Denarau Island's dining splits cleanly in two: a compact cluster of independent restaurants at Port Denarau, and the restaurants inside the five big resorts. Denarau Corporation advertises "40 restaurants"; the official Port Denarau directory lists seven. The real number sits somewhere between, and this is the honest version.

We have verified everything below against a venue's own site, its official directory listing, or Tourism Fiji. Where we could not verify something, we say so — including three venues that appear in most listings and are no longer trading.

What is at Port Denarau, and what is actually open?

Port Denarau is the walkable choice: a marina and retail complex of more than 10,000 square metres, with a supermarket, a bakery, a pharmacy and free entertainment nightly from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. You can eat your way through it in a week without a taxi.

Three venues to strike off your list. Hard Rock Cafe Fiji has permanently closed — the brand's own locations page no longer lists Fiji, and FBC News reported the Jacks of Fiji-owned restaurant shut, with Cantina Grill & Bar now operating from the ground floor. Grills Restaurant & Bar opened at Port Denarau but its own brand site now lists only Suva and Labasa branches, and it is absent from the official Port Denarau directory; treat it as closed until you can ring and confirm. Amalfi Italian Restaurant is still named on the official directory, but with no detail page, no phone number and a link that points at the wrong venue — we could not verify it is trading.

And one correction: The Rum Co. of Fiji at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club is a retail tasting store, not a restaurant. The club's actual dining outlet is Heineken House Restaurant & Bar, open daily 7am–9pm, with wood-fired pizza, live sport and a 360-degree bar overlooking the greens.

Which resort restaurants are worth crossing the island for?

The resort dining is where the breadth is — and for anyone staying at Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island, it is where the variety is too. Seven named outlets, including Byblos for Lebanese, Chantara for Thai, a teppanyaki room with two seatings and a 16-plus rule, and Lomani Wai, an in-the-water dinner with a kava tasting that runs Tuesday to Saturday from 6.45pm and requires a minimum of 15 people.

Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa runs eight: Bazaar's interactive cooking stations, Solis for Mediterranean seafood, Waitui Bar & Grill (adults only), Madame So for Vietnamese, KOKO for Fijian, Suka for rum on the sand, and Republik, the island's late venue, open Wednesday to Saturday 9pm to 12.55am.

Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa has Maravu for pan-Asian, Nuku for Fijian and Koro, which is adults-only except for family dining from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. It also publishes the only per-person dining price any Denarau resort puts on its own website: a private beach cabana dinner at FJD 205 per person, with an extra cabana set-up at FJD 30 per person, children under three free and four to twelve at half price.

Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort runs Tatavu Grill & Bar until midnight, Cellar & Barrel until midnight or 1am at weekends, Island 619 for buffets and Sega Na Leqa, a beer garden at the resort entry. It is also the only resort that publishes a lovo frequency — Cultural Dining offers a lovo dinner buffet twice weekly, with a farm tour and entertainment. The nights are not published.

One significant gap: The Westin Denarau Island Resort & Spa is shown as closed on Marriott's own website as at 26 October 2026, despite reporting elsewhere of a March 2026 soft opening and a June 2026 full opening. If a programme depends on it, confirm directly.

Can non-staying guests eat at the resorts? None of the five publishes a policy either way. In practice it is arranged by telephone, not by rule. Ring the restaurant, not the front desk.

Where can you take a group of 20, 50 or 200?

The published figures are thin, and that is itself the finding. Here is the complete set we could source.

VenuePublished group capability
Cantina Grill & BarOver 200 guests; indoor air-conditioned or alfresco marina seating; set menus, sharing options, drinks packages; AV, presentation and group invoicing accommodated
IndigoPrivate dining and catering; works with event planners and wedding coordinators; the Grand Tandoor sharing platter is built for groups, with a vegetarian version. No capacity figure published
Radisson — Lomani WaiMinimum 15 people, Tue–Sat from 6.45pm, weather-dependent
Radisson — Signature TablesPrivate beachside dinners, daily from 6pm, bookings essential
Sheraton — Proshop Lawn, DGRC800 banquet / 2,000 reception
Sheraton — Denarau Island Convention Centre1,755 m²; the chart says 1,700 theatre and the prose on the same page says 1,600
Hilton — Koro Lawn3,989 m²; 1,500 banquet / 2,000 reception
Hilton — Nuku Beachfront180 banquet / 200 reception

No Denarau venue publishes a buyout option or a buyout price. For the mid-range — a dinner for 40 to 80 — the practical answer is Cantina or Indigo at the Port, or a beachfront set-up at one of the resorts, priced on application. Our group dining in Denarau piece works through the 20, 50 and 100 bands.

What about lovo nights, dietary requirements and payment?

Lovo. Only two venues publish anything concrete. The Sheraton's twice-weekly lovo buffet is the clearest, and the Radisson's Blu Bar & Grill runs a Fijian buffet on Wednesday nights. Mamacita Mexican Restaurant & Bar, inside Club Wyndham, publishes a Fijian meke show every Tuesday and Polynesian dance every Friday, both 7.30–8pm. No Denarau venue publishes a lovo price. Note Mamacita is not inside Port Denarau — its own FAQ says so explicitly.

Dietary. Indigo is the best documented on the island: vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes on the menu, a vegetarian Grand Tandoor, and a kitchen that will adapt dishes with notice. The Bilo publishes gluten-free and plant-based meals; Cantina publishes vegetarian and vegan options; the Radisson's Blu Bar & Grill publishes vegetarian options. Halal is published nowhere on Denarau — not by a single independent or resort outlet, including the island's Indian restaurant. For a group from a market where that matters, it has to be arranged venue by venue in advance.

Payment and reservations. Mamacita is the only venue publishing its payment policy: cash in Fijian dollars, Visa, Mastercard, most international cards and contactless. Card acceptance is normal across the Port and the resorts, but if you want certainty, ask. Reservations are not generally needed at Port Denarau, are advised at peak times and for groups, and are stated as essential for the Radisson's Byblos, Signature Tables and teppanyaki.

Prices. Almost nothing is published. The complete set of official figures we found for the whole island is the Hilton's FJD 205 per-person cabana dinner, the Sheraton's events catering rate of "$220.00 per person" with no currency stated on the page, and Grills' sharing deals at $59.50 and $95.00. Everything else is on application. Those figures are as published in October 2026 — we do not publish NZD or AUD equivalents because the rate moves; convert at the rate on the day you contract.

How do you get between venues?

On foot within Port Denarau, and by shuttle between the resorts. The island's hop-on hop-off bus is widely known as the Bula Bus — but it has no website of its own, and Port Denarau's own site calls the service the "Denarau Shuttle Bus", alongside Denarau Taxis and the Yellow Bus. The day-pass fare in circulation is just over FJ$10 per adult with under-12s free, running daily 7am to 10.30pm, but that is a travel-guide figure rather than an operator one, so confirm it locally. Paid parking is available at Port Denarau.

From the airport, see Nadi Airport to Denarau Island for the published transfer rates.

The verdict

For a couple or a small group, eat at the Port: Bonefish for seafood, Indigo for the best-documented kitchen on the island, Cantina for breakfast and a long lunch by the water, Nadina or Sails for genuinely Fijian food. For a special night, the Hilton's cabana dinner is the one Denarau experience with a published price, and the Radisson's Lomani Wai is the one with a published minimum.

For anything over 40 people, start with Cantina's 200-plus capacity and the resorts' lawn and beachfront spaces, and expect every price to come by quote.
