Honeymoon somewhere your wedding guests are not. Give the group two or three nights at the wedding resort, then transfer to a smaller adults-only property — Likuliku in the Mamanucas, Royal Davui in Fiji's Outer Islands, Namale on Vanua Levu. The move is short, easily arranged, and the single best decision most Fiji couples make.
Why should you move resorts after the wedding?
The resort that hosts a 40-guest Fiji wedding is chosen for a lawn that seats everyone, a kitchen that plates a hundred covers and a transfer that moves a group. Group capabilities — the opposite of what you want three days later.
MICE Fiji's directory holds verified ceremony spaces at exactly those properties: the Sheraton chapel and Westin Denarau lawns on Denarau Island, the Shangri-La Yanuca Island seaside chapel on the Coral Coast (ceremony 40), and the Musket Cove island chapel in the Mamanucas (80).
Excellent wedding venues. But after the ceremony you are still the couple everyone recognises at breakfast, and your aunt is on the next lounger. The fix is a transfer, not a different wedding venue. In the second half it is only the two of you, which buys a better property than a group could.
What does the wedding-to-honeymoon handover look like day by day?
The transition is a sequencing problem, and what couples get wrong is the recovery day. You cannot marry on Saturday, farewell 40 people on Sunday morning and board a seaplane that afternoon in any state to enjoy it.
| Day | Where you are | What is happening | What you book now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Day −2 | Wedding resort | Guests arrive, licence settled | Group arrival transfer; rooms as one block |
| Day −1 | Wedding resort | Rehearsal, supplier walk-through | Celebrant, photographer, styling, catering |
| Day 0 | Wedding resort | Ceremony and reception | — |
| Day 1 | Wedding resort | Recovery day: long lunch, one boat trip | Deliberately nothing |
| Day 2 (am) | Wedding resort | Farewell breakfast; guests depart | — |
| Day 2 (pm) | Second property | You transfer out, and arrive where nobody knows you | Transfer landing mid-afternoon |
| Days 3–4 | Second property | Do nothing, on purpose | Spa, picnic, dive slots |
| Days 5–8 | Second property | The honeymoon proper | Anything with limited capacity |
Flag the honeymoon at booking, not at check-in — Likuliku's Honeymoon Bonus has a three-night minimum and only helps if it is on the reservation. And book the Day 2 transfer before the second resort's first night: in Fiji's Outer Islands the schedule sets your arrival day.
If a second property will not fit the budget, change room category, move to the far end of the resort, and put a full day off-site between the farewell breakfast and the first honeymoon dinner.
The Fiji wedding guest guide covers the group half; 10 reasons to get married in Fiji covers the decision.
Which second properties are genuinely adults-only?
The most-misreported fact in Fiji honeymoon content. Every line below was checked against the property's own website in September 2026; where a resort publishes no age policy, the table says so.
| Property | Region | What it is | Adults-only? | How you get there |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Likuliku Lagoon Resort | Mamanucas | 45 bures, 10 over-water | Yes — no "reservations for guests under 17 years" | Catamaran; helicopter; boat |
| Tokoriki Island Resort | Mamanucas | Boutique island resort | Yes — "adults-only"; no minimum age published | Catamaran 1hr; helicopter 15min |
| Matamanoa Island Resort | Mamanucas | Island resort | Yes — "guests 16 years of age and older" | Catamaran 75min; speedboat; helicopter |
| Lomani Island Resort | Mamanucas | Small resort, Malolo Lailai | Yes — "adults-only island retreat"; no minimum age published | Malolo Cat catamaran |
| Royal Davui Island Resort | Outer Islands | 16 villas, private island | Yes — "guests aged 16 years and over" | Helicopter 35min; or flight plus launch; or 3hr drive plus launch |
| Namale Resort & Spa | Vanua Levu | All-inclusive | Yes — "all guests 18 years old and older" | Savusavu, 10min shuttle |
| Matangi Private Island | Taveuni region | Treehouse villas, 240 acres | Yes — "Adult-Only Private Island"; no minimum age published | Taveuni, car and boat |
| Turtle Island | Yasawas | All-inclusive, 14 couples | Yes, with exceptions — "18+ years in age", plus family weeks | Seaplane; not in the rate |
| Yasawa Island Resort | Yasawas | Airstrip resort | Mostly — "family weeks a few times a year" | 30min charter from Nadi |
| Navutu Stars | Yasawas | Small barefoot-luxury | Qualified — "children over the age of 11 are welcome" | Boat or air from Nadi |
| The Remote Resort | Vanua Levu | All-inclusive villas | No — "children from 12 years+" | Taveuni or Savusavu |
| Vomo Island Fiji | Mamanucas | Families and couples | No — but "The Rocks – Adults Only Chill Zone" | 15min heli or 40min boat |
| Six Senses Fiji | Mamanucas | Villas and residences | No — children welcome; nanny service | 25km from Nadi airport |
| Kokomo Private Island | Outer Islands | Great Astrolabe Reef | No — Kaji Club children's club | Seaplane and helicopter |
| Beqa Lagoon Resort | Outer Islands | Dive-led resort | No — four family suites | Ground and boat; not published |
| Toberua Island Resort | Outer Islands | Small island, east Viti Levu | No — "family-friendly accommodation and activities" | 20min drive from Suva, 10min boat |
| Taveuni Palms Resort | Taveuni | Two-villa resort | No — publishes a family holiday page | Fly to Taveuni |
| Nukubati Private Island | Vanua Levu | Small private island | Not stated on its site | Labasa, 1hr drive, 5min boat |
| Serenity Island Resort | Mamanucas | Private island, near mainland | Not stated on its site | Boat, Vuda Marina |
| COMO Laucala Island | Outer Islands | Private island | Not stated on the pages checked | "AIR LAUCALA or your private jet" |
| Qamea Resort and Spa | Taveuni region | — | Unavailable — its own site says "closed till further notice" | — |
Read that as a filter, not a ranking. The four unambiguous on age are Likuliku, Matamanoa, Royal Davui and Namale. Tokoriki, Lomani and Matangi call themselves adults-only without publishing a minimum age; ask in writing.
Does Fiji actually have overwater bures?
Barely. Of the 21 properties checked here, only Likuliku Lagoon Resort publishes overwater accommodation: 10 over-water bures in a 45-room resort, which its own site calls "Fiji's first and the only authentic over-water bures".
That is its claim about its own market, not a national count we can verify — but no other resort we checked publishes overwater rooms. Ten rooms is a supply problem: book far ahead, or take a beachfront bure with a pool.
What do transfers actually cost you in time?
An hour spent moving is an hour spent nowhere. What operators and resorts publish:
| Transfer type | What is published | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Road (Coral Coast, Pacific Harbour) | Royal Davui: a "3 hour scenic drive" Nadi to Pacific Harbour, then the boat | Cheapest, longest day |
| Scheduled catamaran (Mamanucas, Yasawas) | Tokoriki: 1hr from Port Denarau, FJ$208pp plus fuel surcharge, 12:00pm; a Fast Cat at 8:30am is FJ$250pp. Matamanoa: 12:00pm–1:15pm | Fixed departures set your arrival day |
| Speedboat / water taxi (Mamanucas, lower Yasawas) | Tokoriki: about 1hr plus 20min car transfer, FJ$1,475 one way for 2. Mamanuca Express runs a 24-hour water taxi from Port Denarau | Sea state, not schedule |
| Seaplane (Mamanucas, Yasawas) | Turtle Airways, from Wailoaloa Beach by Nadi International: about 15min to the Mamanucas, 33min to the Yasawas; 6 seats | Daylight only; check baggage |
| Small plane (Yasawas, Vanua Levu, Taveuni) | Yasawa Island Resort: 30min charter, Nadi 2:00–2:30pm. Namale: Savusavu plus 10min shuttle. Nukubati: Labasa, 1hr drive, 5min boat | Domestic legs drive the itinerary |
| Helicopter (Mamanucas, Outer Islands) | Tokoriki: 15min from Nadi, FJ$1,790 per room one way, FJ$3,260 return for 2. Vomo: "15 mins Helicopter". Royal Davui: "only 35mins from Nadi Domestic Airport" | Likuliku takes no helicopter movements before 8am |
One caution: some resort transfer pages still list Pacific Island Air, which published a notice that it would cease operations from 31 January 2025. Confirm the operator at booking. Sea Fiji and Yasawa Adventures hold directory records; Coral Coast Transfers covers road legs.
What honeymoon inclusions do Fiji resorts actually publish?
Less than the marketing suggests, and conditional. Likuliku publishes a Honeymoon Bonus — Louis Roederer Champagne, chocolates, floral bed decoration — combinable with its other offers on a three-night minimum. Separately: an "Effortless Island Living" FJD$1,000 resort credit (1 Nov 2026 – 30 Apr 2027, five nights, new bookings, blacked out 26 Dec – 5 Jan), an "Indulgence Package" of free return island transfers (seven nights, not on Beachfront Bure), and a "Celebration" package with champagne and a couples massage.
Tokoriki publishes a five-night Couples Experience: champagne on arrival and in the room, four 90-minute couples massages, an island picnic, daily meals and snorkel trips. Its Celebration Experience adds return helicopter or speedboat transfers, VIP express immigration and Fiji Airways Premier lounge access.
Royal Davui offers Romance (sand cay picnic, his and hers sulus, one-hour couples massage), Adventure and Indulgence, and states "a honeymoon at Royal Davui is not built from a fixed package"; return Nadi transfers come with five nights or more. The Remote Resort is all-inclusive with return transfers from Taveuni or Savusavu, plus a priced "Ultimate Spa" upgrade of "one 50-minute spa treatment for every night of your stay". Turtle Island includes "all your meals, beverages including alcohol, dining experiences, and activities" in the rate — but not airfares or island transfers. Lomani, Navutu Stars and Beqa Lagoon describe bespoke packages with no fixed inclusions.
Publishing nothing we could find: Nukubati, Six Senses Fiji, Kokomo, Vomo, COMO Laucala, Matamanoa, Yasawa Island Resort and Namale market to honeymooners without an inclusion list. Those offers come at quotation — assume no free night, upgrade or spa credit until it is on your confirmation.
When should you go, and how bad is cyclone season?
The Fiji Meteorological Service is explicit: "the TCs season in the southwest Pacific extend from November to April, with the peak TC activities normally experienced from January to March." For 2025–26 it forecast four to five cyclones across the RSMC Nadi area, one to two likely to pass through Fiji's Exclusive Economic Zone.
Fiji Met publishes a cyclone season, not a tourism "dry season". May to October is the trade shorthand for the settled months, and lines up with manta season.
What breaks in a cyclone month is usually not the resort — it is the transfer. Catamaran and seaplane services suspend first, and two lost days rearrange an itinerary. If you marry November to April, build a spare day into the honeymoon leg and buy insurance that names tropical cyclone disruption.
This is a guideline only — confirm current forecasts with the Fiji Meteorological Service before you travel.
What if you want diving, mantas or sharks?
The Somosomo Strait and Rainbow Reef, off Taveuni. Tourism Fiji calls the Rainbow Reef "home to many of the Strait's best dives" and the Great White Wall "a consistent contender for the 'World's Top 10 Dive Locations'", with Dendronepthya soft corals and more than 1,400 reef fish species. No best season is published. Stay at Matangi, The Remote Resort or Taveuni Palms in Taveuni and Vanua Levu.
Beqa Lagoon and the Shark Reef Marine Reserve. Tourism Fiji puts the reserve "about a 15-minute boat ride from Pacific Harbour" and names eight shark species, bull and tiger among them. Dives are 18 metres and deeper, experienced divers only. Base at Beqa Lagoon Resort, Royal Davui or Nanuku at Pacific Harbour.
Manta season in the Yasawas. Tourism Fiji: "between May and October, plankton is funnelled through this narrow channel attracting manta rays to gather and feed" — the Manta Ray Passage between Drawaqa and Naviti. Mantaray Island Resort and Barefoot Manta sit on it; Navutu Stars and Yasawa Island Resort are quieter bases in the Yasawa Islands.
For day trips, see Hydro Sports and Captain Cook Cruises under activities; Ocean Studio Fiji shoots both halves.
How do you choose by what you actually want?
| What you actually want | Where to look | The trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Privacy | Royal Davui, Turtle Island, Matangi | Long or costly transfers; one dining room |
| Diving | Beqa Lagoon Resort, The Remote Resort, Matangi | Dive schedules run the day |
| Spa and doing nothing | Likuliku, Namale, Tokoriki | Best packages need 5–7 nights |
| Soft adventure | Vomo, Navutu Stars, Nanuku | Not adults-only; they take families |
| Shortest transfer | Serenity Island, Six Senses Fiji, Likuliku | The closest islands are the busiest water |
| Room over journey | Matamanoa, Lomani, Tokoriki | A catamaran seat is FJ$208–250pp against FJ$1,790 per room by helicopter |
The verdict
Choose Likuliku if the overwater bure is the point and you want the strictest adults-only rule in the country. Choose Royal Davui for a sixteen-villa private island, transfers included on five nights or more. Choose Namale for a genuine 18+ all-inclusive. Choose Matamanoa or Tokoriki for adults-only in the Mamanucas on a shorter, cheaper transfer.
Whichever you choose: do not honeymoon in a room your guests can see from the pool bar.
What is the next step?
Lock the wedding property and the group block first — a capacity problem, not a romance problem — and let where to stay in Fiji and the Fiji islands guide tell you which regions absorb your numbers. Then the second property, then the Day 2 transfer.
