Fiji's largest single published indoor room seats about 1,500 delegates theatre-style — the Denarau Island Convention Centre at Sheraton Fiji. Above that, Fiji does not run out of capacity so much as run out of rooms. Events beyond roughly 1,600 people get delivered across several resorts, or under marquees on grass.

That is the honest answer, and it is more useful than a single number. Below are the published figures, the places where the venues' own websites contradict each other, and what Fiji actually does when a conference outgrows its biggest room. For everything else about running a business event here, start with the complete planner's guide.

What is the largest conference venue in Fiji?

These are the largest capacities published by the venues themselves or their parent brands. Set-up style matters enormously here, so it is stated in every case.

Two things fall out of that table. The first is that the indoor ceiling is the Sheraton's convention centre and nothing else is close to it. The second is that Fiji's single biggest published number belongs to a lawn.

We have covered the single-largest-room question separately in which Fiji venue is actually the largest, and the related question of whether the country has a national facility at all in does Fiji have a convention centre.

The venues behind those figures: Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort, Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, Shangri-La Yanuca Island, Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa, InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa, Grand Pacific Hotel Suva, Warwick Fiji and Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay.

Why do the published figures for Sheraton Fiji disagree?

Because they do, and a planner should know it before building a floor plan. Three Marriott pages give three different answers for the same resort:

  • The room-by-room venues table lists the Denarau Island Convention Centre at 1,500 theatre, 1,000 banquet, 1,600 reception.
  • The events overview page states "Largest Space Capacity 2000" and attributes it to the Pro-Shop Lawn — a figure that appears nowhere in the room-by-room table, which caps that lawn at 1,500 reception.
  • Marriott's Fiji portfolio page says the resort takes "up to 1,600 guests".

There is a unit problem too. The overview gives 3,551 square metres of total event space, while the venues table shows an area of 18,890.8 for the convention centre alone — a figure that only reconciles as square feet, and the table does not label the unit. Treat those area numbers with suspicion and ask for a dimensioned floor plan.

Marriott also publishes the claim that this is "the largest convention space in the South Pacific Islands" under two different property names, Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort and the adjacent Sheraton Denarau Villas, which share the facility.

The same pattern appears at Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay. The hotel's own site says its Crown Convention Centre is a pillarless ballroom "seating up to 900 delegates" at 493 square metres. IHG's listing for the same room says 1,450 guests in one place and 1,400 in another. Where a hotel and its brand parent disagree, the hotel's own lower figure is the safer one to contract against.

Is Fiji's biggest capacity indoors or outdoors?

Outdoors, and that is the whole argument for a planner. Hilton Fiji's Koro Lawn publishes 1,500 banquet and 2,000 reception across 3,989 square metres — more than the Sheraton's convention centre on both measures. Add the Sheraton's Pro-Shop Lawn at 1,500 reception, Sandy Point at 800 reception, and Shangri-La's Rara at 1,000, and the top of Fiji's market is grass with a marquee on it.

That is a real option and a genuinely good one for eight months of the year. It is also weather-exposed in a country with a defined wet season, so the question stops being "can Fiji hold my 1,200 people" and becomes "what happens to my 1,200 people at 4pm in February". Build the wet-weather contingency before you sign, and read when to hold a conference in Fiji first.

What can Suva hold?

Less than Nadi, and the published data is messier. The Grand Pacific Hotel's Britannia Ballroom is Suva's largest hotel space at 600 theatre, 400 banquet and 550 cocktail over 600 square metres. Holiday Inn Suva publishes its Lali Room at 200 and claims 350 delegates across three rooms plus a poolside pavilion.

Novotel Suva Lami Bay is the venue to query carefully. Accor's main hotel page gives a largest room of 1,248 square metres and a maximum seated capacity of 800; Accor's own meetings platform lists the Novotel Convention Centre at 480 square metres and 350 theatre. Both are Accor domains and the 800 cannot be reconciled with any single room in the second table.

Beyond hotels, Vodafone Arena publishes 5,000 seated and describes itself as configurable from 1 to 10,000 persons, but it is a sports arena with no published capacities for its halls or events lounge. The Japan-Pacific ICT Centre theatre at the University of the South Pacific has 307 fixed seats on one university page and 303 on another.

If you need Suva for protocol reasons, read Suva or Nadi and the conference venues in Suva list.

How does Fiji host more than 1,600 delegates?

By splitting the event. The clearest current example is Pre-COP31, held in Fiji from 5 to 8 October 2026. The Fiji Sun, quoting the organiser, reported a programme for "2,000-plus delegates" spread deliberately across three venues: the Sheraton as the main venue, Sofitel for side events and the Green Zone, and Crowne Plaza for exhibitions and further side events. That figure is a news report quoting an organiser rather than an official count, and we have not been able to verify it against a government source.

For comparison, the largest single-venue conference we can confirm with a Fiji Government delegate figure is the 20th Conference of Commonwealth Education Ministers at the Sheraton in February 2018, which Government described as expecting "nearly 500 attendees" across the week.

So the pattern is established practice, not improvisation. Multi-property delivery in Fiji is normal, and running one event across four hotels is its own discipline.

What number should you plan against?

  • Up to 600 delegates in one room: a genuine choice of venues, in Nadi, on Denarau, on the Coral Coast and in Suva.
  • 600 to 900: Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay on its own published figure, Shangri-La's Ratu Makutu Events Centre at 650, or an outdoor build.
  • 900 to 1,600: effectively the Denarau Island Convention Centre, or a marquee.
  • Above 1,600: multi-venue, and start the conversation 18 months out. See booking lead times for Fiji venues.

What we could not establish

Being straight about the gaps: no official source publishes total hotel room stock for Denarau Island, and the Fiji Bureau of Statistics publishes room-nights rather than a count of rooms, so the large "rooms available" figures in its quarterly releases are not room stock and should not be quoted as such. Vodafone Arena's individual hall capacities and Suva's New Town Hall capacity are not published either.
