Fiji has fewer true over-water ceremony sites than its marketing suggests. Exactly one resort — Likuliku Lagoon Resort — confirms in its own published material that you can marry on the deck of an over-water bure. Five more offer a platform, deck or jetty out over the lagoon. That is the real list, and it is short.
How we ranked these
Stated method, because "best" is meaningless otherwise. We ranked on five things, in this order:
- Is the ceremony actually held over the water — on a structure above the lagoon, not on sand looking at it?
- Is that confirmed by the venue's own published material, or only recorded in our directory?
- What guest capacity is published for the setting?
- Is there a published wet-weather fallback?
- How transparent is the resort about price, capacity and policy?
Nothing here is ranked by advertising, promotion tier or commercial relationship. Where a resort publishes nothing, we say so rather than filling the gap.
The over-water shortlist
| Rank | Venue | Region | Over-water setting | Confirmed by | Published capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Likuliku Lagoon Resort | Mamanucas | Deck of an over-water bure | Resort's own weddings page | Not published |
| 2 | The Remote Resort | Vanua Levu | Jetty / pier; Main Pavilion deck | Resort's own weddings page | Not published |
| 3 | Castaway Island, Fiji | Mamanucas | Water's Edge Jetty | Resort's own weddings page | Packages cap at 20 |
| 4 | Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa | Vanua Levu | Over-water / edgewater lagoon | MICE Fiji directory | ~120 guests, property-wide |
| 5 | Savasi Island Resort | Vanua Levu | Over-water | MICE Fiji directory | Not published |
| 6 | Paradise Taveuni | Taveuni | Over-water | MICE Fiji directory | Not published |
Note what the right-hand columns are telling you. Three resorts confirm an over-water ceremony themselves; three are recorded in our directory as offering one but publish no detail to back it. We have ranked the confirmed ones above the unconfirmed ones on purpose.
1. Likuliku Lagoon Resort — the only real bure-deck ceremony
Likuliku opened the first authentic over-water bures in Fiji and still runs the country's only adults-only over-water bure resort. Ten of its 45 bures sit above the reef on Malolo Island in the Mamanucas, and its weddings page offers four settings: the beach at sunset, beside the horizon-edge pool, on the deck of your over-water bure, and on the resort's own Mociu private island.
Two published details matter more than the picture:
- Weddings are free between November and March, subject to conditions. That is a real offer, and it lands squarely in Fiji's wet season — see dry season vs wet season for a Fiji wedding.
- Ceremonies are not held on Sundays. A renewal of vows can take place on a Sunday, with a celebrant only.
No guest capacity is published for the bure deck, and it would be odd if a large one were — a bure deck is a space for a couple, a celebrant and a very small group. Adults-only also means no children present at all. Pricing comes from the resort's wedding coordinator rather than the website.
Choose it if the over-water bure deck is the entire point and your party is tiny.
2. The Remote Resort — the most transparent of the lot
Eight villas on a secluded stretch of Vanua Levu coast near Savusavu, all-inclusive, and unusually forthcoming. Its published ceremony locations include the jetty, the beachside firepit deck, the garden, the beach and the Main Pavilion deck, and it will hold a ceremony anywhere on the resort, with the location chosen after you arrive.
What earns it second place is everything else it publishes:
- The Remote Elopement Package at FJD$3,117 — about NZ$2,544 or A$2,044 at the OFX rate on 12 October 2026
- Photographer transfers at FJD$390 return, including lunch and non-alcoholic drinks, if the photographer is not staying
- A rain plan: the covered deck of the Main Pavilion, or move the date with 24 hours' notice
- A practical timing note: most ceremonies run between 3pm and 5pm
- A seasonal boat curfew: transfers run to 5pm from November to March and 4pm from April to October
That last one is the sort of detail that quietly wrecks a schedule, and almost nobody publishes it. The resort also notes the main beach gets no direct afternoon sun, which it treats as an advantage for an afternoon ceremony — and it is.
Choose it if you want a jetty or deck ceremony, a short guest list, and a venue that answers questions before you ask them.
3. Castaway Island, Fiji — the Water's Edge Jetty
Sixty-five thatched bures on a 174-acre Mamanuca island, with three named ceremony settings: Monkey Rock Beach, the Water's Edge Jetty, and the Mokimokiti Cabana.
Castaway is the only resort on this list that publishes wedding prices outright — FJ$5,062.50 for the ceremony package, FJ$11,615.63 for ten guests, FJ$15,440.63 for twenty. The full breakdown, including the detail that the eleventh to twentieth guests cost only FJ$382.50 each, is in Castaway Island Resort wedding packages and costs.
It also has a published wet-weather answer: the Mokimokiti Cabana, which the resort calls a "perfect location regardless of weather conditions." What it does not publish is which setting your package includes, or whether outside vendors are permitted.
Choose it if you want a jetty ceremony at a published price with a real fallback.
4–6. Koro Sun, Savasi and Paradise Taveuni — recorded, not confirmed
All three are in our directory with an over-water ceremony setting, and all three publish very little.
Koro Sun Resort & Rainforest Spa is the strongest of them on paper: 50 rooms across 160 acres running reef to rainforest near Savusavu, with edgewater lagoon bures and villas, and recorded as offering over-water, rainforest, poolside, hilltop and beach settings for weddings of up to around 120 guests. Its own wedding pages name no settings and publish no prices or capacities — the only substantive line is that "our Fijian weddings are not only internationally recognized but also legally binding." Everything else comes from the coordinator.
Savasi Island Resort is a boutique private-island property on a 52-acre island off Savusavu, reached by a private bridge, with villas plus accommodation aboard a vessel. It hosts intimate weddings, vow renewals and elopements, and is recorded with an over-water setting. No capacity or price is published.
Paradise Taveuni is a 16-room dive resort on Taveuni's south coast near the Rainbow Reef, recorded with beach, garden, hilltop and over-water settings. Again, nothing published on capacity or cost.
Treat all three as a phone call, not a brochure. Ask for a photograph of the actual over-water structure, its dimensions, and how many chairs fit on it.
What about Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay?
It has overwater bures, and it is not an over-water ceremony venue — which is a distinction worth drawing clearly.
Its Vonu Beach setting is 3,000 m² of beach with the lagoon and the overwater bures as the backdrop. You stand on sand and look at them. The resort's own figures for that space contradict each other: the prose says it "can be set to seat up to 500 family and friends," while its capacity chart lists 400 for a reception and 300 for a banquet. North Point shows the same pattern — prose says up to 300, chart says 400 reception and 300 banquet. Its summary also states 424 m² of total event space, which cannot be reconciled with a 3,000 m² Vonu Beach and a 1,100 m² pre-function area in the same document.
We publish both figures and the contradiction rather than choosing the flattering one. Momi Bay is an excellent large-wedding venue — Lagoon Beach is published as ideal for up to 80, and packages run FJ$29,999 for 30 guests and a Grand Fijian package "valued at FJD 50,999" for 50. It is simply a lagoon-side venue, not an over-water one. For big numbers see Fiji wedding venues for 100 guests.
What nobody tells you about an over-water ceremony
Six things worth knowing before you fall in love with the photograph:
- Capacity is tiny and nobody publishes it. Decks and jetties take a handful of people. If your list is over about a dozen, the over-water setting becomes the backdrop to a beach ceremony, not the ceremony.
- There is usually no cover. A squall means moving, and only two resorts on this list publish where to.
- Heels and timber decking do not mix, and neither do heels and gaps between boards. Tell your party.
- Wind over open water kills unamplified vows. Ask about a lapel microphone or accept that only the front row hears you.
- Accessibility is a genuine issue. See bringing elderly or less mobile guests to Fiji.
- Afternoon light over water is harsh. The Remote Resort's 3pm–5pm window and its no-direct-afternoon-sun beach exist for a reason; so does golden hour in Fiji, month by month.
The verdict
For the genuine over-water bure deck: Likuliku, and nowhere else in Fiji confirms one.
For a jetty ceremony at a published price: Castaway Island.
For transparency and a real rain plan: The Remote Resort.
For more than a dozen guests: stop looking at over-water settings and look at Fiji's lawn venues or beach venues, and use the lagoon as a backdrop.
Next step: compare the full setting range in Fiji Wedding Venues, check guest numbers against the capacity chart, and if you want someone local holding the pieces together, the directory lists wedding planners including Events Fiji and Rosie Holidays, plus photographers who work the islands such as Lia and Stu Photography and Melonie Ryan on Vanua Levu.
Capacities, settings and prices are as published on 12 October 2026 and change without notice. Confirm directly with each resort. Last reviewed 12 October 2026.
