thing for a venue directory to say, so here is the evidence, checked on 8 October 2026, along with the handful of properties that do have genuine group capability and the two real constraints — air access and freight — that decide whether any of it works.
What conference space is actually published in the north?
| Venue | Location | Space | Published capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wasawasa Lodge and Conference Centre | Savusavu | Event centre | up to 165 guests |
| Wasawasa Lodge and Conference Centre | Savusavu | Open-air facility | up to 70 |
| Wasawasa Lodge and Conference Centre | Savusavu | Private rooms | up to 30 |
| Hot Springs Hotel Savusavu | Savusavu | Dedicated conference room | Not published |
| Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa | Savusavu | Latitude 17; Palm Grove Restaurant | Not published |
| Daku Resort | Savusavu | Conference room | Not published |
| Savusavu Yacht Club | Copra Shed Marina, Savusavu | Waterfront function space | Not published |
| Planters' Club | Savusavu | Historic club, available for functions | Not published |
| Every Taveuni resort we checked | Taveuni | — | None published |
The Wasawasa event centre is published as fully air-conditioned with a projector screen and surround sound, which makes it the only space in the north described as purpose-built for a meeting. It is not in our directory because we have not been able to verify its current operating status, and it has had other uses in recent years — confirm directly before you build a programme around it. A general regional figure of "up to 100 participants" also circulates in Savusavu tourism material without being attributed to a specific venue, so treat it as marketing rather than a capacity.
Everything else in the table is a room that exists, is used for functions, and whose capacity you will only learn by asking. That is the honest state of the market.
So what is the north actually good at?
Small, high-value, exclusive-use programmes. Three or four properties here are genuinely world-class at a 10-to-40-person retreat, and they are good at it precisely because they are not conference hotels.
Namale Resort & Spa, near Savusavu, has 22 bures and villas across 525 acres of gardens, rainforest and oceanfront, farm-to-table dining from its own gardens, and a 10,000-square-foot spa built on a volcanic cliff above the Koro Sea. It is adults-only and all-inclusive, offers a private resort rental, and has been recognised among TripAdvisor's top one percent of hotels worldwide. It publishes no buyout terms or guest numbers, so both are a conversation.
Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort Fiji at Lesiaceva Point has 25 oceanfront and garden bures and villas, is all-inclusive, and runs a children's Bula Club and teen programme alongside a marine-conservation focus. It is the one northern property that genuinely works when delegates bring families.
Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa is the largest resort in the region by room count at 50 rooms across 160 acres running from reef to rainforest, with a rainforest spa, two pools, a kids' club and nearby soft-coral diving. It names two function spaces — Latitude 17 and the Palm Grove Restaurant — and publishes a wedding capacity of up to around 120, which is the closest thing to a group capacity signal any northern resort gives.
The Remote Resort on Vanua Levu has eight private beachfront villas, each with a plunge pool, all-inclusive, and publishes whole-resort buyout. Savasi Island Resort, on a 52-acre island off Savusavu reached by private bridge, publishes retreats for small to medium-sized groups along with cave dining and a spa. Nukubati Private Island has seven bures on the edge of the Great Sea Reef, adults-only and off-grid.
On Taveuni the pattern is the same but smaller: Garden Island Resort is the largest at around 30 ocean-view and oceanfront rooms with a PADI five-star dive centre; Paradise Taveuni has 16 bures and villas; Matangi Private Island Resort 12 bures including elevated treehouses, adults-only; Taveuni Island Resort & Spa 13; Nakia Resort & Dive runs its own PADI operation with a twelve-metre freshwater pool and the Cliffhouse Restaurant; Taveuni Palms Resort is two villas, each with its own pool and staff.
Which property has an actual conference room?
Daku Resort, on the hillside above Savusavu Bay on Lesiaceva Road, is the one with a conference room, a business centre and a track record of residential programmes — it runs week-long yoga and art retreats under its Paradise Courses banner, and hosts meetings and weddings. It does not publish the room's capacity.
It does, usefully, publish rates, which almost nothing else here does. Its nightly starting prices are FJ$337 for Ocean View Bures and Standard Rooms, FJ$812 for Three Bedroom Houses, FJ$953 for the Pool House, FJ$1,025 for Bayview Garden Villas, FJ$1,143 for Bayview Heights Villas and FJ$1,360 for Three Bedroom Villas. At Reserve Bank of Fiji indicative rates on 7 October 2026 — FJ$1 to NZ$0.7867 and A$0.6336 — FJ$337 is roughly NZ$265 or A$214. Rates change, so confirm current pricing and group terms with the resort.
Hot Springs Hotel Savusavu is the town-centre option: elevated above Savusavu with bay and mountain views from nearly every room, a range of room types across budgets, and a dedicated conference room with tables and seating. For a meeting that needs to be in town rather than at a resort, it is the obvious base.
For a function with character rather than a meeting room, the Savusavu Yacht Club at Copra Shed Marina and the Planters' Club — one of the town's oldest buildings, with a monthly Sunday lovo — are both available for functions and both look out on, or sit within, the working waterfront.
How do delegates actually get there?
This is the constraint that decides most northern briefs.
| Route | Carrier | Published time | Frequency |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nadi – Savusavu | Fiji Link | 55 minutes | Two flights daily, more in high demand |
| Nadi – Labasa | Fiji Link | 45 minutes | Then about 90 minutes by road to Savusavu |
| Suva – Savusavu | Fiji Link | Not published | Daily |
| Suva – Labasa | Fiji Link | Not published | Daily |
| Taveuni (Matei) | Domestic services | Not published | Confirm schedules with the carrier |
Two things follow. First, two daily flights into Savusavu is the ceiling on your arrivals plan. A 60-delegate group arriving from Nadi on the same day will largely fill both services; a 120-delegate group cannot arrive on one day without a charter. Second, Labasa is often the cheaper gateway but adds roughly 90 minutes of road. Inter-island realities across the whole country are set out in how long does it really take to get between Fiji's islands and domestic and inter-island flights in Fiji.
What about AV and production?
Assume everything comes from Viti Levu. There is no AV or production supplier based in the northern islands, which means gear flies or ships in, and the baggage allowance on a 55-minute turboprop sector is not generous. Build a day either side for freight, keep the technical rider small, and expect the constraint to be weight and volume rather than availability. The in-country market is covered in AV and production in Fiji: what's available in-country.
What is the programme worth?
A great deal, and it is the honest reason to come north. The Somosomo Strait between Taveuni and Vanua Levu holds the Rainbow Reef and the Great White Wall, among the best soft-coral diving in the world, with operators including Taveuni Ocean Sports running from Taveuni. Savusavu has natural hot springs, a working marina and a yachting community; Taveuni has Bouma's waterfalls and rainforest walks.
For group dinners off-property in Savusavu, Surf & Turf on Main Street, Captain's Cafe at Copra Shed Marina and Vaga Gardens on the Hibiscus Highway are all established independents. None publishes a group capacity.
The verdict
Choose Daku Resort if you want the one northern property with a conference room, a business centre, published rates and genuine residential-programme experience.
Choose Namale, The Remote Resort or Savasi Island if the brief is an exclusive-use executive retreat of 10 to 40 people and the budget supports it.
Choose Koro Sun if you need the largest northern room block, at 50 rooms, with family capability.
Choose Hot Springs Hotel if the meeting needs to be in Savusavu town rather than at a resort.
Go to Viti Levu if you need a seated plenary above about 100, a published capacity to budget against, simultaneous breakout rooms, in-house AV, or more than two inbound flights a day. Conference venues in Suva, in Nadi and on Denarau Island answer all five.
