Choose your Fiji region by what you are there to do, not by which photo you saw. Denarau for short transfers and conference space, the Coral Coast for families and variety, the Mamanucas for island resorts within 90 minutes of Port Denarau, the Yasawas for scenery you have to travel for, Vanua Levu and Taveuni for diving, and Suva for business.
Fiji's directory splits across ten regions. Below is a routing guide: who each region is for, which properties fit, and what the transfer actually costs you in time. Room counts are from the MICE Fiji directory unless a source is named.
Which region, in one table?
| Region | Best for | Transfer from Nadi International (NAN) | Properties in our directory |
|---|---|---|---|
| Denarau | Conferences, short transfers, families wanting facilities | About 30 min by road | 20 |
| Nadi | First and last nights, transit, budget | 0–20 min | 43 |
| Coral Coast | Families, variety of property size, weddings | 55–90 min by road | 39 |
| Natadola / Momi | Resort feel with ballroom capacity | 55–60 min by road | Within Nadi and Coral Coast counts |
| Pacific Harbour | Adventure, diving, seclusion near the capital | About 2.5 hr by road, or 30 min by air | 17 |
| Suva | Government, academic and regional business | Road via Queens Road, or Nausori Airport | 38 |
| Lautoka | Local access, sugar-belt and northwest touring | 30–40 min by road | 25 |
| Mamanuca Islands | Island resorts, small incentives, buyouts | About 90 min by catamaran from Port Denarau | 25 |
| Yasawa Islands | Scenery, small groups, backpacker to boutique | Daily catamaran; northern islands a half-day | 13 |
| Taveuni & Vanua Levu | Diving, rainforest, retreats | Domestic flight required | 27 |
| Other islands | Private islands, exclusivity | Varies | 12 |
Directory counts are wedding-capable properties with verified websites. Transfer times are the resorts' own published figures where available (Radisson Blu; Sheraton Fiji; InterContinental Fiji; Outrigger Fiji; Outrigger Castaway; Nanuku).
Where should couples stay?
Adults-only, small, and mostly in the Mamanucas.
Likuliku Lagoon Resort (45 rooms, overwater bures), Tokoriki Island Resort (36), Matamanoa Island Resort (47) and Lomani Island Resort & Spa (30) are all adults-only. On the mainland, Tambua Sands Beach Resort (25) on the Coral Coast is adults-only and considerably cheaper than the island options. On Vanua Levu, Namale Resort & Spa (22) is adults-only and all-inclusive.
The practical trade-off: an adults-only Mamanuca island costs you a boat transfer and buys you a property with no kids' club and no wedding party on the next lawn. If you want both quiet and a short transfer, the mainland adults-only options are the compromise worth making.
Where should families stay?
The Coral Coast and Denarau, for the same reason: big properties with kids' clubs, multiple pools and a road transfer rather than a boat.
On the Coral Coast, Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort (254 rooms), Shangri-La Yanuca Island (443), Warwick Fiji (247) and the smaller Gecko's Resort (28) are all family properties. On Denarau, Radisson Blu (270) and Sheraton Fiji (297) carry the scale. InterContinental Fiji at Natadola (266) sits between the two, about 55 minutes from the airport.
In the Mamanucas, families are better served by Malolo Island Resort (46) and Sheraton Resort & Spa Tokoriki Island (101) than by the adults-only properties, obviously — but factor in the 90-minute catamaran with young children before committing.
Note that Mana Island Resort & Spa, long a family staple, is closed for refurbishment with reopening targeted for late 2027 under the Radisson Individuals brand (Fiji Times).
Where should a conference or incentive group stay?
By event footprint, four precincts do the work.
Denarau has the densest inventory within 30 minutes of Nadi International. Sheraton Fiji publishes 10 event rooms across 3,551 square metres with a largest-space capacity of 2,000, plus the Denarau Island Convention Centre. Radisson Blu runs a 180-square-metre ballroom to 120 theatre. The Westin Denarau displayed a "currently closed" alert on Marriott's site when checked on 25 September 2026 — confirm before including it in a proposal.
Natadola and Momi Bay give you a resort setting with real ballroom capacity: InterContinental Fiji's Natadola Ballroom seats up to 600, and Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay has a pillar-free Grand Salon Ballroom at 300 banquet and 400 reception.
The Coral Coast works for mid-size programmes: Warwick Fiji's Talanoa Hall takes 400 banquet across 510 square metres, with the Coral Coast Conference Centre at 200.
Suva is the right answer when your delegates are government, academic or regional-organisation. Grand Pacific Hotel (113 rooms), Holiday Inn Suva (130) and Novotel Suva Lami Bay (108) are the core stock, supplemented by Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka (92) if your programme runs west.

Where should divers stay?
North for the reef, south for the sharks.
Vanua Levu and Taveuni are Fiji's diving heartland, covering the Rainbow Reef and the Somosomo Strait. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort (25 bures), Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa (50), Namale Resort & Spa (22) and Garden Island Resort (30) all sit in this belt. Jean-Michel Cousteau closed in early 2026 for enhancements including expanded two-bedroom oceanfront bures and a new gym — check status before booking.
In the south, Beqa Lagoon Resort (25) covers Beqa Lagoon and its shark dives. In the Yasawas, Barefoot Manta Island Resort (25) is the manta-season option.
One honest caveat that applies everywhere: UK government advice warns that scuba operations in Fiji may not meet the safety standards you expect, and the two governments disagree on how many decompression chambers are operational in the country. Book through an established operator and confirm chamber availability before you dive — see is Fiji safe? for the detail.
Where should you stay for privacy at the top of the market?
The private islands and the smallest boutiques. Kokomo Private Island Fiji (26), COMO Laucala Island (25), Six Senses Fiji (24) and VOMO Island Fiji (40) sit at the top end. Nanuku Resort at Pacific Harbour publishes 15 suites plus 22 villas and residences and a resort capacity of 6 to 120 guests, making it one of the more buyout-friendly properties on the mainland.
Where should you stay on a budget?
Nadi and the Yasawas. Smugglers Cove Beach Resort (22) in Nadi covers the airport end. In the Yasawas, Octopus Resort (30), Blue Lagoon Beach Resort (34) and Barefoot Kuata mix backpacker and resort accommodation on the same island. Leleuvia Island Resort off eastern Viti Levu is the low-key outer-island option.
Where should you stay on the first or last night?
Nadi. If your inbound lands late or your outbound leaves early, a night near the airport is cheaper than a missed island transfer. Tanoa International Hotel (149) and Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa (324) are the practical choices.
This matters more than it sounds. Scheduled catamarans from Port Denarau run to a timetable that has nothing to do with your flight. A same-day connection from a 6am arrival to a 9am boat works; from a delayed evening arrival it does not.
The decision, in one line each
Denarau if the transfer time and the conference space matter most. The Coral Coast if you want the coast without the density. The Mamanucas if you want an island and can spend 90 minutes on a boat. The Yasawas if the scenery is the point and you will build a rest day around the travel. Vanua Levu or Taveuni if you are there to dive. Suva if you are there to work. Nadi for the nights either side of all of it.
