Nadi is Fiji's arrival point and its busiest resort base. Nadi International Airport handles most of Fiji's international flights, serving 20 airlines and connecting to 15 international cities. Port Denarau Marina — the departure point for the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands — is 20 minutes away. Nadi sits on Viti Levu's dry western side, and almost every Fiji itinerary starts here.
Whether you stay is the real question. Nadi is where you land, but it is also a working town of its own, with a dense cluster of half-day excursions inside 25 minutes that few other Fiji bases can match. For conference organisers and wedding planners, that density is the argument.
Where is Nadi, and how do you get there?
Nadi is on the west coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's main island. Nadi International Airport (NAN) is Fiji's principal gateway, and the figures behind that are substantial: Fiji Airports' 2022 annual report describes Nadi as "the gateway and a hub that has enabled the movement of almost a million passengers per year", with 1.61 million international passenger movements in 2022 and more than 2.1 million in 2019.
Published direct routes into Nadi, per Tourism Fiji:
| Region | Cities with published direct service |
|---|---|
| New Zealand | Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch |
| Australia | Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, Cairns |
| North America | Los Angeles, San Francisco, Vancouver, Honolulu, Dallas |
| Asia | Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo |
| Pacific | Pacific Island nations, not individually itemised |
Carriers serving Fiji alongside Fiji Airways include Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, Air New Zealand, Air Niugini, Solomon Airlines, Aircalin and Nauru Airlines.
Published flight times: Auckland 3 hours, Brisbane 3h15m, Sydney 4h30m, Los Angeles and San Francisco both 10h30m. London, as the longest practical routing, is about 26 hours. Flight times for Wellington, Christchurch, Melbourne, Adelaide, Vancouver, Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo are not published by Tourism Fiji, and Fiji Airways' own route pages were unreachable when we checked in October 2026 — so confirm any route and timing directly with the carrier before you build a programme around it. We could find no published source for a direct Nadi–Seoul service, and would not assert one.
Fiji's second international airport, Nausori, sits 23km northeast of downtown Suva and handles a smaller volume. Domestic flights connect it to Nadi "daily in less than 30 minutes". See can you fly directly into Suva? and Nausori Airport and the Suva access problem.
How long does it take to get anywhere from Nadi?
| From NAN to | Published time | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Denarau Island | 20 minutes (Tourism Fiji, Port Denarau Marina) or 30 minutes (Sheraton Fiji) | Direct drive, 15km. The two figures conflict |
| Port Denarau Marina | 20 minutes | Direct drive |
| Garden of the Sleeping Giant | ~10 minutes north of Nadi; 25 minutes from Denarau | Operator |
| Sabeto hot springs and mud pool | 15–20 minutes northeast | Operator |
| Sleeping Giant Zipline | 20 minutes from Nadi | Operator |
| Lautoka | 25–35 minutes | Scheduled stopping coach times |
| Momi Bay | 45 minutes | Resort |
| Natadola | about 55 minutes | Resort |
| Yanuca, on the Coral Coast | approximately 50 minutes | Resort |
| Sigatoka, on the Coral Coast | 1h 30m | Scheduled stopping coach |
| Pacific Harbour | 2h 55m – 3h 15m | Scheduled stopping coach |
| Suva | 4 hours | Scheduled stopping coach |
Two caveats worth carrying. The Coral Coast, Pacific Harbour and Suva times are Pacific Transport scheduled express services with intermediate stops, not direct charter drives — a private coach will be quicker, but no Fiji operator publishes direct charter times, so these are the defensible published ceilings. And Tourism Fiji does not publish a Nadi-to-Coral Coast drive time at all, nor define where the Coral Coast begins.
What is there to do in Nadi?
More than its reputation as a transit town suggests, and almost all of it inside 25 minutes.

The temple is the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere and a working place of worship — visitors are welcome, with the usual respect: remove shoes, dress modestly, ask before photographing. It also runs a vegetarian restaurant, Saravana Bhavan, on the premises. Fijian protocol and etiquette for visitors covers the broader expectations.
The Garden of the Sleeping Giant is 20 hectares beneath the Sleeping Giant range, with "over a thousand varieties of orchids over the course of a year", jungle walkways and lily ponds. It also hires out as a venue for weddings, proposals and corporate team-building, which makes it one of the few genuine offsite options within 10 minutes of Nadi town.
A caution on Sabeto: at least four websites each claim to be the official operator of the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool, and there may be more than one commercially distinct pool in the valley. The fees above come from one of them. Confirm by phone which operator you are actually being taken to before you commit a group.
For activity programming, Sleeping Giant Zip Line Fiji publishes a 35-acre park with seven ziplines, two waterfalls, over 700m of lines and speeds to 40km/h. Flavours of Fiji Cooking School, VOU Fiji for dance and performance, and Inland Tours Fiji all work out of Nadi. See Fiji's best day trips from Nadi and Denarau.
Where do you stay in Nadi?
Nadi splits into three distinct accommodation zones, and choosing between them is the main decision.
Airport-adjacent hotels suit arrival and departure nights, early flights and short conferences. Tanoa International Hotel (149 rooms, with a 200-theatre Tagimoucia Room), Tokatoka Resort Hotel (108), Novotel Nadi (127), Mercure Nadi (85), Tanoa Skylodge Hotel (55), Fiji Gateway Hotel (95), Capricorn International Hotel (67) and Hexagon International Hotel all sit within minutes of the terminal.
Resort properties around Nadi Bay and Wailoaloa, led by Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay Resort & Spa at 324 rooms — the largest conference capability in the Nadi area, with a pillar-free convention centre. DoubleTree Resort by Hilton Fiji on Sonaisali Island (120 rooms) and Smugglers Cove Beach Resort sit in the same zone.
Denarau Island, 20 minutes away and technically its own precinct rather than Nadi proper, holds the large-resort cluster: Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort (297), Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa, Radisson Blu Resort Fiji Denarau Island (270) and the Denarau Island Convention Centre. Denarau Island: the complete guide covers it properly, and Denarau vs the Coral Coast sets out the trade-off.
What is Nadi's weather like?
Nadi is on Fiji's dry side — Tourism Fiji notes the big islands are "generally wetter in the eastern regions", with the drier western regions featuring dry forest and grassland. The Fiji Meteorological Service defines the wet season as November to April and the dry as May to October.
Recorded actuals at Nadi Airport over the 12 months to August 2026, from the Fiji Met Service monthly summaries:
| Month | Rainfall (mm) | % of 1991–2020 normal | Mean max °C | Mean min °C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sep 2025 | 1.6 | 2% | 29.6 | 19.7 |
| Oct 2025 | 65.1 | 75% | 30.8 | 21.5 |
| Nov 2025 | 219.1 | 173% | 30.4 | 22.3 |
| Dec 2025 | 241.2 | 115% | 30.9 | 22.7 |
| Jan 2026 | 225.3 | 62% | 31.6 | 24.0 |
| Feb 2026 | 199.9 | 60% | 32.2 | 23.7 |
| Mar 2026 | 440.3 | 126% | 31.5 | 23.6 |
| Apr 2026 | 403.6 | 215% | 31.2 | 23.1 |
| May 2026 | 110.9 | 120% | 30.7 | 21.1 |
| Jun 2026 | 40.0 | 70% | 28.4 | 19.0 |
| Jul 2026 | 2.7 | 5% | 27.3 | 17.4 |
| Aug 2026 | 19.6 | 30% | 27.4 | 19.3 |
These are single-year actuals, not averages, and the year was volatile — April ran at 215% of normal and July at 5%. The Fiji Met Service does publish 1991–2020 station normals for Nadi Airport, but only as scanned image files, so the long-run monthly means could not be extracted. Read the shape, not the specific numbers: July and August are reliably dry and a few degrees cooler, March and April carry the most rain, and daytime maxima sit between 27°C and 32°C all year.

Who does Nadi suit?
Short conferences and arrival-night programmes. If delegates fly in, meet for two days and fly out, putting them 10 minutes from the terminal saves four hours of coaching per person across the programme. Crowne Plaza Fiji Nadi Bay is the capacity answer; see conference venues in Nadi.
Island programmes. Port Denarau Marina is 20 minutes from the terminal, and it is the hub for Mamanuca and Yasawa transfers via SeaFiji, Mamanuca Express, Yasawa Adventures and Coral Cats Sailing. If your group is going offshore, staying near Nadi on the first and last nights is simply better logistics.
Pre and post-conference touring. The excursion density inside 25 minutes — temple, orchid garden, hot springs, zipline — is unmatched elsewhere in Fiji. See pre and post-conference tours in Fiji.
It suits weddings less well than the islands or the Coral Coast, for the honest reason that Nadi town is functional rather than scenic. The exception is Garden of the Sleeping Giant and the Denarau resorts a short drive away.
What is nearby?
Lautoka, Fiji's second city, is 25 to 35 minutes north, with First Landing Beach Resort & Villas, Anchorage Beach Resort and Tanoa Waterfront Hotel. The Mamanucas are a 20-minute marina drive plus a boat leg. The Coral Coast starts around 50 minutes south.
Ground transport out of Nadi is the deepest in Fiji: Tourist Transport Fiji, TEWAKA Fiji, Go Local Fiji, Pehicle Tours Fiji and Airport Shuttle Fiji all base there. Published private transfer fares from Nadi airport start at FJ$55 for one to three passengers to nearby properties and FJ$112 to Denarau.
